I'd love to know more about your language studies! I'm really wanting to learn spanish (and being in San Antonio and attending UTSA next month is the perfect time!) so I'd love to know how you're going about it and what advice you have! I took 4 years WAAAAAY back in high school and my trip to Spain in May showed me I still have some basics... but I want to become more proficient.

My goal is to study one hour a day. I typically call it my “happy hour” which means as soon as I’m done with work. (Trying to have a routine is key). My best resource is my iTalki tutor, I went through a lot to find her but she is kind and patient and creates activities for me based on my interests (happy to refer her to you too!) that workbook I use is great, KZread videos for concepts/convos, Duolingo podcast and the Toucan browser extension that changes words on the internet to Spanish

Yay! Sazed!!! He is my absolute favorite! I agree with you on so much of this... it is slower in the beginning, but I do think that's how a lot of fantasy books are. You have to learn the world and characters. Vin also irritated me at some points (you nailed it with mentioning how she went from being super skeptical to super accepting. I was like "what?!") Excited to hear your thoughts on the next two books! Also, I'd suggest looking up fan art for some of the creatures... it's pretty crazy!

Next 2 will be happening!! Probably in August.. I ended up liking Vin in the end but she definitely was a challenge. Great tip on the character fan art!! I guess my Flubber comparison doesn’t cut it 😂

I’ve been looking forward to this one! This was so much fun! Mistborn TFE is a book I often recommend to people interested in getting into adult fantasy. I read it when it was pretty new, and long before Sando was the towering figure in the genre he is now. I’m not the biggest Michael Kramer fan in the world, but I do enjoy his narration of this series. I particularly like his portrayal of Sazed, my favorite character in the story. Don’t be too worried about confusion with the magic system. He has slowly been parcelling it out to us over now 6 books. My favorite part of allomancy is the pushing and pull on emotions to soothe or enflame them.

Well you always nail the recommendations so I’m not surprised you would pick another winner! That’s good he covers more Of the magic, he did a great job repeating it but it got kind of complex at the end with the other classifications.. I would totally rock that emotion soothing / Enflaming thing if I were Mistborn.

the mistborn series really got me into the fantasy genre so it really holds a special place in my heart

Wonderful vlog! I hope you’re feeling better! Rain in your part of the country is a godsend in July. Loved seeing your reactions to The Final Empire twists, and I forgot to tell you that Sanderson always has his hard magic system charted at the ends of his books. I remember that throwing me off when I got to the end of the Warbreaker audiobook-it was like: what I’m going to do with this info now? 😂 Sanderson’s fantasy is definitely more modern in setting and style. He doesn’t write dragon, wizard, elf type of stories, but he is very good at plot twists! I’m excited to hear your thoughts as you continue!

lol yes the little glossary would have been helpful to know about 😂 I love his emphasis on plot rather than creatures, it is easy for me to grasp! I am a little sad about one of the twists.. I kind of predicted it but doesn’t mean I liked it 😭

Brandon Sanderson is definitely an author I find quite intimidating. Because of how many books he's written and how thick they all are. However, having read a few of his books now, I can see that his writing is definitely not intimidating. It's very easy in a way, even if the plot is a bit complicated at times 😂😂

@@JAKandtheBookStack That end of the book can’t put it down thing is one of the things Sanderson is known for. If you enjoy the Mistborn books I will recommend Elantris and Emperor’s Soul as a good next place to go personally I think Emperor’s Soul might be one of his best works.
