I remember when Pat's NES book originally came out and it _was_ considered original because, as Pat said, nobody had made an NES book quite like that before. I might have mentioned this last time but I remember people criticising some of the reviews when it first came out for not being accurate, and it seems we know who to blame. Now if only I could afford to get the book shipped to New Zealand. Might be cheaper to just get Pat to hand-deliver it to me. 🙃

Luring people with the promise "Well...we can't pay you up front, but it's great exposure and experience. Plus if it goes over well we might give you a bonus and hire you for future work" is one the shittier things you can do in any industry and there's no shortage of scumbags who extort free work out of naive artists. I would not be shocked to learn if lots of Amico marketing material and some of the games were done this way. It would explain the sloppy quality control (using the wrong font on the Biplanes box, misspelling "Intellevision"), the complete lack of a consistent art style, the "appropriation" of art assets from commercial games, etc. I wonder how many Amico jobs interviews ended with "your portfolio is great but we'd like to see how fast you can execute a design. Here's a game we'd like you to make some cover art for as a 'test'. And since this is our product with our trademarks, we'll need you to sign this waiver saying we own it..."

All of this for a failure worse than Ouya, and fake rich guy, who tries to claim anything he can to act like he's had any relevance since like 1995 with Earth Worm Jim 2, a game that very few people under the age of 50 seem to care about.

Yeah hearing all this now makes it kind of I guess, ironic? That both Pat and Wet were in such close proximity to each other at MGC. Kinda like how it was also funny that Pat's booth was so close to the WATA booth.

This whole drama has been pretty amusing to watch as a complete outsider who sometimes has your videos get algorithm’d into my recommendations. The fact that he accidentally put your photoshopped face in his book forever is just the most spectacular self-own I’ve seen in a long time. I’ve been musing that the shills really acted a lot like Elon fans, there’s something about capitalist culture and it’s exaltation of superficial ostentatious displays of wealth that really seems to be harming the psyches of some men (it’s always men).

General rule is if you're business relies on underpaying staff then you don't have a viable business model. If the money is there but you don't pay them by choice then that's just greed.

As a backer of your NES book and a purchaser of the SNES book, I figured I'd check out other similar books as well to get as many angles as possible. I had both volumes of his NES book and his system compendium wish-listed on Amazon. That's a nice quick and easy fix.

I think the best part of Pat's book is the Star-rating system. I mean that's something any newbie to NES gaming would be interested in. Forget the history and memories, kids need to know the good games are, and the possible hidden gems, while helping them avoid the duds.

Love the new song and segment intro for Petty Pat, nice to get something new. Also that Casinos game was one of my favorite Pat the NES Punk videos that I ended up getting my had on a few of those games and liked it. Had a fun moment were I was drunk and stones with roommates and showed him the nes game that we bet all our money in game which was $15000 and won. Anyway love the podcast and some youtubers these days.

Ian and Pat, u nailed Amico Shill. I'm not embarassed to admit that at first I devoured what they were spewing having grown up on Intellivison. My older brother and I were both so super excited initially to see promises of upgraded greats we spent houurs playing together as kids. Cloudy Mountain. Bomb Squad. Night Stalker. We didn't really care about the new stuff, we just wanted so terribly badly to be able to sit down together on a Christmas morning like we did for all those years a gain back some of that magic. I just wanted it SO bad I believed it all until I didn't. And as much as I really didn't want to believe what you guys were saying, I finally did have to admit a new era of Intellivision wasn't coming and in fact, their own actions have destroyed all hope that I will ever see anything new Intellivision and the brand many of us old timers still have fond memories of, was eviscerated and trampled underfoot. I figure if Keith could have returned from the grave he would have, and rained hell fire down upon all these shills for disrespecting the legacy of Keith and the Blue Sky Rangers.
