Alot of the food they grew up on don´t exist anymore. Look at the chicken 92 years ago compared to now. Everything now is genetically modified -fruits, vegetables and animals. 92 years ago they weren´t eating seedless oranges, grapes and watermelons. 92 years ago you could go to the nearest lake or pond and catch fish to eat and almost everyone had a garden...or lived on a farm.

I live in Sardinia, a blue zone. We don"t eat just 1 ingredient things! But yes, our diet is traditionally pretty simple (and sooo cheap): bread, or biscuits and milk in the morning, pasta for lunch (yes, almost everyday) with veggies and some kind of protein, we snack with yogurt, fruit, Or some bread, and for dinner mostly veggies, rice, pasta (😂) and legumes or meat/fish. And a LOT of raw extra virgin olive oil.

One of the things I love when trying to eat healthy is learning different spices especially hot pepper. My favorite healthy lunch (and it's quick to make) is a blackened Mahi Mahi filet about 1/2" thick with cayenne / other hot ground pepper, thyme, smoked paprika (I leave it out sometimes), garlic/onion powder, oregano, black pepper, and a kick of kosher salt (never use iodinized for cooking, it's bitter). Pick your vegetable of choice as a bed (I like squash, carrot, califlower, brocolli/brocolini, pea, corn blends and every once in a while I will do half an acorn squash). Quinoa over rice if you want something like that. It's like a 10 min prep/cook time (using frozen vegs with microwave packs).

A good quick whole food snack is popcorn! Just buy the single-ingredient un-popped kernels, throw ~2 tbsp in a large bowl with a small amount of oil, cover and microwave until popped. Add your choice of toppings (salt, cayenne, pepper, nutritional yeast, etc). Unprocessed popcorn is pretty healthy: whole food, 100% whole grain, high fiber, high volume, low calorie. separately, the "blue zone" diets typically have very little red meat with small amounts of dairy, eggs, and fish. They get protein more by mixing beans with grains. Of course, Will's diet test still fits as a healthy whole-food option, just not so much a "blue zone" diet.

You can have sauce and spices to season your food, just make your sauce at home. I try to eat a lot of whole foods and for healthier snacks I like to make hummus and have prepped veggies in my fridge, fruit, I make herbed popcorn, tofu puff bites, slow baked Japanese sweet potatoes, chickpeas roasted with spices, avocado pudding, nice-cream, yogurt with granola, rice cakes with almond butter and bananas, chia seed pudding, I LOVE making fresh corn tortillas with melted cheese and homemade salsa. These are just a couple ideas. I eat mainly whole foods because it’s honestly so much cheaper than buying processed foods (where I live at least). It def takes more time to cook, but prepping ingredients/meals and snacks helps a lot throughout the week. Don’t restrict urself, just try to buy whole ingredients and try new recipes when possible. It’s not about making a radical change, rather trying to implement healthy habits into your lifestyle. Don’t worry too much and just take care of yourself ❤

Things like energy drinks, protein bars, pre-made frozen meals & pre-made snacks, any take-out, and drinks (sodas, juices, coffee drinks, etc) are all the no-no's of the highly processed foods. But eggs are still a whole food even if you get the cheaper ones. Herbs & spices go a long way in making everything taste better--I eat plenty of hot sauce. Dried fruit is a great snack, and good addition to salads and home-made granola. Quality aged cheese is another great addition. Try Walmart's specialty cheese section for good prices on European aged cheddars. Everything you were doing was great, but I would just add more! Like a light dessert (like dark chocolate) or fruit after dinner so you feel more satisfied. Your headaches and low energy were likely from your blood sugar dipping if you're used to consuming more sugar & carbs. You would acclimate to that. Also make sure you're adding enough salt to your food so your blood pressure doesn't dip. I'm a first time viewer! Nice vid 👌

Hey will, I studied nutrition and have a BSc in nutrition from a top Canadian university and I gotta say, the changes you saw are so on point. The skin and mood/satiety you felt aligns with that the science points to. The headaches were definitely withdrawals from supplements or caffeine. I however think that yogurt and cheese, etc, are also very natural and part of a well balanced diet. You nailed it on the head with reference to increased fiber and fat tho. In sports nutrition they made an analogy; the fat is the candle and the wick is the carbs….you need fat with carbs to maintain exertion. Of course the protein is important but if you have the infrastructure without the means, doesn’t matter. Great video

I don't crave junk food, nor do I crave pop music and blockbuster movies. All those feel boring, reptilian brain pleasure instead of neocortex subtle mixtures of sensations. By knowing how little of a food is actually 100cals, if you are in a constant weight, but, want to slowly loose some, perhaps you are already eating a daily muffin for breakfast which you do not want to cut out, you can cut it in half, divide it for 2 days, by not changing anything else, that could already be a 100-200cal deficit (if you do not substitute it for something else that is...)

But now over 12 years later, it’s so much easier with many, many options I never would have thought of. Like soup for breakfast, who knew soup for breakfast was so amazing and satisfying. I mix in my bullet blender, no sodium veggie broth, a wonderful veggie broth powder from Well Your World, 1/4 cup cooked beans, nooch, salt substitutes, ground flaxseed. In a pan I boil water and add green beans, cooked sweet potato, tofu, oatmeal, mushrooms and spinach. Blend up the bullet stuff and add to the pan with veggies. And you have the best breakfast soup. Packed with lots of protein, veggies and good carbs. Actually, it’s wonderful for other meals too. It took me 12 years to figure this out my friend. Just keep going and you’ll get so inventive with food you’ll be so excited
