The story about the tint: that parent is absolutely a legend and probably the best thing that could have happened to that little girl and their family are the entitled jerks. No, they can't just move the tint. That's been established as Emily's special place and if they change that now it'll ruin any progress they made and she'll just hide even better than before. So what's so hard about teaching your kids that just because they see something doesn't mean they're entitled to it. Did they let them stick their hands in all the food and just take whatever just because it was in front of them and they wanted it too?

The story with the kid and the tent I can whole heartedly agree with that. It's the best place for her to be safe. And more over when ow as adopted i had a tent as well. My mother put a combo lock on it so only I could go in. The first time someone intruded into my tent it put me in to a catatonic state. The moment it was moved I ran into the corn field across the street and passed out. I was 4 years old. So I can say if I was the OP I'd have told everyone to leave and that they would never have christmas together again if they couldn't accommodate a child with that situation.

OP in the birthday/wedding story is definitely the jerk. It essentially works out to, "Why won't Becks sacrifice her birthday for my wedding?!" As for Emily's tent, shame on OP's siblings and parents. Even kids have boundaries, and that was a perfect opportunity to teach. Instead, they acted like entitled jerks.

agree with Emily's tent, it is not a place for other kids to enjoy, but a place of comfort for Emily, the reason for the tent in the living room was to ensure that she is safe from hurting herself while feeling safe in her perspective its very clear through OP's words too, the adults and grandparents are blind

Tent story: This couple is trying to prevent their small child from ending up in a dangerous situation. That girl could end up getting stuck and not being found for sometime. And this family is accusing them of using that tent to make their kids upset? *What part of safe-space do they not understand? I'd keep this family from setting foot in the home if they're going to act like the tent should be public. 'Cause "sH@rInG iS cAr1Ng"!* Annie story: This feels like a self-fulfilling prophecy. *Annie won't have someone spill stuff on her out of spite, but she got one in-law (and, possibly, both in-laws) hating her for that stunt.* 😬

I can almost guarantee that the extended family will try to pull the "the world is tough, get over it!" card/line on the tent parents in the future if they are acting that way. Emily sounds like she is in legit need of a safe space and not because she is spoiled or "cant handle the world".

For the "My Fiancée is going a little bit crazy" story: She really isn't a bridezilla, or at least isn't trying to be one. Anxiety really can just suddenly have a death grip over any given situation in a single moment regardless of who you are, especially if you have a history of it and - in the Fiancée's situation - if you have a major life event in the works. It's fully reasonable to not want any easily staining liquids near your wedding dress, but to target one person is kind of a jerk move. But given that one event from the mom's past, anxiety being a bitch, and it being a wedding. I don't fault the Fiancée for reacting this way, even though it is a bit over the top. I also don't fault the mom or dad for feeling slighted, especially the mom. She seems like she just wants to have a nice night with her son and new daughter-in-law. The only person I could say is a bit of a jerk is the OP (the Groom), since he did tell his mom to suck it up, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since he is in between a rock and a hard place.

There is still the fact that they could completely accidentally trip with a drink in their hand and ruin their clothes. So in my opinion I would just ask them to not have any drinks in their hand as they approach.

For the special needs child with the tent: You cannot simply "put the tent in another area" with most individuals that have special needs. Routines are a part of what makes a safe spot a safe spot - that includes locations. This girl is also a foster child. The fact that the other family members do not understand these two things and have empathy is what really upsets me. Their children will not understand for a while, but will usually adapt with the correct prompting and discipline from the parents. The lack of empathy and understanding from the other family is what absolutely floors me. You did the right thing OP. All the family visiting could have been overwhelming as well. This was a tricky situation, but your family's response is what made it a jerk situation.

When the final exam rolled around my Classmates blew through it and I was the last one to finish. As I was getting halfway through the exam I noticed all the correct answers for exam questions on that part of the exam were italicized.

For the 6th story the bride-to-be should have instead proposed a rule of nothing spill-able near her in her wedding dress unless you’re apart of the wedding party and that she makes sure it applies to everyone. It would look jerky of her if she lets her mom come up to her holding a glass of wine or a plate of food but not op’s mom. In my opinion this is a much more logical and understandable rule to make because everyone knows accidents happen and this is the best way to prevent things getting spilled on the dress by the guests. It would have been less hurtful for her to have said “I don’t want to risk anyone spilling anything on my wedding dress and I just want to play it safe and I think this rule is the best option.” It would have made it more tolerable for op’s parents. He’s the jerk for not brainstorming better options with his fiancé before it getting to his parents and helping calm her anxiety.

last story - the bf is a jerk because yes he did not buy the necklace and even on a romantic day aka valentines day he didnt. And like the original poster said, he spent his money on a ps5. Like a ps5 is more important than your partner and he shouldnt get mad that she bought it. Its her money and her life and she would buy her bf something as a present from what I heard. And his peers making fun of him is something I feel he deserves because people that you love and that love you normally give you presents if they can afford it. The bf seems like he can afford a 75 dollar necklace if he can buy a ps5 or games for a ps5. Games for gaming consoles are not cheap and can be more expensive than that necklace. (where i am from)

Anxiety bride story: I disagree. It is not OP’s job to comfort the soon-to-be wife. He told her it is illogical. All he needed to do was tell the soon-to-be wife that he will not enforce that request and for her too get over it. Anxiety issues are for the person to work on. It does not matter if she can see it as illogical unless she wants to work through it. As such both the OP is the jerk for enabling this behavior and putting his parents second and the soon-to-be wife is a jerk for forcing her problems on other people.

Ok the bride one started off ok but by the end ….. jerkish lol 😂 why should the husband “ have to give his ticket to you ?” This woman should have the right to spend her own birthday doing what she wants then the wedding stuff …. Also the tent one that’s so not cool on the op , kids wirh learning difficulties such as autism for example need that safe /familiar place to chill and re charge , her not having that would of caused waaaay more “issues “ than her having it , the family should of been way more considerate towards that , not a jerk the family are jerks The necklace story , ok I get what she was saying but “you had a year to get me it “ that’s super entitled , yeah he could of been nice and listened to you and got you it but he isn’t “obligated “ to buy something expensive you like just cos you said you wanted it , would be like if he said “I want this ps5 , can you get me it ? “ so buying it yourself was the better option …..

I'm glad the original poster that I love that abusive relationship and she wasn't scared of her ex and on top of that you know I'm glad that she's one of those people that doesn't take crap from anybody from what I can tell so far but at the same time her story is the reason why I don't agree with people that tried to defend age-gap relationships as if it's something that can be perfectly compared to a normal healthy relationship with somebody that's mature as you are or you girl maturely withbecause the thing about people in age-gap relationships is one spouse is always trying to be the one in control and when that one person wants to be in control they're going to turn abusive now don't get me wrong I understand there or some age-gap relationships that can work to the point of having an amazing marriage and it has been nothing before but at the same time there's just too many signs that mows age-gap relationships always end in abuse and it's kind of sad because the person who's always younger than their husband or wife tries to defend themselves in the idea of thinking this is the type of relationship they need to prove to everybody is still going to be a healthy thing even though they're willing to take the blunt end of just being abused for it which I don't understand why you would put yourself through it but you know people have to learn the hard way eventually I hate the kind of say it the way the original poster did as well and not only that most of the time the person you're speaking do that is way older than you is always either a predator or a manipulator and an abuser and they'll always promised you something that they say they're going to give you but they just end up wasting your time then you just feel trapped in a relationship that's just so super toxic and sadly you know the person in that relationship knows it but they're so scared to admit it to themselves because they've already tried doing the whole entire I'll prove to you that we're in a healthy relationship where the healthy marriage it's no different than people that are physically and sexually being abused like I said before I'm just glad the original poster got out of her situation I'm glad she realized that she's better than that and she found somebody that loves and treats her the way she wants

It kinda sounds like the Junior Karen's plan for the future is to marry a providing man (preferably one with wealth). It may not be openly obvious but it must be impossible to be this clueless about reality and still think they have a shot at being a big independent person.

Not much but early stage of one. Only she sounds less of a B*** to be one too. Since an early stage karen is usually called "Becky". Becky is your typically self centered egocentric queen bee b*tch who think everything revolves around her, usually encourage by her parent's wealth or social status.

To the last story involving the necklace (and to some extent, the anxious bride, and even to the special child): Not any jerks in the op-side at the least, but some of them in the stories seem odd... i've learned people will take small things the wrong way. A small singular phrase, or action and you or a person of a topic could be damned. (I know, because aspergers... argh.) No jerks as far as i can think, maybe, but one has to be hyper-diligent to not get into those messes ever... but if you have to be hyper-diligent to avoid those incidents, then you'd not be enjoying your lives at these points. Far as i can say, saying 'suck it up' doesn't help, though it's hard not to say it in times of stress, but still we all need to at some point take step back, try to talk at length about these issues when we get into them... order some drinks, tea, coffee, whatever they prefer, and just chat at length with those that are having an issue with you, or you having issues with them. Try to meet a middle ground about the silliness of the incidents, and that we all have irrational things we do as humans, or things we overlook in the face of big events. If they can understand and meet in the middle and not be hurt, fine... but if not able to do the former, or worse, they actually get mad, then... well... nothing can be done but to shrug and let them stew it over. Next time though, you may see similar incidents, or exact same incidents, and can use the past experience to plot around it. Doesn't mean another issue won't work it's way in, or that the new solution will fail for the existing problem, but still the point is you tried on your end. Not everyone or everything can be accommodated for, and sometimes toes will be stomped on, unknowingly or not. It doesn't mean we should say "F it" and let it happen over and over, but the point is, trying counts. You keep trying to do the right things, while these people need to accept that they were unable to be accommodated for, and they just should forgive and live and let live.

For story #6, I feel like the op is a jerk in a way. He could've come up with a compromise, like his mother could have a specific cup that has a lid so that the fiance could at least feel a little bit better. But just telling your parents, who are going above and beyond for you and your fiance, to suck it up and deal with it when you can be adult enough to come up with a compromise that helps everybody, is just not right.
