tried elvanse for the first time yesterday and i dont think my mind has ever been that calm and quiet before, all the thoughts that normally fly around at 120mph were now slowly cruisin by, the most amazing thing to me is that i could think about the same thought for more than 10 seconds without being interupted by my own brain.

Yesss that happened to me too. It was actually really nice the first few days, but I also felt really uncreative and … just not myself. It can be so relieving at the same time tho. I said it’s like the feeling you get when all of the sudden the AC or heating vents turn off, and you realize how quiet it is now - like that satisfying silence

I've come to the conclusion that when you're making the decision whether to try a drug, relying on other people's shared experiences with a drug that you see online is simply a mistake. They are not you. You have no reasonable basis for believing that someone else's experience with a drug will be your experience with it. You will just end up confused because you will see everything from "this drug saved my life" to "this drug ruined my life." The only way to know how it will work for YOU is for YOU to try it.

I have ADHD and Methylphenidate was like candy to me: No effect whatsoever. Elvanse was a game changer and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can finally get shit done. My body metabolizes it very quickly, so I need 70mg a day, but there’s no severe side effects for me in it. The only issue I had with it was that I was sweating a lot and I was rather euphoric for the first 2 months but that subsided, and, despite not having lost my appetite, I have to be careful to never forget any meals or else I’d be losing weight like crazy because with Elvanse, my metabolism is through the roof. Whenever I do a meds-holiday, I’m a bit fatigued during the first few days off but then I’m 100% back to normal, no side effects, no changes (well, aside from the ADHD symptoms kicking in again). Methylphenidate would give a nasty headache. Elvanse wins another point here.

@@sneekysmurf4754 definitely. Tons of people who try adhd medication start off like how you are mate. Theres not really much to lose by giving it a shot and theres always types of medication that’ll suit your body the way you want it. What’s more is that its not like antidepressants where you have to wait upwards of 3 weeks to see results (and endure all the cons in those 3 weeks) but rather these types of meds will gove you an idea about whether or not they work usually in a week or two - if not the same day haha. i personally was reluctant to due to not knowing whether or not i was lazy and I started off just like yourself. I’ve just been diagnosed (at 31) and am about to start Elvanse 30mg and Dexamfetamine 5mg… I’m a little bit concerned because I have jaw clenching on a daily basis without meds and it really gets on my nerves. Do you find it subsides after the a while? Also, are you getting your meds privately, or does your GP prescribe? I’m shocked at the cost (had to go private to avoid a year+ NHS waitlist)!! P.S. your videos have been really helpful for me through my journey to diagnosis and as you’re in the UK I wondered if you might be interested in talking some more as I don’t know anyone else with ADHD and think I could really benefit from having a bit of a network.

For me I started taking vyvanse a few months ago and honestly it’s been really great for me. My mind is a lot more clear and i actually finish tasks in a timely manner. I was worried about insomnia but so far i haven’t had any issues with it; I was taking mirtazapine and that made me wayy to sleepy but i switched to lexapro and my sleep schedule has never been more consistent. Now for the cons: The first issue i has was my hunger being almost nonexistent. Or the only times i actually felt hungry is towards the end of the day when the meds starts to wear off. But personally it’s not a huge issue bc I was kinda a compulsive eater and it’s helped me to stop snacking all the time. The only other con i’ve experienced is tics being bit more active. I have mild touretts, so my tics aren’t anything too distracting from my daily life, but i have been experiencing them more than i was before i started vyvanse.

I don't know if there are any differences or if it's because of age, but I take american Vyvanse and don't experience many of the bad side effects. I've been taking it since last spring. The only side effects I've felt are: - The euphoria, which helps bc I do be feeling kinda sad before I started medication. It usually lasts quite a bit. Like I'll be extremely happy for the first few hours after it kicks in, and keep a good mood for the rest of the eight hours it usually lasts. It varies little between days. - heightened focus. This has helped me so much with school. It's a lot easier to start working and commit to certain things like writing. It's helped a lot in the classroom as well since I used to always space out or trail off without noticing. - I do feel the emotional exhaustion like you had said, but not the physical or mental. It does have me feeling down at the end of the eight hours, but I think it's a good trade-off. I've only just felt sad and not depressed like I used to. I hope you get through your journey and end up with something that works for you, whether it be new medication or working your way off of it. The latter would be super cool if you like yourself better without meds, power to you!

I'm on vyvanse. Coming up 3 months. 40mg. Working pretty well. It took about 2 months for some of the negative side effects to ware off. Plus medication for adhd is only one half. Lifestyle changes, behavioral changes. There is effort and work one has to do along side the meds. A great book is 'Taking Charge of Adult ADHD'. By Russell A. Barkley. Meds and some self work have really helped change my life.

I know right now you are feeling good without medication and i've seen some of your videos and i have such a similar presentation of ADHD (Inattentive, fixating, creative, my own bubble) and i am now on Elvanse 50mg, what i want to tell you is that i started with 30mg and i had fatigue in the evening , headache and it wasnt good, increasing made a big change, what i mean by this is: You did not take your time to explore the right dose :) It is ironic that higher dose could lead to better outcomes when you feel terrible with 30 but for me it has been P.S. Oh and Concerta was terrible for me! It was the first one i tried, when i increased the dose for Concerta it was even worst , so i can imagine why you gave up so quickly on Elvanse.

This is a relief to hear. My first 3 days on Elvanse 30mg were amazing, I never felt such calmness and serenity in my life. But from 4th to 8th hour after taking it I was having anxiety sensation and was struggling not to focus on my heartbeat, and getting terrible headaches if It was hot and I wasn't drinking tons of water. So I was worried even the 30mg was maybe too high for me. Food every 3-4 hours and a constant supply of water are crucial, I've learned. I stopped it for the next 4 days as I was going abroad/flights/etc, and now that I'm back on them (4 days in a row already) the side effects are gone, but the sense of calmness and clear mind is also gone too. Have my next appointment in 2 weeks!

You,re describing exactly what I’m feeling, when taking Elvanse (50mg). I usually don’t take it on weekend, because I’m also feeling more and more free when skipping the dose. Also my appetite is completely gone for like 12 hours, so I have to push myself to eat without appetite. If I’m not eating I get strange stomach ache. And if I skip it I get so much appetite but I guess it’s kind of a rebound effect. Thanks for your sharing your experience!

In my instance, I started Elvanse 20mg. Dosed at 7am, worked wonders! had a good mood, good energy, was definitely very in tune with what was going on (first medication for anything for maybe 8 years or so and I was definitely being attentive). Felt the crash come on around 3pm, eyes heavy, couldn't formulate my words, (was apologising profusely to people I was chatting to, it was awful and unlike me) my back neck/shoulder muscles hurt so bad and I was feeling exhausted, I was utterly beat! I thought 'wow, these side effects maaan, is this what it's going to be like going forward? psh, who needs these' weh-heh-helly well., I'd managed to catch covid for a second time! I think the run down 'crash' the elvanse gave me exacerbated the onset of symptoms. It's been a week now, i'm clear of covid pt. 2 as well (symptoms were fairly mild, phew) but overall, elvanse is wonderful for me so far. Still going through titration so we shall see how it fairs in our soon to be long lasting relationship- but I have no negative side effects except dry mouth. win. The crash is still real, and definitely ceases working more notably around 2pm (+7/8 hours after dose) hoping theres something I can do to mitigate that. Thanks for sharing, I was diagnosed last year and started on Elvanse and I'm struggling with similar side effects. I got my dosage increased to 50mg as 30mg felt like it wasn't really doing much after a couple of months, and while it did improve my focus it also intensified the side effects, particularly the irritability and feeling absolutely knackered in the evening. I was hoping it would help me cope with stress but if anything it intensifies it. Considering switching to methylphenidate to see if it works better for me.

I just switched last month - first week I felt super tired and demotivated which I think was mostly the elvanse withdrawal. Now I'm over that, I find methylphenidate doesn't give me quite as much energy or drive to do stuff, but once I get started the focus levels are similar to what I had on Elvanse. The big plus is I have basically no noticeable side effects - in particular I'm less irritable and anxious and my mood is more stable. I've started on the lowest dose (18mg) so I'm hoping to try going up to 36mg - if it could give me just a bit more motivation while still not having many side effects then I could confidently say it works better for me than Elvanse and could see myself sticking with it longer term.

Dexamphetemines (probably wrong spelling) are probably the sweet spot for meds, I’m on vyvanse, 60mg, but dexy’s are the best in my experience, because it’s quick release but, you can take them when needed and there aren’t withdrawals. They can be modified by chemists to reduce the “lul” when they wear off too. Hope this helps, because I’ve had the same experience as you and this worked for me.

I'm on 70mg for about a year now. My side effects where quite different, but most of them strangely subsided after a while when I upped the dosage. Unfortunately, I am strongly reliant on it, as I am working in full-time high responsibility-high concentration jobs lately. The following side effects are personal experiences and might be entirely different on your end Negative side effects: -nausea (mostly gone after upping the dosage. also, eating a bit right after taking it helps) -fogginess (subsided 1-2 weeks after upping the dosage) -jaw clenching (ironically, it kind of helped with my teeth grinding, too much pressure to grind, downside is, it causes headache) -forceful heart pumping for an hour or so (usually evening, ~12h later) -skipped heartbeats with one heavy pump once every few days (also usually evening) -eating stuff with lots of sugar, like chocolate, completely undoes all positive effects for hours -exhaustion after half-time (~11h. 20-30min Power-naps solved that one for me) -loss of appetite (without meds I forget to eat, with meds I don't feel the need. Great.) -lowered libido (that one actually only appeared after increasing the dosage) -spikes of irritability/aggression. (quite rare, it flares up and subsided quickly. fortunately, impulse-control and self-discipline are strengthened as a positive effect, had to learn good habits to manage it) Regarding the aggression- I always felt like I lacked a base-level of aggression others have to motivate them, to make them competitive and such. With the meds I feel its there now but I need to train myself channel it properly, because my brain doesn't know what to do with it.

Now I am on 50mg elvanse for abour 2 months and i very few sides. My appetite is maybe a little bit lower. I get a short span of euphoria that switched in to a short span of little sadness(only about 10 minutes). After that everything is perfectly fine. My mood is muuuch more stable on it. I get stuff done and i dont have a crash in the evening like on methylphenidate. I cook myself healthy meals, do a lot of fitness and can talk to people without problems. I have no jaw clenching or excessive sweating tbh. Perfect medication for me. And in germany we have health insurance so i only have to pay about 8€ for each 30 caps. Health insurance ftw! • @jacobh793

    @jacobh793

    4 жыл бұрын

I don't think skipping it at the weekend is the best idea. Your body has no real concept of weekday/weekend so you're just taking away a medication that your body is trying to learn to depend on. Dependence and addiction are not the same, it's good for us to become dependent on our meds, that means it's helping us establish a balance that we are missing due to our ADHD. I do have some tips for helping with that feeling that you're constantly in fight/flight. Make sure you are supplementing Magnesium and try to exercise, even a small amount of exercise will reap big results. The reason exercise is so important is not actually to do with the exercise, it's to do with how exercise makes you feel. That's why even a quick 10 minute workout helps so much here. It's a psychological trick that has physiological benefits. You have to trust your path. You are doing the right thing by medicating. You should remind yourself that, often. You are unknowingly responding anxiously to the medication because you're afraid of addiction. These negative side effects you're experiencing could be signals from your body to make you stop taking the medication. Your body sends you these signals only in response to your anxiety about becoming addicted, so they are not a reliable sign that the medication is bad for you or that you should stop. Basically, changing your mindset genuinely can change the side effects and even your tolerance to the medication. We have some studies that demonstrate this phenomenon but it's still poorly understood in medicine. Lastly, if you want to reduce dosage for resensitisation, try taking 1/4 of your dose for 2-7 days instead of skipping the meds entirely. You can do this by pouring your powdered medication into water, stirring, then discarding 3/4 of the water and drinking the rest. See this discussion: www.reddit.com/r/adderall/comments/b8te5l/tolerance_quick_reset_method/

Have you thought to try the SNRI Effexor Xr if straterra hasn't helped. I got off it years ago before I fully understand and was diagnosed with adhd. It's not usually prescribed for adhd but it helped me with inattention, emotional regulation, a lot of social anxieties that came from living in an overfocused adhd mind. I'm currently trialling Vyvanse - I just started and as much as it makes me feel super calm I feel very sleepy and unmotivated and then when it wears off I feel more motivated! I'm going to get back on effexor and see how it goes. It doesn't have the best reviews and people are scared of it but in my personal experience now that I can look back in hindsight it was managing a lot of my sensory distortions, i felt more confident and in the world with much more awareness. When i saw Dr Amens 7 types of adhd and passed overfocused adhd - he prescribes effexor, cymbolta or pristique for this time. It was no suprise. I was the healthiest and happiest I've been in my life on it. I came off all meds 5yrs ago in the same frustration. But I have stopped participating in life as much as a result. I know you've stopped meds since making this video but definitely check out effexor. It's not great fun getting on yet it made me sleep really well in the transition period of 2weeks.. I'm use to feeling weird now. Getting off is a challenge but again everything's possible. I stopped cold turkey and learnt the hardest way. I do not recommend it. Let me know if you have heard about effexor. Cheers.

The spansules last longer than the Immediate release. I take a IR as a booster when needed, but I now take a combo of dexedrine and wellbutrin. Vyvanse lasted too long, however, it is the smoothest. Adderall has too many physical sides. Dexedrine spansules is like vyvanse, but I have more control over dosing with dexedrine.

I found the best way to take Vyvanse is to find your minimum effective dose. For me that is 10mg. This is enough of a dose to give me a steering wheel. I have no euphoria but have better control of my impulses. This gives me a small window to make better choices such as eating healthy and avoiding other stimulants like coffee and nicotine. 10mg allows me to sleep just fine. Do not chase the euphoria. Lean on subtlety.

Hi. Have you ever tried Ritalin 10mg? I’ve been taking Ritalin 10mg 3 times a day 35mg in total but it isn’t working for me. I’m gonna talk with my psychiatrist next week and I’m afraid to switch to another methylphenidate and have the same feelings I had with Ritalin 10mg. Is there anyone who started with Ritalin 10mg and then to another methylphenidate and it works? Because I’m thinking about switch to an amphetamine like vyvanse instead of another methylphenidate. Thanks

My son is doing terribly on Vyvanse. We’ve only just realised that it’s this drug causing his symptoms. He’s been an emotional wreck and has been saying he doesn’t feel like himself. When it wears off he gets so aggressive. He feels depressed as well now. He’s always had a “sunny” personality and this drug has changed him so much. I’d rather have my happy son that has attention difficulties than witness this emotional torture happening to him. This is the first adhd medication he’s tried(at 17). Nightmare!

Man, that really sucks! I didn’t realize you were having so many negative side effects. Out of all 4 stimulants I’ve been on, I’ve only ever had any kind of negative side effects with 2. When I had just began taking Adderall, which was the first one I was put on, I had so much pent up energy to the point of being really irritable. I felt like a caged animal or a shook up bottle of soda. Fortunately that passed within a few weeks. The only other side effect I had was the jaw clenching when I was taking Vyvanse, however, it was only on the highest dose (70mg). Funny thing is, I didn’t even realize how much I was doing it till I switched to Mydayis and wasn’t clenching anymore. Other than those 2 times, I never had any negative side effects. The thing I’m most disappointed with is how ineffective any of the medications are for me anymore. I just have no motivation to get things done and wind up wasting my days away. If it wasn’t for having to go to work, I’d probably just be lounging around the house all the time.

aj010139 Everyone response differently to different medications and doses. Some people may have great success with the first one they try, some build up a tolerance to their current medication and have to switch, some don’t respond at all to medications. The fact is, medication is effective for about 80-90% of the people who try it, which means it’s the most effective psychiatric medication in the world. Far more effective that antidepressants, benzodiazepines, antipsychotics, etc. Having to switch medications till you find the right one is normal procedure for all psychiatric medications, and when you do find what works for you, it’s well worth the inconvenience.

aj010139 It’s hard to say. The medications don’t necessarily prevent specific behaviors like that, however, they could very well help with impulse control. There’s a very appropriate saying for this, “Pills don’t teach skills.” Probably the most important thing to know about the medications is, they most certainly are not a cure that will instantly make us stop doing the things we don’t want to do, and start doing the things we want to. They can help with that, but they aren’t magic. Because of this, it’s just as equally important to start therapy, counseling, and or ADHD coaching to help you learn new habits that replace the ones you don’t want, as well as help you cope with the emotional damage done from living a life with ADHD, especially undiagnosed or untreated.

I say this to myself as much as I do to you, anxiety is part of life, yes maybe we experience it more with ADHD, but we need to learn to deal with it, not shut it away with meds. With out the negativity we wouldn't know and apprechiate what's good. The more we resistance negative feelings the more they effect us. We need to learn to have a better relationship with our difficult feelings and emotions and let them be as they are, then their grip will loosen. Hope that makes sense.

Now I'm on 30mg and I wouldn't say it's any better than 20mg, just more side effects, a slight bit of jaw clenching and stuff like that. I can't tell if I should be upping my dose again to seek better effects on focus. Anyway, my doctor is really cautious and said he won't up my Elvanse dose due to the jaw clenching, but he prescribed me a 5mg Methylphenidate booster to help extend things (I usually get tired 8-11hrs after taking my meds which is too short still).

I’m 34 years old and go on 90 mg a day. First off, I wake up and swallow my daily dose 1/2 hours before I’m supposed to get up for work. By the time the alarm wakes me to start my day, I’m refreshed and get out of bed with an ease. On the weekends I tend to take the meds around the same time, only I doze in and out of a beautiful “opiate - like melt “ for several hours. I love it! It also helps me with my sleep at night. Getting food down is a challenge. Which is not good as having an empty stomach has a profound impact on the drugs effect. Also just plan water tastes more boring than it did when I was a kid, sugary drinks are what I crave and honestly slowly sipping on them does seem to help ( research does back this up) . Down sides are dry mouth , try saliva building dissolve tablets from your local pharmacy and remember to take them before or simultaneous to taking your Elvanse. Fatigue brought on by the “come down” can be a bitch. I recommend working out, sex or going for walks. I’ve also just read the high importance of supplements, namely magnesium! When it comes to alertness , compulsion, focus, attention span and memory; I feel like the medicine is a crutch to help me stand up, but only my mind can command myself to walk. During the first 5/6 hours I feel I can pay attention to things that strike my interest , but have for the most part felt a looming capability for improvement in all the areas mentioned, but put off taking the initiative to make any changes due to my own laziness , ADHD ( ironic) or basic shortcomings. It’s as if I feel happy and confident from knowing that the feeling of mastering these disciplines is possibly makes it easier for me to say “ it’s cool, you got this , just start tomorrow “. I have given my self a few slaps when I’ve needed to do important tasks and did notice I was calmer . This is a feeling I generally get from the meds. I also have noticed that I listen better and don’t interrupt others. I usually write more concise ( now I’m up writing this at 2 am after a two week break, kinda buzzing ) The last issue I will take up about this drug and will ask advice for is how bloody sexual the drug makes me feel. After two years it hasn’t subsided much at all. I can fuck several times a day like a sexual beast / god ( thank heavens that I have a girlfriend ) , but I also love porn . It’s actually rather addictive , like I’ll feel a bit restless or even uncomfortable if I go too long without busting a nut. Let me know if any of you know how to cope with this one.
