Hi! I just came across your channel today (and subscribed), when I did some research on cleaning motivation when you're in pain. I've had CRPS (Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome) since having a nerve block before rotator cuff repair surgery, in 2020. There are days I cannot function. When I have a good day I try and do as much as I can to catch up on my To Do list. Thankfully my hubby helps me a lot. So blessed to have found your channel.

Love the idea of a Master Dinner list. I really need to write down all our favorites in one place 👍

Like your no fuss binder. I used to have one when I was into the FLYlady method in the late 90's. And yes, I had modified it to fit my ways of thinking and doing thngs as well. ie. I never wear shoes in my home so the lace-up shoes she suggested didn't apply to me and I was just as motivated to do the chores. Fast forward to today, it is time for me to create another binder as we are moving into a home that is a bit different than before and I think a home management binder would be a great way to help me get organized and keeping the house clean till it becomes second nature. SO your video is a perfect timing one to watch. Thank you for sharing. :)

Just started my binder this week with five sections so far. BEST way to keep like items together for projects, TO-DO LISTS, lists, and other task items that otherwise... I lose!! 😏

Funny, I choose monday, tuesday and friday the same: laundry, errands and cleaning. :) I don't want to deal with cleaning and laundry on the weekend but want a clean house and the earlier I tackle the errands, the earlier in the week I feel acomplished. I do have a binder but it is more like a file with tips tricks and older schedules/ está of doing. On a daily basis I try to use a sheet of paper with the weekly housekeeping schedule. When I need to Change, I go check the binder for inspiration

I am glad I found your channel! I have an amazing husband and a not-so-helpful 16 year old stepson who has never respected me in the 7 years his dad and i have been together. Any advice on how to help me include him in activities as well as chores? Sadly we just "live" together, only seeing another at dinner, but he never talks to me or anything. He's his mama's boy and that's fine, I'm just struggling with how to do anything with him or have him do anything at all, in general.... You said you had teenage boys so I wanted to ask. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears! And thanks for the videos, I love the way you present yourself. **Do you have a walk-around your house video? Hi Sarah! So glad you're here! And thank you for your kind words. I don't currently have a house tour video, but I really should make one someday, as I've had a few requests for that. I think it's so wonderful that you're trying to invest in your stepson. Kids really need close relationships with their parents, especially in the teen years. Sally Clarkson's books have been so encouraging to me in every aspect of motherhood, and her four children are all adults now (and still close to their parents). One thing that I've seen through the years is that kids really want parents to be interested in them as a person, just the way they are, no strings attached. They want someone who will listen when they talk, be interested, and invest in the relationship. I would start by trying to build a relationship with him before anything else. One-on-one time with kids is so valuable. For a teenage boy, maybe you could start by taking him out to eat (or make his favorite meal or snack) and just try to make some happy memories together, as you learn more about what's in his heart and mind. Or maybe at dinner you could use some conversation starters to help keep the conversation going. I have some ideas here: www.artfulhomemaking.com/family-meal-time-conversation-starters/ Maybe try having a family game or movie night (with special snacks or drinks) just to build some positive memories? Anything you can do to show interest in him, love on him, or serve him will go far in building the relationship.

How's it going? I'd give him small chores, simple ones he can get done in within 10 mins and or ask him to help you. I'm hoping he's not a total jerk and he'll actually say yes. He can't read your mind, so you'll have to tell him what you expect and what to do. But just remember to be fair and if he really struggles with something, find something else.

I’m going to hold a different viewpoint and opinion than what the other ladies have posted, first thing, re-read your post. “My husband is amazing” “my stepson is horrible” reality is, children (people in general) know and can perceive you. I would not want to respect you either because I’d know you’re not exactly fond of me. Even if you went in all in in the beginning, he might’ve been turned completely off as you were a new person imposing on what he knew as normal. I think it’s important to do some self reflection to see yourself and where you or your husband could be contributing to an underlying problem, then use the 5 Love Languages quiz. Allow your husband to lead it but you can be present IF the child is open to you being there. he can ask him the questions without telling him what it is he’s doing or what his love language is then secretly begin implement examples of those things towards him and see if things are different.

I'm seriously thinking about getting one. I wonder if your homemaking binder has changed in the meantime? Since this vid is 2 years old.

Mine is basically the same. I've only changed a few things like more menu planning forms, some different cleaning lists, and updated routines. But my tabs are the same!

The biggest downside for me is that I hate routine. I don't like being 'scheduled in' even though at the same time I like to have things in order.. I like having what I need to do in control, having a schedule to go by would make me more productive.. however at the same time if I wasn't able to have some kind flexibility to my schedule, for example Wed is scheduled for groceries but we are already out of food on Monday, then I'll be ruining my schedule. Or, I feel like doing arts and crafts on Friday when I had it scheduled on Saturday, and not feel like doing it when Saturday arrives.. you know what I mean? I tend to listen to my emotions, what I want to do, feel like doing, rather than forcing myself to do chores on set days.. wish I knew myself better to know what's best :/

Yes, I can relate! I like to make schedules, but I don't always follow them after I make them (and sometimes it's not possible). :) One thing that works when I'm not willing or able to do the schedule as written, is to just keep a simple notebook to-do list. I just get a small wire-bound notebook from the dollar store and turn to a blank page. The night before, I do a brain dump of everything I would like to do the following day. The next morning, I do as much as possible on my list, and then transfer what didn't get done to a new page for the following day. And I keep doing this for each day. Or, sometimes I'll write down a list of things that need to be done and then transfer them to my planner. I keep the list handy and work on the list whenever I have a chance. It's amazing how useful it is to just use a simple spiral-bound notebook! Just turn to a new page for each new day, and write down all you'd like to accomplish. It's not a perfect system, but it allows me to get more done than I would have otherwise. And then it's not a rigid schedule, it's more of a suggested list. Not sure if this is helpful, but it works for me when I'm unable to stick to the schedule.
