The amazing thing is, on the documentary they say that Randy didn't want to perform this song live, because it is so high pitched and difficult... the rest of the band encouraged it 'to the limit'... then he did it... and this is the result, on the video you can see the other members of the band looking happy and the "told you" look through the song... masterpiece

True story: I was living in the D.C. area in 1971 when I turned 21. A group of my friends took me out to a club on US 1 in Northern Virginia to celebrate. There was a small stage area and a banner hung above it with the words "Welcome to the Eagles--direct from L.A." We had never heard of the Eagles then--they hadn't yet released an album. Anyway, as we sat there drinking pitchers of beer and my friends toasting me, the Eagles noticed and asked if it was someone's birthday. Everyone pointed at me, and then they sang Happy Birthday to me. Of course, at the time it didn't mean a lot that a band in a seedy club out on HWY 1 would sing happy birthday to someone. That changed when they made it big and I realized it was the same Eagles. It's quite a memory... And this song is one of my favorites.

Not true. Don Felder wrote Victim of Love and was supposed to sing it. Their manager invited him out to a dinner to discuss buisness and Henley recorded the vocals in the studio behind his back. Of course, once Felder heard it, he knew there was no way he could top it, so he let it slide, which is probably what Henley banked on.

For those who are less familiar with the Eagles story this song was their first #1 and a huge fan favorite. Randy Meisner, bass/lead vocal, was always nervous to sing this song, particularly that high note at the end. He had to constantly be heavily persuaded by the other members to do the song every show. In this clip right after he perfectly executes that high note you can see Glenn Frey at the piano looking at him and smiling and signaling to Randy, "way to go man! You nailed it!" while the crowd is cheering. This entire concert is gold.

I saw them on their fair well tour like 25 yrs ago but this time they probably mean it. Great band in the early days maybe even one of the best. After Hotel California they went way too poppy and lost most of the folksy harmonies that made them great.

The beauty of the Eagles was their diversity of musical talent. They always picked the right singer for the song in hand. It’s pretty rare to have more than one talented singer in a band. To have 4-6 singers (depending on the lineup at any particular time) made them truly special.

I agree---for harmony, "Seven Bridges Road" will absolutely blow your mind. For some great lyrics (Jackson Browne helped Glenn Frey finish them) check out "Take It Easy"....the Eagles rabbit hole runs deep, and their Greatest Hits CDs are among the best selling of all time for that reason---packed with hit after hit. I envy your getting to discover these songs for the first time---I loved growing up hearing them for the first time on the radio, so much so we kept a tape recorder loaded and ready to record them off the radio so we could hear them whenever we wanted (I was too young to work to buy the cassettes myself yet)...

All you need to know about The Eagles. They were angry at each other during what would be their last concert for 1979. They broke up. During the 80's, all of their songs would still be played on the radio and got lots of attention, keeping the band's popularity extremely high. They did a reunion tour in 1994 for their new album, "Hell freezes over", and were together ever since. That is how good they are.

I saw the Eagles the first time in 1973 when I was 13 and as great as the music was, what really blew me away is their vocals were so perfect. Then I saw them on every tour until they broke up in 1980, and they always sounded so much better live than they did on their albums, and the albums were phenomenal. They also always had a “clean” sound in concert: extremely loud but everything was crystal clear.

Eagles started as more of a country-rock band but developed a harder edge as they matured and guitarists Don Felder and Joe Walsh joined the band. But, they incorporated funk, rhythm and blues, disco in some of their tunes. “One of These Nights” has a disco backbeat, but a killer rock solo by Felder and a great vocal by Henley. ‘Lyin’ Eyes “ is a terrific country ballad sung by Glenn Frey. “New Kid in Town” another country-tinged ballad about fleeting fame by Frey. “Victim of Love” by Henley is their hardest material. ‘Best of My Love” by Henley is a bitter-sweet No. 1 ballad from 1975. The band has a deep well of hits. They aren’t the Beatles, but in terms of hits, talent, and sales, they are as close a any American band came.
