Mistborn is amazing how have I not read this | SJM Girlie reads Brandon Sanderson The Final Empire

As a romantasy reader, I'll be honest...I didn't know if a fantasy book where romance takes a baaack seat would draw me in the same way. But I saw Brandon Sanderson's Secret Project announcement, and saw his fandom go absolutely feral...and I knew I wanted to join in. So, I started out with Mistborn, and I was floored. I loved this book - the magic system is so unique, and the worldbuilding is incredibly rich.
"Mistborn: The Final Empire" by Brandon Sanderson is set in a bleak world ruled by the revered Lord Ruler. Our FMC, Vin, is a street-smart orphan with Mistborn abilities, which means she's capable of burning metals internally to unleash specific powers. Recruited by a rebellion leader named Kelsier, Vin joins a crew set on overthrowing the Lord Ruler's oppressive regime. She ends up going undercover amongst the nobility...and begins having feelings for a nobleman's son.

Reading Sanderson after SJM is like being thrown into the deep end with weights on after a day learning how to swim… in the kiddy pool.

might be just me but I found Mistborn very accessible, everything is spelled out for you, magic system is simple and logical, there's no flowery prose or archaic language. If you want to feel like you're drowning I recommend checking out Malazan Book of the fallen

If you liked this first one, the next 2 will blow your mind since it shows how well planned the entire story is from the beginning. I want to mention one thing that is not a spoiler but is important to keep in mind. At one point Kelsier talks to a character named Hoid who seems unimportant, but Hoid is an important character in the Cosmere (which you will learn what is the Cosmere later on if you don't already know by now) Also, since you said that you usually read more romance, I recommend Yumi and the Nightmare Pintor by Brandon Sanderson, which is romance and I loved it o another book is Tress of the emerald sea where a non-important character from Mistborn appears

Brandon Sanderson boyo, and I just finished Crown Of Midnight. We seem to be the exact opposites and I'm here for it! Little tip for Sanderson, look up a reading order or just follow the one he himself recommends! Some of his more recent books have huge payoff if you've read his older work, and some lines will go over your head without reading say Warbreaker or Elantris. ALSO ALSO The Secret projects Tress and Yumi can be read at any time and they are personally my favorites of his books. If you want a tonal break to something a little more light hearted then I highly recommend both!

@@theegreatkatsby I'm feeling a little better now that I'm done with Crown of Midnight, NGL Throne of glass and the first half of Crown were kinda hard to read. Calaena just doesn't read as a believable character to me. But who knows I have Assassin's Blade and Heir of Fire already on deck and I'm hoping the series picks up from here.

@@vearheart42 it definitely picks up! I believe Throne of Glass was originally a trilogy, but then she decided to make it a series, so the world expands a ton in Heir of Fire (and in my opinion, that's when the series picks up pace as well)

@@vearheart42 Yes! SJM's official order is Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Assassin's Blade, then Heir of Fire and so on (I ended up reading Assassin's Blade after Heir of Fire and enjoyed that order, but I think the general consensus is that it's best read 3rd)!

Omg so glad to have watched your reaction! I love Sanderson so much. I could never read fantasy, so when i saw a bunch of book tubers recommend it as an entry point I thought, one last try. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. By far the most elaborate and mind blowing reading experience I have ever encountered. Considering a lot of his books are in the same universe, the Cosmere… 🤯. There were so many great scenes in this book, but off the top of my head I loved it when Vin tells Kelsier that Mare didn’t betray him. The Lord Ruler being able to pierce the copper cloud is what gave them away. I mean that whole scene, Kelsier struggling to love someone who hurt him. She giving him her only atium so he could survive. Such a great moment!

Apparently Sanderson said that book 2 was the book he initially wanted to write. His concept was “what do you do after you’ve defeated the dark lord?” Of course he had to write the first one first for the second one to work.

What's the second book about? Politics. Do you think Elend is not well versed on leadership? You're dead right. About Kelsier not necessarily being a good guy. Sanderson has said that's he's a coincidentall hero, he's "good" just because his objective is to defeat someone as evil as The Lord Ruler. And there's evidence tu support that.
