I agree with these! I'm in love with the Black Box HG-2 and the MS version too. I use it on almost everything. I find I need less compressors when I use it for gtrs/keyboards. Just dial in the saturation and maybe a little eq and I'm done. I'm just now diving into Soundtoys and so far I'm digging their vibe.

GMTA! I have most of these as well. One to try out is Soundtoy's Super plate, Little plate's new big brother. I also just bought Baby Audio's Crystalline, and absolutely love it. Kiive keeps putting out amazing stuff as well, looking forward to what they'll come out with nect. I'd add Softube to the list, just to show them some love. Their Tape plugin just oozes character.

I totally agree. I would love a mixing course featuring this song. I don’t think there are enough radio pop country/rock tutorials online.

Good list! Plugin for plugin, it’s virtually identical to the ones I use most 😂 I’d add in Adaptr Audio’s Metric AB as being indispensable too, it lives on my monitor fx chain permanently - brilliant plugin.

I see, I come from live sound world so I find myself missing having physical faders sometimes but I am not sure if enough to buy a DAW controller. Video idea: maybe a quick gear rundown thing. I know people love checking out what their fav creators choose as their toolset. @@spinlightstudios

I wanted to like Silencer and was initially impressed but then started not to like how it dulls the high end on snare hits. Do you find that? I went back to using Boz Digital Gatey Watey and prefer that one.

I think it depends on the drums! Really hard hit drums - hard rock/metal seem to come up pretty good. If it’s not working, I go back to ProMB. Between the two I get a good result with bleed suppression!

I took advantage of the Black Friday sales this weekend. I picked up the Soundtoys MicroShift after watching your Melodyne Vocal Harmony vid. Very cool plugin. Also grabbed Echo Boy - sounds remarkably close to a Deluxe Memory Man. Also grabbed Little Plate. Also picked up Black Box. Since I already have Saturn 2 and now Black Box, is there a reason to get Decapitator? Also - Melodyne 5 is on sale: Essential - $49, Assistant - $249, Editor - $399, Studio - $699. I was thinking about getting Assistant. Do you think - for a non-professional (hobbyist) - I would get more value from Editor - or is there a point of diminishing returns? Awesome video as always.

You would probably be fine Saturn and black box, they just have different flavors of distortion/saturation really. I’ve used Decapitator for so long, I know how to get what I want out of it. I did forget to mention melodyne, which I use basically everyday haha Which ever version of melodyne allows you to see all instances in the same window, that’s what I would recommend. I have studio, but maybe assistant or editor has this feature?

Me to, yesterday I bought celemony melodyne based on the fact that Ray told us that flex pitch in Logic is not a crystal clear as Melodine for tunning vocals and also because for the function of being able to extract chords from an audio and since I am drummer, I need this option to use it as a novice guitar player. Great recommendation.

I would get Essential and then wait for discounts on upgrades. I'm all the way up to Editor now, and I guarantee you I haven't spent $399. I paid $49 and then kept upgrading when they offered me a discount. I think I spent $100 to upgrade from Essential to Assistant and another $100 to upgrade to Editor. No desire to get Studio because I don't feel I'm missing anything. I will say that Essential doesn't have the Polyphonic algorithm (which allows you to tune individual notes in chords). It's also lacking some of the features beyond just tuning. So if you really think you'll want those other features right away, you may want Editor. But if you're just trying to tune individual vocals and can wait for the other stuff, then I advise just getting Essential.

A little bit! There are a few things I use but should probably look at phasing it out and getting off the subscription train. I do think it’s decent value what they offer in the sub though!
