    Keto changed my life. I have seborrhic dermatitis as well. I'd get it really bad in my eye brows. I was spending 20 minutes every morning, picking loose skin out of my eyebrows because having dandruff in your eyebrows is extremely embarrassing. After doing research and finding out that it's caused by bacteria that LOVE sugar, I cut carbs out, and it all went away.

    @@dancemonkey118 Mainly animal products. I eat a lot of eggs. I cook with butter. Salmon. Fish. Beef. Chicken. Veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce. Avocado. I buy 0 carb tortillas and keto bread. I still eat sweets. But I mainly bake them myself with erythritol sweetener. Drink mainly water. And diet soda if I get the craving. I'm not Keto, so much as I am low carb. Nowadays, you can find low-carb anything. So it's not super hard to do. Just intentional choices. I do still have fun, and eat out, and enjoy food. But it's not every day. The thing about this bacteria, is that it only gets this bad if it's fed sugar every day. If it only gets sugar from time to time, it won't get enough to breakout.

    @@dancemonkey118 I had to be totally clean before I saw the effects. I would try to go a full month with no carbs. No bread, rice, pasta, candy, baked goods, etc. Just eat meat and veggies. Except potatoes. And for fruits, stick to small amounts. Nuts are also good. Something is causing your dermatitis, and until you probably won't find out, until you cut the causes way back.

    Hey Alex, great video! I've had seb derm for the majority of my adult life and only in the last 12 months have realised that it is what I'm eating. I've been on the 16/8 diet too and have been eliminating gluten recently. I don't have my condition under control yet, but on a mission to do so. Your videos on this have been really motivating, thank you! Have you heard of the low FODMAP diet? I'm just about to start this. Basically with what you described you are eating in a similar way with the exception of garlic and pistachio. Perhaps that will fix your remaining 10%!

    Facts how’s it going man?

  • @alfredo40367
    @alfredo40367 Жыл бұрын

    The actual truth is that its elevated Insulin that is causing the issue. Insulin increases IGF-1 which increases sebum (skin oil) production. It also changes the composition of the oil coming out. Yeast that are normally present on the skin have more food to consume (the sebum) and they rapidly multiply causing all the symptoms. By lowering carb intake, you reduce IGF-1 and sebum production. Yeast have less food and they don’t multiply causing issues. Increasing IGF-1 through raising insulin also causes inflammation which doesn’t help. Carbs aren’t the only thing that increases IGF-1. Dairy is the other huge culprit. Dairy contains active IGF-1. By eliminating both all carbs and dairy. You should see it disappear. There’s a lot of skin diseases that are linked to carb and dairy consumption. All because of elevated IGF-1. Acne, Dandruff, sebborheic dermatitis. Now why don’t all people get these conditions when they eat carbs and dairy? Well it all depends on how many copies you have of the IGF-1 gene. These copies tell the body how much IGF-1 to make during puberty. The more IGF-1 your body produces, the more chances of these skin diseases. Somebody with clear skin who doesn’t get dandruff and acne, is most likely to have a lower IGF-1 level naturally. Even when they consume dairy and carbs, the elevation in IGF-1 still isn’t enough to cause issues. Food it self is not the issue. It’s the hormones that food influences that are causing the problem.

So any nut milks, or nuts in general can cause acne too (Some people forget about these being pasteurized). If you're like this, doing carnivore can be even more limited than normal. Unless you can get access to the original, unpasteurized goods.

I am now willing to fully revisit my diet because I think it'll also affect my acid reflux. My question is: what do you do when you have social events or eat out when the choices are not exactly fully in your control? Do you make room for these moments and allow yourself to eat something else?

    I have sebderm as well. If you go low carb, like less than 30g daily, you'll see your sebderm disappear. And as long as you're consistent, eating cheat meals at social events every once in a while, shouldn't be a problem. Sebderm is caused by bacteria. They feed on sugar. But they need daily sugar to manifest. A one-off meal here and there, won't be enough for the bacteria to come out. I also have acid reflux. I spent 7yrs guzzling down tums every day. Intermittent fasting helped me with that. I just made sure not to eat after 6pm. Combining low carb, with intermittent fasting, worked wonders for me. This is all my own findings.

    I've been struggling with seborrheic Dermatitis for like 5 years now, and As a body builder , I don't know how I am supposed to survive with this diet up here . I cut all sort of Grains, breads, I kept it on low carbs and low sugar, and of course I only used avocado oil and I consumed a lot of veggies with sea foods as well for 7 days to see if there will be any difference. I didn't see nothing progressive or maybe the timing was too short. Anyway, most of the time I was always hungry and I lost 1 pound as a result.

    Intermittent fasting is a bit overblown. Just not eating within a couple hours of bed is a good idea for hormonal and circadian balance, though. You are right about fat and protein. I can tell you more about why it works, and why you need at least 20 grams of protein with each meal. Protein causes the liver to produce albumin, which is a carrier of more than the generic nutrients, it also carries the slave ossilators of circadian rhythm and epigenetic quality control; simple exogenous signalling molecules which you need a constant supply of.

    You are right, mostly. Skin issue = gut problem (acne, eczema, dry skin....) - in this case, starch heavy diet is a problem (another symptom could be yellow tongue) - as you said yeast overgrowth "Sport drink" is like 30% of sugar? (what do you need to ferment yeast? sugar?) In your 10-30s you are immortal (even small change will bring fast results), if you are a bit older, be a bit more patient. Diet is a tricky topic (your diet vs diet in ancient China), nowadays we have too much junk/pleasure food. Have you ever eaten whole bag of chips by an accident? what about broccoli?. What is shelf life of chips vs broccoli? (not to mention price tag) Milk/ eggs/ wheat are most common allergens (then we have also "risky" food such as coffee). Everyone needs to experiment (raw/sprouted food could be tolerated, yet cooked wont be) with their diet. Good video and overall message.

    @@ecorry6716 You could add tongue scraper (or use soft toothbrush) to your daily routine. Coffee/tea are able to change your tongue color (imagine blueberries). Or medication/tobacco. Lastly it could be trouble wit yeast (carb heavy diet, even whole carbs could be problematic for some people).

    @@Yss0l Yes I believe it is a yeast problem because I also have seborrheic dermatitis and have had fungal infections on my nails before. Would caprylic acid pills/apple cider vinegar help this? @@ecorry6716 It depends how long you have SD. Apple cider vinegar did help some people (from what Ive read), but how long? Was it placebo? I have no idea... (never read research about caprylic acid). I did test eating tons probiotic fermented foods (no pills, all was home made). And best results I have on keto diet with fermented foods (love coffee/tea but was forced to give it up). My vegan journey (full of starch foods, healthy oatmeal, rice and beans...) was terrible for my skin. I was not able to find "magic" cure (I did try and wasted so much money:)), only healthier diet for me. Now Iam also testing omega3 and omega6 ratio.

    @@Yss0l I've had SD for about a year and a half now, just treating it with Ketoconazol, then Capasal, and now back to Ketoconazol shampoo. Tried going dairy free and then gluten free for 2 weeks each but it mostly just ended up being a reduction instead of eliminating those foods so I would be open to trying gluten/starch again but I want to try caprylic acid/ACV first because I really don't want to tear up my diet unless I really need to. I've also heard about probiotics helping people but I'm not really sure what they are or how to get them into my diet.
