My face on coins - Silver and Bronze coin minting - Reeded edges! - xTool P2
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I'll be making custom coins with my own face on them. I used the xTool P2 55w laser engraver to make a pattern out of acrylic and the sand cast these coins in silver and bronze. I was able to reed the edges by using a knurling die set up in the milling machine.

King Robinson is a fair king and good to his people 😅
Next video I want to see is, old fashioned die stamping, like Roman coins, but with you're design.❤
Now you need to build a treasure chest to contain these coins and other cast treasures. Great design and build sir. Thanks for sharing. Wishing you a great week. Peace
I don't think I've ever watched any videos by anyone else where the time goes by so quickly. Always interesting, always entertaining, and always informative. Well done!
The text on at least one side of the coin should be "IN METAL WE TRUST!" 😂 So friggin' cool 😍
That is one sketchily inventive way of knurling on a mill, congratulations. You are a machinist through and through if you like it or not

that's what you do on mills. what's the problem.
As usual, you didn't disappoint. Definitely a cool little project!
I recommend watching how real currency coins are minted after this because if you don't know, you'd expect it to be like this, but on a much larger scale, and it's not. It's totally different, and essentially, the coins are punched out of metal and then stamped. It happens so fast that in quarters alone, just ONE of the three US mints makes over ten thousand dollars an hour.

His content is really interesting; the way he shows every step to complete each project. Great channel! 👍
really cute and cool idea!!! i think the laser could be used to mark before hand where your coins round out, just along the outside of it, so you have a better mark already done. also for the knurling, turn from the other direction. right hand rule on the force/velocity to keep the coin from bouncing out... well, unless it was too hard and wasn't working
Keep it going Mr.Foundry!!
Very nice result! Just a tip, instead of filing, you can just clamp the coin between the steel pucks using the tail stock, then turn down the OD.
You’re an amazing talent. These projects must give you a huge amount of satisfaction & joy.
Amazed by the detail you got out of petrobond. I will buy some soon now.
Man, those look GREAT! I usually do 4-6 to a flask just to make efficient use of shop time. I have a stack of bearings and a straight knurl wheel that i haven't quite figured out how to arrange... your reeding setup looks amazing too. I'm taking a stack of custom coins in bronze and zamak to trade at the viking festival today!
Pretty cool. I’m working on a coin project right now but using a very different method. Hopefully I get as nice of result as you.
I learn so much every time I watch one of your videos. Thank you!
Wow you make some very nice castings!!
You sure did immortalize yourself. You're so talented and smart.
Great Ideas ! TY for your Creative Insights !!!
In the distant future archeologists will find these and wonder why they look so different from the currency usually found in the area. At first they wonder if they discovered a rare, but official government coin. They'll wonder what famous historical figure or leader you were. Then after taking it back to the linguists and translating the word "Foundry" they'll understand that these were hand crafted by a humble blacksmith who put his own face and name on them for fun! And they'll have a little chuckle. And imagining that makes me happy :)
Your creativity compliment your arsonal of tools... or maybe I said that backwards. Great video!
Great job! Some clever ideas there with the laser pattern to the reeded edges. 👍🏼
Super cool!
Really cool idea! Coins turned out very nice! Amazing to think, if we really want and try, we can have or do whatever you can imagine! Great job! Thanks for sharing!!
That was awesome!
That’s pretty cool
That's pretty cool!!!
Terrific job ol mate.
Love it! Thank you 🙂
really cool
Very cool
I NEEE MORE COIN VIDEOS THEY ARE AMAZING
Yeah love some coins
Awesome.
thats awesome
Nice coins 👍🏻
That seems like a great business idea 💡. Making custom coins for ppl with their picture.
very cool
Wow, man. That's pretty awesome. You are definitely starting to accrue some pretty sweet shop toys, but your creativity only grows. Looking forward to more!
Amazing
Your channel has been an inspiration. I've got my second jug of suspendaslurry in the mail yesterday.
Very nice 😉👍
pretty sweet, dude!
Please create die cast toys and mixing both cnc and 3d printing. Is it viable to die cast thin walls like of a die cast toy with maximum efficiency, for a small home workshop and maybe share some methods for maximum yeild, thanks
Amazing clicksprin...emmm Robinson! =P haha love your coins man :) good job!

Nice
Outstanding job ❤. Looks just as good as country sponsored coinage, maybe even better than most. Best of luck 🍀
Buen trabajo!!!
Very cool! Love the way you made them perfectly round. Definitely would love to try and make some custom coins like this for magic tricks. Don't have a mill to make the reeds though, but I think I might be able to do the other parts. Either way, would be a fun project
Way cool
Looks great! I wonder if olivine sand would have worked even better? I use that and with my resin printers lack of defects (layer lines for example) I still pickup every detail in the print.
good video
Perfect Work! Can you make your small bust for table for next video?
Super awesome project! It's hard to tell but are the coins esstenially 2D or do they have a 3D contour to them? If not you should be able to use the laser citter to make it 3D. All in all excellent work and use of a laser cutter!
good
Really cool custom bullion! How heavy are those silver coins?
Now you gotta make six outta nordic gold to finish the currency. These look amazing!
The most limited edition coin ever made!
Wow! Those might be the cleanest sand cast coins I've ever seen! The reeding was a nice touch. I've heard that was an anti-counterfiting measure invented by Isaac Newton.
@SilverSeeker

It's wasn't an anti-counterfeiting measure. It was to prevent Gold and Silver coins from being shaved down. People would shave off a bit of the edges of their coins and collect the shavings making the coins weigh less than they were supposed to. They would eventually melt down the shavings and have free Gold and Silver.
Nice knurling solution! Could you engrave the coins the inverse? Coin design generally sits proud of the faces.
These look FANTASTIC!!! I can't believe you got so much detail using acrylic and a laser!!!! haha!!! Do you think you could engrave a 3d surface? like not just one depth across the pattern, but having depth to it like on US coin... I think it could be done... but it would probably be easier if you did it with one LARGE coin so you could get a lot of detail without it having to be etched really deep.... GREAT WORK!!!!
where'd you get that little hand crank sieve for the sand? I tried using a cooking strainer on petrabond and it was a lost cause.
what should i buy if i want to start melting metal and making things
Cool project and a nice foundry. what machines do you have?
Could you make a jig to glue them to a piece of stock, then circularise them in the lathe? Like a v-block with a couple shims, the stock on the shims, then tape-glue-tape the coin to the stock? And remember to bury some, preferably in some ritualistic-looking arrangement. It'll really confuse some future archeologist.
Now if we weigh one and compare it to the price of silver, we'll have a conversion rate for Robinson Dollars/Found(ry) Sterling!
👍🏻👍🏻
Would a later engraver do the face?
Which Patreon tier will they be? I mean, if you're allowed to send them to patreons.
Could've used superglue to glue the coins to your lathe as well, on a prepared round piece in the jaws of the same diameter or smaller, to help you guide it as close to center as possible. Heat would dislodge the glue (heat the mandrel, not the coin).
Great vide. For 7:43 lowering the gain is really good but please also hard limit higher frequencies. Its a bit uncomfortable on quality headphones if you have sensitive ears.
❤❤❤
👍👍👍👍
You need to be wearing a crown on your new currency.
Hey Mr.Robinson foundry how to about you create a Medival sword or a some weapon from the games?
I always love your videos, and the videography has come a very long way. That said, I always think your mic quality sounds slightly tinny and always distracts me from the content. You remind me a lot of Blacktail Studios, another fantastic creator, his medium is wood and epoxy.
Why did you decide to make the motives 180° rotated? I would expect them to be both heads up.
I've been meaning to ask...can you reuse the petrobond sand? Obviously the blackened sand is not reusable, but what about the rest of the casting? Can that petrobond be reused?
Do you made it on demand ?
His kingdom is a-coming.
👍🏼👍🏼
If I wanted something like this will you do it?
How much is the value of the metal used to make those coins?
And 0.02% sharpie 2:48
ARE YOU GONNA SELL THEM? VERY COOL..THANK YOU
Can i use them for trade anything :)

Moldy pizza maybe
you forgot one step... before the knurling you have to push up a lip around the edges..... :) I would think you coulld easily do it the same way you did the knurling but with out the teeth.... but maybe you would have to flip it just like you had to with knurling, and you'd probably have to use a bit more pressure... maybe using a slightly angles piece to press against the coin would not only keep it from sliding upwards but you would only be pushing up one edge at a time..... oh but if it's too much of an angle it would push the metal out of the edge, huh..... hrmmm ... maybe using an angled piece isn't such a great idea... well, maybe LOL I guess it would be a bit of trial and error...
Minting is a stamping process, that was casting.
Ok here me out this but for dnd
very cool! Suggestion: call them tokens. Coins are used as money. Making your own money is generally a bad idea, IMHO. … but what do I know? I’m not a lawyer.

@@astygmatyzm9071 It depends on intent. Under 18 U.S. § 486, it's a criminal offense to make or pass any metal coins "intended for use as current money ...". Doesn't even need to resemble legal currency. Probably not terribly risky, I imagine, unless someone in law enforcement has an axe to grind. Being somewhat paranoid, I'd put a written disclaimer at start of video. ...or call them tokens.
Now do one in gold!
Can you build a Mandalorion armour ?
#rome
Did you know that those ridges on the side of the coins were created to prevent thieves from grinding of a bit of metal on every coin and then still use them Also it was a fantastic video seeing a different way of making coins with a laser cutter keep on going :)
I feel like these coins are missing a rim on them which protects the faces.
🐲💨💥LFG!!! Giddy Up!!!🌮🎲✨
