"MY FIANCE NEGLECTS ME FOR VIDEO GAMES"- Therapy Gecko

Комедия

A caller expresses concern over her partner's love for video games and how it's affecting their relationship.
After that a woman tells me about how she recently formed a relationship with her father, who she previously thought was dead.
Then a guy and I chat about how he has joined a fraternity in an attempt to understand men more and another caller tells me about her deadbeat sister. There is some other stuff too. I am a gecko.

Dang, the first girl I feel for ya. I felt like gecko was dancing around this the whole time so I'm just gonna say it: You cannot enter your marriage in the hopes that he will just magically "grow up" one day. People are capable of change but it is often slow and subtle. You need to decide if you are okay with the fact that he likely may never change. If quality time is your #1 need, you need to ask yourself if you are willing to go on the rest of your life without the level of attention you want. Do your lifestyles line up enough that you are content or will you be unfulfilled? I wish you the best of luck & a happy relationship ❤️

It's not even finding someone who has time for her--he clearly has time, but even when she's willing to meet him halfway and game with him, he doesn't want that either. It's more like finding someone who is willing to *make* time for her or even compromise a little bit.

@@achromaggie she’s also complaining cause her working husband has a hobby lmao. Maybe he doesn’t want to be around her for a reason. Maybe she’s not relaxing. Maybe she doesn’t ever shut up, and all the man wants is peace and quiet. I don’t think that the relationship doesn’t work because of him, it doesn’t work because of either of them. Sounds like his video games are his ONLY coping mechanism for his hard job. When you only have one or two coping mechanism, that can create problems and dependency on just those things. It’s similar to how addicts use substances because they don’t have the resources for a broad range of coping skills.

Cops have been made to discriminate in our current class economic warfare. So who really cares about them? No moral dilemma with incarcerating people over plants, they're not very compassionate people by taking that job alone. So why share them empathy?

@@quixoticrealities5072 Your response is demonstrating that you don't know what empathy is. Empathy is the capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing. What you are saying is you can be empathetic you just have a prejudice (bigotry) that prevents you. I do hope you one day can move somewhere where there are no police and make yourself the perfect soft target. I am curious what other noun could we replace cop with and ask if they deserve empathy?

The first person with the game addicted fiance, I think she should just move on. I'm not even saying it's wrong for her fiance to be involved in games like that or anything but their priorities are so different. She even tries to game with him but their tastes in games clash too. I don't think marriage is a good idea. Not sure why people even ask these questions, the answer is obvious: either decide to stay and deal with that or move on and find someone more compatible. To already feel neglected before you walk down the aisle is a red flag and neither should burn themselves to keep the other warm. He needs someone who won't mind his gaming (and maybe game with him I guess? Idk) and she needs someone who wants that quality time she's looking for. Also, marriage is 50/50, if he's not even trying why not just leave him? Seriously, I think that's advice for any kind of relationship.

I feel for the woman whose man plays games all the time. In the past, I've been with men who play a lot of games and I often found myself in the background. Watching, or doing other things while they played, waiting for a break in the games to feel seen or heard, etc. Recently I've refound the love of my life who was a HUGE gamer and, without me EVER saying anything, decided, upon our becoming official, that he wanted to sell his Xbox, give his best friend his specialized controller, and focus on our relationship and us building our future together. His friends who he gamed with regularly are pretty bummed and I feel this guilt that I think comes from past relationships and desiring quality time or attention or affection, when in reality, he made the choice on his own to focus on the next chapter of our lives rather than the games. I'm really grateful. It's a learning curve for me.

In regards to the first girl - I'm a person who enjoys alone time by playing games. However, my language is quality time so there will be nights of instead of me playing video games, I do an activity with my girlfriend. Whether that's going out to eat, or watch a movie and cuddle. Sometimes I just lay in bed with her and scroll on tik tok with her and show her what's on my feed. Unfortunately, her boyfriend will have to make the effort to set time for her. Whether it's date nights or weekend trips together. If he won't make the effort, then I recommend she should find someone who can fulfill her needs.

The dude at 30:00 needs to realize not adhering to the ethics you preach and hating when you are wrong is something people do in general, it is not just limited to men. He should also go to a sorority if he thinks women aren't horny. It sounds like his mother is a misandrist and her causal sexism is now negatively affecting her son mentally.

So sex is what you are born with and gender is the role your perform, or are expected to perform in society. If you are born a male(sex) then you will be treated like a boy and then a man. People who transition later in life might refer to themselves as a man, but assigned female at birth or vice versa for clarification.
