    This guy sounds like a real winner. Why try to pass off counterfeit games at a specialty retailer that actually knows its stuff? The set-up was obvious (busy day, hoping to catch staff slippin'), so the intention is pretty obvious as well. Good on you, Ian, for spotting the fakes and saving your employer from losses. This story underscores the need for specialty retailers to know their products and to be reasonably cautious with high-value merchandise. Too bad there isn't an "instruction manual" of sorts to discern the real deals versus the fakes.

    I have a legit Little Samson that I purchased for about a 100 bucks like 5 or 6 years ago. I have my games nicely in a shelf, one day I was cleaning and accidentally bumped the shelf. Many of my NES games fell to the floor, including the Little Samson. A little tiny piece of plastic from the top broke and so one of the internal plastic parts that hold the internal board. I repaired it, but it will never be a mint copy any more. It still hurts me to this day.

    Classic scammer. Go on a busy day where employees are more likely to make a mistake? Check. Put your expensive fake rares in with a ton of legit garbage further increasing the chance of employee oversight? Check. Have a few moderately valued games mixed in to bolster your argument that the fakes are legit if employee questions you on them. Check. Over react when employee calls you out in a loud and obvious manner in hopes that the employee will get worried other customers might be scared off and give you something just to get you to leave. Check.

    Glad I stumbled on this. Had no idea the 1000 or so NES/SNES games sitting in my parents attic are worth a mint. Bought all my friends collections/consoles off them in the late 90's for pennies as we went off to college. I'd say no less than half contain manuals and boxes as well. And almost none are Madden/2K type sport games. I knew retro gaming was a thing but I had no idea the ridiculous prices and lengths people would go to to. Looks like I will be paying off my car loan very soon.

    Worked at a used video game store years ago. People bringing in sports games were the worst. Would always have stacks of them, and would always put up an argument when you told them that you'd only be able to give them store credit- and not much, because nobody fucking wants old sports games.Had one guy try to argue that one particular year of Madden that he was trying to sell was "the best year."Also used to love it when people would say things like, "I'm bringing my business elsewhere." Always wished I could get that in writing.

    +FUgameCrue There's a way of getting around this tho. Fakes USUALLY mimic the American versions. I've never seen a fake GBA game that tried to look Japanese or European. They always try to include a ESRB rating with a "E" or something.

    +FUgameCrue I live in the UK and once ordered a copy of Pokemon Sapphire on GBA. Turns out I was sent a counterfeit copy. The seller claimed it was geniune but I looked up how to spot fakes. It was definitely fake. Naturally I was pissed off. I tried ordering somewhere else and managed to get a geniune copy in the end. I was in an independent game shop once and spotted them trying to sell a LOT of fake Pokemon GBA cartridges in a glass cabinet. Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen. The prices were suspiciously cheap as well. Luckily I was able to tell that they're fakes. I didn't say anything and I regret doing that. If I ever go in there again, I will call them out on it. It's despicable how these fuckers think they can get away with conning people.

  • @gamerguy425

    @gamerguy425

    +FUgameCrue I don't think Pokemon Quartz or Chaos black, or all these random titles are hard to differentiate.... The DS counterfeits are harder to spot though, because they don't have unique translucent/colored cartridges and shiny labels. If you see leaf green or sapphire in a grey cart with a flat label, you know they aren't legit, but diamond on the other hand looks the same as any DS game. Not that there's terribly much demand for gen IV though.

    No joke a few months ago my local retro game store actually got a real and official Little Samson. They paid the guy a lot of money but I can’t remember how much but. A guy buys the game 2 days later after getting the money. They sold it for I think around $5000. Never got to see it because I was too late.

    I know a store near Montreal that sells reproduction carts of translated games at fairly high prices. I can understand your stance on this if those games used to be commercially available like Little Samson but what's your take on those that never were in the first place like Sweet Home?

    I see no problem with reproduction games....especially if it's a super rare game that costs a fortune. A lot of us are not interested in getting into collecting on a level that we'll drop $150-$200 on a game. That said, nobody should try to pass them off as the real deal...

    El Cajon Blvd lmfao. I used to actually live in the "town" of El Cajon outside San Diego when I was like 13-14. Probably means nothing to anyone else but I found it funny.

    I was wondering if we got stuck with a fake game, how would we get rid of it? I bought a few from a place called Games 4 Less years ago and don't want to get in trouble. I would rather save up and get the real version instead but if there is a legit way to get rid of the games it would be nice.

    So how do you guys feel about like on a disc game, like say for wii or ps2 or something, when you get the game from gamestop and they threw away the original label, do you mind as much when people reprint a label for the game case? Just curious.

    He then went to GameStop and made $1,000,000,000,000,000 off of those 3 games. Next week we will see another video of GameStop selling fake games

    I don't know if Little Samson is more common in Europe or what, but I got mine for close to nothing. Game only, no manual or box, no scratches on the label: 54 USD. I have checked to the cartridge to see if it's a fake or not, but everything is as it should be, Chip codes and all. Guess I just got lucky =/

    I think its cool to have repro games if you are honest about them, and don't try to cheat others. Another sure fire way to find out if they are retro is by their boards!
