I'm approaching my third month on OM (oral minoxidil) and it has seemingly gotten me above baseline, which is fantastic! A few wispy hairs are in the temples now, but I do not think they'll grow to anything substantial. However, this indicates that I'm above baseline, and that's all you can ask for, really. And yes, I did face similar sides to Killian, but they were very transient and subsided shortly after. I'm also on finasteride for the record and plan to do a small transplant in the future (probably in my early 30s, I'm 27 now) Something I'd like to say is don't get annoyed with the medications for not getting you the results you expected/desired and then discourage other people who could greatly benefit from them. You do see this quite a lot. "oh, the sh*t didn't do a thing for me! I wouldn't bother" (blah blah... poor me) All you can really hope for is slower hair loss or stability. If you've left it to a point where you are noticeably balding, then that's on you, really (forgive me for being blunt 😂). So, accept you have a hair loss issue when the symptoms are mild (Nw1, 2, 3), and you'll be thankful to yourself in the years to come. But be open to the prospect of surgical restoration down the line. It is a long and often expensive game, but it doesn't necessarily need to be expensive if you can avoid surgery. Most of all, don't be ashamed of treating hair loss and enjoy the "fight"!😁

Thank you for making this, Killian. I was the annoying person in comments in a previous video, requesting that side effects are discussed. For anyone reading this and considering Oral Minoxodil, only persue it through a good profesional with prescription as side effects (including some potentially very serious ones) can happen. On another topic, I really hope that GT20029 is released shortly and that it is as promising as the initial data shows it to be! :O)

Very interesting video! I started some chest pression/weird sensation also around ribs. It started after 3 months with 2.5mg, in 3 days go away then i started with 1.4mg (personalized) and checked that back discontinuosly in some moment but low intensity and duration. I also took an ECG, ECO, Stress Test and all positive. What you think, have you experienced or know about that? Seems more similar to an Angina.

Great video. I’m glad I happened onto it. I just started the oral minoxidil and I can tell you that the shedding is real. Reading into it you see it’s basically pushing all of your follicles through all of the phases to the one you get to the first one. You then remain there for the most part. I could be off some on that. So I was doing some research, but the “dred shed” is real.

What you talk about loosing effect I agree with. I think many that is on Fin just go through a shed cycle and use the difference as “it’s not working anymore” usually hairs start to become grey. They become less. And thinner. And pure light physics so to speak there are thresholds that make it look worse at plateaus. So I don’t think Fin stops working. I just thing those hair reached som of those plateaus where the Hairloss was more noticeable. Heck I feel it myself being on For 23years now. But for sure it was when I stopped (stupid) Fin for almost a year it was the biggest difference. And for sure the biggest was a month after when the big shed came. The (as I most likely don’t have such aggressive one) it stabilized a bit without Fin. I think this aids in what you say about anagen cycles. Regardless of those meds might thinking up hair / prolong the cycles it’s essential that you avoid wasting them.

@@TheHairChemist totally. It’s hard to say how aggressive my Hairloss really is. But I went from full hair (at least perceived) to NW 2/3 over 3 years. And now 23 years later at places on my scalp I are the same / better than before I started on Finasteride and worse on other areas. And I am sure if I had not had my pauses / bad discipline (almost as you mentioned not switching brands) I would have been even better off today. And that is only on Finasteride. Who knows where I would have been if I had been on Minoxidil and adherence to a stricter regime? Maybe very little progression at all?

It is far more effective as there's no percutaneous barrier. It can also be metabolized by the liver completely. Every hair experienced thickening from oral minoxidil, this however was most noticeable on the mid scalp, crown, and donor.

What do you do if Oral minoxdil is growing hair around the bottom of the eye area; on the zygomatic and maxilla regions starting just below the eye lashes? This area is basically covered with sprouting hairs. Hair is also growing on the tip of my nose - this is only with 2.5mg within 2 months of use - absolutely crazy. I'm thinking about stopping oral minoxidil completely to allow those hairs to fall out while being on topical minoxidil, to keep the anagen cycle on my scalp going during this period. Then start again with oral Minoxidil at 0.625mg to see if that is enough, if it's not tentatively move up to 1.25mg. I'm hoping using a lower dose will make it less likely for hair growth in these unwanted areas.

I take the SUPER CAPSULE by Happy Head since beginning of June 2024 - it has 1.25 mg Oral Minoxidil, .5 mg of Dutasteride and 2000 IU of Vitamin D3 - the pharmacy they use has very poor reviews on a number of sites - makes me wonder if those actual ingredients and dosages are really in each capsule? I feel like I would be better off having an MD just write me scripts for 2.5mg of Oral Minoxidil and either 1 mg of Finasteride or .5 mg of Dutasteride. Also you said you were concerned about dutasteride but i have read that the side effects are the same as finasteride by that dutasteride inhibits the two enzymes the spur DHT while finasteride just inhibits only one of the two enzymes - thanks for whatever thoughts you have and you have the healthiest fullest head of hair i have ever seen on anyone - incredible.

I immediately had side effects ( extreme fatigue, eye bags) when I took it in the morning but now I take it it in the evening usually around dinner time and I don't have any side effects. I've been taking it for 6 months now. The texture of my hair feels thicker, I am getting really long hairs growing out of my eyebrows. I THINK i'm starting to see some hair filling on top but the main thing so far is these long hairs growing out of my eyebrows that I have never had before in my life. That must be related to this medicine. I also started taking dutasteride around 5 months ago after my last month of finasteride ran out. I used finasteride for 15 years but not religiously.. just a few days per week. I'm not taking dutasteride every day, maybe 4 or 5 days per week. I DO try to take the oral minox every day, but sometimes I don't take it if I'm going out socially on a saturday night so it's often 6 days per week on oral minox sometime 7.

I will be very honest, I don't know the literature to these products so I can't give any important. But if it's a topical I've covered why these are flawed by mode of delivery. If one is not responding as desired to the go-to pharmaceuticals then sure what's the harm in trying other therapies one could conclude. However, it is very possible that these therapies may not work for you or you may quit after a few months, thus worsening your situation by anagen wastage. Most people do not sustain therapies outside Finasteride and Minoxidil for many reasons. These therapies are not solely the answer, surgery is very often the only real transformation. And this is why I've pursued 5 of them. It is at the end of the day case dependant and a personal choice for each person and what they're comfortable with. Hair restoration is time consuming, expensive and often an emotional rollercoaster for many but it can be very rewarding when executed correctly.

The best approach is the Finasteride you are on but give it time to work. You should see improvement in terms of reduced shed and hair thickening in the income hair cycling. Oral Minoxidil will further improve the longevity of the follicle.

Hello Kilian, I have a question regarding the titration of oral Minoxidil. As I recall you had switched to taking 5mg of oral minoxidil for a period of time. What is the reasoning that made you go back to 2.5mg? Your latest video series is great and I appreciate the effort over the past few years. All the best to you and I'm looking forward to future videos.

After hair transplant surgery I take 5mg for about two-three months as I suspect it will catalyse the influx of growth factors to the area of injury from further vasodilation. I then switch back to 2.5mg. Long-term, I think 2.5mg is a more sensible dose for benefit vs risk and my physicians agree. There is not a massive difference aesthetically between 2.5mg and 5mg
