I’ve had sisterlocks for about three years. After noticing a bald spot and thinning throughout the top of my head, as well as some combined locs (probably because of thinning), I asked my loctician, who said that there was some thinning but she didn’t think it was bad. I compared photos from when I had my establishment and it is pretty bad. I went to see a dermatologist who said that she thinks it’s female pattern baldness. She took bloodwork to rule out other causes and I’m waiting for that to come back. But she also said that for me, sisterlocks is the worst possible style because the pulling and styling right next to the scalp will only make the problem worse. So now I’m contemplating cutting off my locs, which are well past my shoulders. I’m okay getting rid of them if the trade off is not being bald in the top of my head, but am curious about your thoughts, especially since you’re suffering from the same thing. Thanks!!

I’m so glade I didn’t start my locks with SL, it was too expensive.

Thank you for this. I'm from the UK. I had a consultation in August and was due to have microlocks last week, but my loctician said she couldn't do it because my hair had started thinning and she didn't know the cause. She gave me a refund and recommended a trichologis. I'm gutted because my hair is receding and I'm tired of scarves and wigs, but I know that she's right, so I'll book an appointment.

@@WhyCee74 I went to Fulham Scalp and Hair Clinic. They’re expensive, but good. In the end my issue turned out to be medical, so I’m under hospital treatment.

I have hair loss in the same area on the side it's then an in the top but the back is thick I also use rogain 2times a day an wash out an start over so with sister locks can I wash it every day because I use to gain an it have to be washed out

HI Renee! I am currently editing that video AS WE SPEAK! LOL!! You should see it post on Saturday actually. Well actually the video doesn't focus on the sisterlocks but it outlines my hair loss to healthy hair journey and includes sisterlocks. In a nutshell, I made proper diet and exercise changes. Me too... Check your iron level. Low iron plays a big part , definitely if you have an low immune system

How do you treat if you already have locs

Hello! You can certainly still treat hair loss even with locs, but its best to first determine what type of hair loss you have -- or whats the cause. There are countless causes of hair loss -- hormonal, genetic, diet changes, nutritional deficiencies, medication side effects, etc. Its best to consult with a dermatologist or a trichologist to help you to determine the root cause. Typically treatment consist of both internal and external (or topical via products) to get the best results.

Hi Karen, I wish I had seen this before I cut off my 27 1/2 inch , 17 year old Sisterlocks. I know now that I have/had generic-female pattern hair loss hair loss. I camouflaged for a while until I could no longer get away with it. I cried😔😢. I wish I could find a tricologist in the Los Angeles area. So far the ones I’ve found are in the New York area.
