My Favourite Weed, My Orchard Tour and Sorting the Greehouse on the Allotment Plot

A vlog about a typical day for me on the Allotment plot.
A little work to do and plenty of time to do it.
If this isn't good for mental health I don't know what is!

Plots coming along nicely there! Didn’t realise how big it actually was, and that orchard has some decent trees too. Great video chap 👍🙂

Thanks :) The plot is starting to look bigger the more I get it cleared. An overgrown patch definitely looks smaller to me. I caught up with you guys last night. Lovely stuff 👌

I lived at my home for over 30 years - when 20 years later a new man moved in two doors away. He would come out moaning that he did not have space to get his car in and moaned about the other neighbours. One day he went off on one stopped his car in street holding up traffic and a bus waving his arms up and down got in his car screeched up road came back down and stopped his car run up to my house. My dad had just died a month previous and I was really down depressed so when he came to my door I was not in a good way. I opened the door and he started ranting on that someone parked in 'his space' I said do they have Tax on their car and he said yes, I said they can park where they want then as its a public road, anyway he kept on and I asked his to leave and he did not and that when I lost it and screamed at him to f off and he still complaining as he was walking away - I lost the plot, Your very calm man and I like you and watch you keeps me calm. Well done on you plot mate I really hope it brings you years of enjoyment

Sometimes we just need to step back and realise we can win battles by walking away. Easier said than done, I know

There's a book called Grow a Little Fruit Tree and it is an outstanding book for keeping fruit trees small while not hindering production, if that's up your alley.

Hi, The guy who gave up the plot did so because of I'll health. I've reached out to him to offer him the opportunity to come up and sit and relax. I've heard he's on the mend so I hope he does. I wouldn't mind him having a key

That leaning apple has a split right up the trunk, not sure it'll be worth saving in the long run as it'll never be able to seal the wound and spores will get in, if the split doesn't go all the way to the ground/the graft point, you could coppice it (just before bud break in Spring) and splice in/graft some scions and get 3 or 4 varieties on one tree, scions are cheap enough to have a go or take some from other trees, end of winter/before bud break in early spring is the best time, if it's split to the ground it's probably not worth saving. All the trees would benefit from mulching to the drip line.

It looks like the last plum tree you showed us is a Samson plum. The fruit are very small and you get 100's. No good for eating but Damson plum jam or sauce is easy to make. Don't pick them until they are dusky blue in colour. From NZ. 3:27

Plot is coming along amazingly since I last watched a video! Your pumpkins should hopefully bounce back, might be a bitnof transplant shock as well. Mine went a bit yellow when I first put them out. I've sprinkled some chicken manure pellets around them and gave them a seaweed feed and they seem to be perking up. Your orchard looks some peaceful and beautiful

Hi Craig I only got a glimpse of your Rhubarb stems in this video but it looks like your cutting them off You need to be ‘pulling them’ right at the bottom so they come away with the ‘white looking horse shoe ‘ on the bottom of the stem otherwise it will stop fruiting quite quickly and Rhubarb has a fairly short season you should stop picking it by late Summer and let it rest

Where the pumpkin leaves yellow when you bought them?? It’s a sign of Nutrition Deficiency... you can also tie pumpkin plants on a frame as it grows.

Feed the pumpkins and they should recover, liquid seaweed fertiliser or if you've got comfrey on your plot, make comfrey tea fertiliser. Good progress. Jo Devon 🙂
