My two half sisters are in that same sperm donor 23-and-me ordeal. It is probably the same exact Facebook group honestly, roughly the same number of siblings at least. It’s a whole thing, my oldest sister has gone on trips with some of the siblings and “reunions” and the like. Editing to say I think it’s a different bunch of siblings, because I sure haven’t heard anything about the donor being in the damn Facebook group. Yikes

To the first caller, I’m adopted and found my birth family through ancestry. I think you’ll be surprised at how much you have in common with these half siblings. I know you already have siblings, but what could having more hurt? I love meeting bio family I’ve never met before and I’d be so stoked if they all wanted to hang out. I think that’s awesome! The more love the better! I don’t think any of that is weird, some people really want that bio connection and it’s important. My bio half brother wants nothing to do with me (he was adopted at birth too) and that has really hurt my feelings. I’m not a weirdo or anything, I just want to connect to my bio family. So just something to think about. It’s messed up your mom won’t tell your dad though, that’s a bad secret to keep from your husband.

Hi that was me. It may feel frustrating to you but imagine being 23 and basically finding out your life is a lie. Growing up I was always told I look like my dad. I always thought I was a certain ethnicity. I always thought I got my personality from my dad. Then suddenly one day a bunch of random people are all of a sudden your family. It’s hard especially being from divorced parents and being forced to have step siblings who don’t really like you. It almost feels like living through that trauma again. I know one day I’ll probably meet them. But it’s a huge change in my life. Even going to the doctor I had to change medical records. When they ask questions like if someone in your family has cancer or diabetes etc. I had to change all those answers because I was answering about the dad that raised me not the man who’s sperm was used. Its also hard for me to let people in as I have some issues with abandonment so that’s probably where my hesitation comes from. Thank you for the advice! Oh and my parents are divorced so it’s her ex-husband lol

@@amayaemmons8668 hahahaha no definitely not! It’s quite common to use a sperm donor. Especially back in the 90s when the technology for infertility wasn’t as advanced. My parents chose the donor and that’s who my biological father is. The our father documentary was the doctor using his own sperm!

@@kellyordonez9630 I just found one of my brothers through the same method. He’s struggling with it also. It’s ok to not be ok with new and shocking circumstances. Your life deconstructs in an instant and then takes a longer amount of time to rebuild. It’s a whole disturbing process. Good luck with it!
