The legendary Linda does a great job on this Buddy Holly original. Holly was a transcendent figure in early rock and roll. Died in a plane crash at an unimaginably young age. The Beatles name comes from a nod to Holly's group The Crickets. "American Pie" by Don Mclean is a momenti mori to his death, "The Day the Music Died." Please react to Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away." Buddy played this Bo Diddley influenced song to an all black audience at the famous Apollo Theater in Harlem. More so even than Elvis, he melded black music, rockabilly, and country swing into a potent, energetic mix.

Hadn't seen those mentioned just yet, so I wanted to throw them in for consideration. If you want to hear her somewhat operatic side, watch her portray Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance w/Kevin Kline and Angela Lansbury. "Poor Wandering One", if you just want to find the clip on KZread for a sample. She's actually really good friends with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris, with whom a trio was formed to create some pretty spectacular songs, too. Btw...to answer your question- Dolly did write "I Will Always Love You" and sung it first.😉

This was written and first recorded by Buddy Holley. It is RnR history. Linda covered several of his songs. Buddy was an inspiration to our generation. When will I be Loved is an Everly Bros song she did and in this concert. I saw this tour in Houston. I saw her 4 times. When she did a run at the end of Love has No Pride she gave me goosebumps and on few more too. The guy singing next to the guitar player is Peter Asher. He was in the British duo Peter and Gordon. Paul McCartney wrote a couple of songs for them. Helps when your sister is dating a Beatle. They had several hits. He became her producer. His sister was a famous Brit actress with a lot of musical talent as well. Their mother was a Music professor. Paul picked up a ton knowledge.

Remember at the first of 'American Pie'? Bad news on doorstep, cried about widowed bride, the day Music died. It's about Buddy Holly, the writer of this song.

I didn't know that. Thank you!
Linda was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2012 and can no longer sing/perform. She had a successful career starting in the 60s. She is currently 77. Check out When Will I Be Loved and Different Drum. It's So Easy originally by Buddy Holly who was one of the souls lost the day the music died!

Yes.
The greatest most versatile female vocalist of her generation.
I can't say enough about this beautiful singer. I have all of many vinyl record albums in my record collection. I'm 76 yrs young and never get tired of listening to her music. I love our baby boomer music from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and even the 90s. I love music!!!❤❤❤
One of the most powerful voices of all time. She didn't overuse it like singers today
Linda Ronstadt. La Charreda! Blow you away.
No one in US music history has had hits across so many genres as Linda. To this day, still top selling non English album in US history. Queen of rock, county, American standards, opera, ballads, Spanish, R&B…
Linda Rondstat - The Tracks of My Tears & Long, Long Time. The Eagles were her backup band until she told them they were too good to just be her backup and they needed to become their own group.
Willie Nelson once said, "There are two types of men in the world: those that love Linda Ronstadt, and those that never heard of her."
Linda chose songs from all genres. She was considered Rock/Pop in her earlier days. Later she was considered more country. Honestly her voice and song choices defied labels.
Linda Ronstadt is one of the pioneers of Country Rock.
Four of the founding members of the Eagles were Linda's band at one point.
Silver threads and golden needles is also a great song by Linda Ronstadt, she has so many great songs.

Oh wow. Haven't thought of that one in awhile. Time to pull out the album again - lol
Linda sings everything, pop, rock, country, opera and even Spanish. One of all time female singers
This is a Buddy Holly cover - Linda was considered Rock but her talent transcends labeling!!! She sang what she wanted!!! Her Spanish songs will blow you away!!! OMG - who knew!!! Her cover off ""Love Has No Pride"" is an absolutel tear-jerker!!!!!! so many great songs by her!!!!
Yes, Dolly wrote, "I will always love you. It was a huge hit for Dolly as well. Dolly is a very talented singer/songwriter. Actress too. A genuinely nice person. She thanked Whitney for singing it. They both won an award for the song. It's soft rock.

When Whitney got cocky and told Dolly her she took the song and made it her own and did it better, Dolly pulled her support and possibly her royalties 😂
Heatwave, I Can't Let Go, When Will I Be Loved, and Get Closer are all rockers.
Linda not only could sing anything. She did sing everything. An Emmy, a Tony,, a share of a Hollywood Star, and at least 9 Grammys. Just missing the Oscar for the EGOT. I'd suggest hearing her sing WILLING
Linda's lead guitarist on this is Waddy Wachtel, who most famously created the Edge of Seventeen groove for Stevie Nicks and that was sampled by Beyonce for Bootylicious.
@richschuster1097

Waddy is even in Stevie’s live video that BP reviewed. Waddy is all over 70s rock
Linda has to be my all time favourite female vocalist… 💯
Buddy Holly's music will live forever 🙌🏼 🔥 🎸
Linda was known as the "queen of remakes" and putting her own unique stamp on the songs
Imagine the pressure of being a backup singer for Linda...and lots and lots of female vocalists have idolized Linda.
Linda’s cover of Little Feat’s “Willin” is absolute 🔥🔥🔥

100% absolutely!!!
you know she's got it when you listen to the whole song to listen to that last note!
Linda is a muti award winning artist. She has done a myriad of styles and there is a huge rabbit hole to go down. Sadly for Linda, a degenerative illness has made her unable to sing any longer; but she has given the world a huge catalogue of music to enjoy.
Ah. You found her biggest hit. Now do When will I be Loved, her other biggest hit. Poor Poor Pitiful Me is good too as is her cover of the Stones' Tumbling Dice. She's her own genre
Dude....Linda has so much great music. If you dig deep, you better leave a trail so you can find your way back out.
Love the little growl in her voice when she's singing a few of the bars in the beginning. I think it's really sexy when a woman growls a little in their singing.
I was a teenager in the’70s and had a MAD crush on Linda… she’s never left my spank bank!
Linda’s musical diversity is immense. She probably could’ve been a bigger star if she stayed with pop music, but she couldn’t stop trying new things. The world of music is better for it. 😊

This is from a concert in Atlanta, I believe in 1977. Another song from this concert is Desperado now that will blow you away!!
My favorite of hers is « You’re no good »
This is rock and roll all the way!!! But… Linda can sing anything including opera. All genres loved singing with Linda. Old show tunes, everything, Mariachi her father was Mexican and German. You will be blown away with her Mariachi Opera !!!! Songs from her Father. Her whole family was Musical.
The incredible Waddy Wachtell on lead guitar! Linda always had killer bands! And she inspired every female artist that came up behind her! Peace
Linda Ronstadt was influence from country singer Hank Williams, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. Ronstadt says, "There's no one in Maria Callas league.(the most influential opera singer) Ronstadt did a great cover of The Everly Brothers "When Will I Be Loved"
More Linda please!
I had such a thing for Linda as a teenager. She does a great cover of the Martha and the Vandellas hit "HeatWave". it's upbeat too!
Well now you're obligated to check out a couple of her other hits... Up tempo, rockin' out - "Back In The U.S.A." Softer and will make you fall in love with her - "Ooh Baby Baby" Others not to miss... * Tracks Of My Tears * When Will I Be Loved * You're No Good Go for it! You KNOW you wanna do it!
The wild haired guitar player, Waddy Wachtel, also co wrote Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London”. Linda also covered a Warren Zevon tune “Poor Poor Pitiful Me”. My personal favorite performance of Linda’s is her cover of The Hollies’ (who you just reacted to) “I Can’t Let Go”. Her voice is totally amazing. 💜

Poor, poor pitiful me was one of her greatest hits 🎉
You'll also love her feisty song "You're No Good". I highly recommend her duet with Aaron Neville (I Don't Know Much), as well. Btw...to answer your question- Dolly did write "I Will Always Love You" and sung it first.😉
It's so easy to fall in love with Linda Ronstadt in so many ways
You really should react to one of her Spanish language recordings. She released the album Canciones de mi Padre in 1987 to celebrate her Mexican heritage.

My favorite songs of Linda Ronstadt are "The Shoop Shoop Song" with the Muppets and "Silver Threads and Golden Needles." Dolly wrote "I Will Always Love You" as a goodby to Porter Wagner when she left his show to become a solo artist.
Linda WAS singing. One of the very best.
Linda Rocks!❤️✌🏻🎶
Her and Janis Joplin are great! Linda’s voice is amazing. She’s rock.
Back in the day, I had 3 Ronstadt albums and I loved them all.
It's So Easy to listen and watch Linda sing anything. One of the absolute best ever!
Still one of the best voices I have ever heard. You should listen to her sing her father’s favorite songs. It won her another Grammy.
She was played on pop rock radio stations back then but not on country stations but she did all kinds of music latter on.
Linda is a legend. Her backing band became THE EAGLES 🦅! Great reaction. Really getting to enjoy your style! Seeing you enjoy the songs from my youth is fantastic!
Loved her as a young boy because of this song 😂🤘🤘
More Ronstadt!
It is fun viewing your commentary , love that you really like these old songs . These musicians and singers were/are so very talented .
Speaking of Dolly Parton, she did a duet with her called I Will Never Marry. Its a beautiful song and their voices pair well together. Also, if you like the faster paced country from this era, check out the song Queen of Hearts by Juice Newton.
Linda's version of 'I Will Always Love You' will always be my favorite, hands down. Also, I loved how Don Henley said that Eagles 1973 'Desperado' did not become a hit for them till Linda released her version that same year. Linda is the greatest cover artist of all time imo👏
Linda is a legend, who has an incredible voice , if you want to be totally blown away check her out singing a spanish song called LA CHARREADA you better buckle up first!!!
in the 70s and 80s everyone wanted to look like her - all of her music is stunning - all genres
Linda Ronstadt did a duet with James Ingram that is so beautiful. I loved James Ingram. The song is ‘Somewhere Out There”. Please give it a listen. James also did a duet with Patti Austin. His album is “The Very Best Songs of James Ingram”. And Patti La Belle sang with Michael McDonald on”On My Own”. Have you ever listened to Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack on “If Ever You Are In My Arms Again.” James Ingram died from brain cancer but his music is just as fantastic today as it was the day he wrote it. My favorite of his songs is “I Don’t Have the Heart”. I love these people! And Percy Sledge (Sitting On the Dock of the Bay). Barry White and Luther Van Dross. You get the idea 🎼🎤❤️
I’ve been in love with Linda since the 70’s and her first album. Not only a great voice, but so sexy too!
Linda is the Queen of Music, she was killer covering this Buddy Holley classic!
BP you still need to listen to Linda Ronstadt singing the duet with Aaron Neville called "All my life" and Linda singing "La Cigarra" (live 1987) Linda Ronstadt and Mariachi Vargas - La Charreada. (live 1989).
Linda Ronstadt was great at whatever she decided to do. She had a lot of original hits, but she also did a lot of covers that became hits for her. This song was one of Buddy Holly's original hits (also a great version). If you liked her style here you should check out another cover song that became a big hit for her called "Heat Wave.' This was an original Motown hit for Martha and the Vandellas. By the way, this song is considered Rock & Roll. You will probably like some of her softer ballad type songs like "Long, Long Time", "Colorado", or her incredible version of "Love Has No Pride!"
BP this lady is the GOAT for female singers in my lifetime. This is a cover of an early rock n roll hit by Buddy Holly. She was considered the queen of female rock singers in the 1970’s Listen to classics like “You’re No Good” “When Will I Be Loved” she went on in the 80’ to prove she could sing country (alone or in the Trio with Dolly and Emmylou), Opera (Pirates of Penzance on Broadway and The Movie) Mariachi Mexican Music (React to La Charreada or La Cigarra) and Big Band Great American Song Book (three albums with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra (try “For Sentimental Reasons” or “When You Wish Upon a Star). Or react to her amazing voice in a classic duet with the late James Ingram “Somewhere Out There”.
Long Long Time is beautiful
She does everything. An amazing all around artist.
Before Linda was Buddy Holly and the Crickets. This is a cover. Buddy Holly was from Lubbock, TX and had some rockabilly. He was one of the original rock n roll guys in the 50's. Something else about Linda Ronstadt - she had some legs, my friend. As a young teenager, she was one of my first celebrity crushes. Along with Stevie Nicks and Daisey Duke. And Kate Jackson. Oh, and Suzanne Summers.
You might want to consider listening to Different Drum. It’s an earlier song of Linda’s. It’s a great song
Most underrated vocalist ever. You need to listen to her true clear vocals on quality recordings with Hi Fi quality equipment.
There was a tribute to her a few years ago along with Emmy Lou Harris, Joni Mitchell and Dolly Parton. Linda has MS and can no longer walk or perform. She’s a great story. You can find the special here on KZread.

This whole concert was great need to do TUMBLING DICE and HEAT WAVE LIVE FROM THIS CONCERT AS THE GIRL CAN ROCK TOO!!
One of the great voices in the history of rock/pop. Also has a superb mariachi album.
One of my top 5 female vocalits of all time. Thank you. 😊
"The Sweetest Gift" is an epic one and won't be disappointing 🤗😎
This song was rock,
❤❤❤ congratulations on your brand new baby. Hope 🙏 everything and everyone is amazing. ❤❤❤
This song was originally written by Buddy Holly. I think she covered a couple of his songs over her career. She's classically trained and also sings opera. Check out her live performances of the Spanish songs she does! Incredible! Also, her greatest album, Cry Like A Rainstorm! Beautiful ❤️
Linda Ronstadt is America's sweetheart! One of the best! Check out her Spanish stuff, as well.
Linda is 🔥🔥🔥. Love this song...
The Southwestern borderlands in the 60’s and 70’s was a place where musical genres crisscross with ease. With small ranching towns the local community center was often the Honky Tonk Bar. To give patrons on a Friday night a great time local bands would have to be able to play everything from Buck Owens/Tina Turner/Linda Ronstadt/CCR/Freddy Fender/Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass/Rolling Stones/etc. One of the bands that carries that same sound is Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. To give you an idea of how the sound has developed check out Jack vs Jose or Nada Vegas 2016.
I haven't noticed but has anyone not told you to react to the midnight special version of her singing You're no Good? That is a funky song and I love that song! I have young onset Parkinson's and I have always loved Linda Ronstadt and I feel her pain now. I've had it for 13 years but I'm still independent. I love your channel and you make me smile even on days when I don't want to. Thank you so much Pegasus!
At the beginning the eagles were her backup band and she helped them get started
She's in my top 3 female singers. It's not country, pure pop rock.
Hurts So Bad, You’re No Good, Heatwave, Ooh Baby Baby among many great songs by Linda. Her covers are off the charts!
Her 'Greatest Hits Vol. 2' is the best compilation of songs for my taste. I have had to replace it several times over the years, but I do love me some Linda 😊 She is definitely a genre bender. I also believe that her early work with some guys who went on to start the Eagles says a lot in and of itself since they are one of the most prolific bands of all time 🎉
Every single song Linda Rondstadt sings is incredible!
Rockabilly is a pretty good call. This song was written by Buddy Holly who was from Texas and certainly one of the key figures in the genre
