My Dad Tries To Make A Kitchen Knife
Dad is making a small custom kitchen knife. It has a beautiful mosaic Damascus, as well as a nice slick profile. You can watch how dad makes this knife from start to finish with dad doing voice-over.
There are lots of forging, hammering, and dad uses the 40-ton press as well.

Im very thankful for dad videoing his builds! He takes a lot of time to video himself, time that could be spend making more knives. But we enjoy seeing dads knives being made! -Josh Royer/Kyles Brother

I hope you folks know how blessed you are in being able to work with your family at home. Especially with Kyle being one of the best in the world at what you do. I have always wanted to do that, but am too good at being a corporate shill, and frankly too much a coward, to risk trying.
your dad should definitely make his own channel, his voice is so calming.

I love watching Kyle work, but seeing Dad do his thing is just as cool.
Watching your dad fall asleep while waiting for the billet to heat up is the most relatable thing I have ever seen on this channel.
Love Dad's style of videos! No music just shop sounds and his excellent narration voice. Well done sir!

Agreed! Great voice and tone! Would be a great video to have on in the background while working as well.
Is everyone in the family high level artists? You guys are amazing.
Started my knife making at 60 years old. I watched this channel and many others and spent the first year building my grinder, Forge and accessories. After around 50 knifes I look back and see how far I came. In about 10 more years I should be a little better. Way to go Pops

Something tells me you're being modest. 😁 Some things can use the time and patience that comes with a little experience in life. 👍
Fantastic knife build. Dad Royer's voiceover is wonderfully chilled without losing any of the enthusiasm for what he's making
Dad, you didn’t try to make a kitchen knife. You did and that handle material is beautiful! Always love hearing your calm radio voice!

Do or do not, there is no try.
I've seen chefs using Damascus knives on cooking shows; they have the basic wavy, light/dark pattern. This pattern looks so much better, and the handle is excellent! Great job!
I see a dad video, I 👍 immediately. Beautiful pattern, beautiful wood. It really turned out well. This channel is by far my favorite. Go Team Royer!
So cool its Dad.... Lost my dad to covid so seeing you do more on the channel is amazing to me. He was always my inspiration and my hero. Please do more on the channel or start your own. I would watch every episode.
I miss these long-form videos, but they are even better when the whole project is completed.
No matter which Royer is working, it's always a pleasure watching
Awesome work sir! I love watching you work. Cheers
Dad does it again. Always look forward to the next installment
The voice of the zen master. Love it.
That's a beautiful piece, Dad! I love the way the pattern turned out.
You can definitely tell where Kyle's talent comes from
When I hear your dad do narration I imagine that voice on some early 70s surfing movie or snow skiing adventure
I love this channel, Kyle has a great energy in his videos and his Dad is super chill and calming. Best of both worlds
I personally love watching pops make knives. He’s definitely talented! Go pops go!!!
I always enjoy when your dad does a video. 👍
again another amazing knife made ...... You guys have so much attention to details in the knifes you make, really enjoy watching craftmanship in this league ... THANK YOU for the videos
You go "Pops!" My youngest Son's call name for me!(so I use it fondly) Thank you sir, J
Props to dad for that beauty!
I love his narration...very calming voice. Almost Bob Rossish. 🙂
As always it's à real plaesur to see lord kyle working you are the beste of the beste with love frome algeria 🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿😍💕💕
Nice work Mr. Royer! We need to see more of your projects!
Wow the pattern is unbelievable. It almost looks like a butterfly at the base of the blade, by the handle! Incredible work as always, Papa Royer! Lol
Does your Pops have his own channel? My wife and I both enjoy all of your videos. We've also enjoyed seeing the growth in the video quality. You guys are all a wonderful inspiration. Thank you all so much. I recognize that these things don't just happen on their own. It's a labor of love and lots of hard work. Thank you!

Wow, ASMR style videos from dad? GREAT!!! Gimme more))
Does your dad voice audio books? Because if not he needs to!!! His voice is amazing! So calming! I could listen to him for hours!
Good job dad as always!👍👍
That was awesome. I love watching you work. Always the highest excellence. Great job. Love that pattern.
Such a talented family! 🍻
congratulations ! it’s a truly beautiful knife
Best looking kitchen knife I've ever seen.
Wow that is beautiful
Nice looking knife, you all always knock it out of the park!
So much time and precision put into making a small beautiful pairing kitchen knife. Should say knifes. How many were made from that bullet? 4 knifes I would guess. I'm sure the client is very pleased and payed a LOT, compared to my budget, for the beautiful work. I don't do forging. Got interested in how it's done after watching that competition forging show. I'm now getting tired of that time limited stuff. I want to see the real deal. Your Dad shows the real deal of what can be done with the time, tools and knowledge to do it.
That’s so funny during the time lapse seeing your dad falling asleep, To where he was sitting up and then his heads between his legs I couldn’t stop laughing and rewound it about five times
Love the Dad Royer content!
Cool stuff, thanks for sharing.

Pretty darn cool, Dad. Beautiful pattern
GORGEOUS
That is a good looking knife. A sheepsfoot blade is a nice shape for a larger pairing knife.
Love watching the build of these knives, little tricks of the trade we see. Love the use of different woods and mediums for the handles, everything from epoxy to mammoth ivory. 🤘 I have some very nice pieces of Australian Buloke and some particularly aged submerged Huon pine if you'd like a couple pieces, almost petrified, it's fascinating stuff & can buff up like glass, but I'll warn it's pretty stern to work.
Absolutely stunning
Your dad has a great narration voice. You should use that more
Very enjoyable video, thoroughly enjoyed it, top quality knife as well !! You should start your own channel Dad. Regards from Down Under.
I just thought of something. Have you guys ever thought of making damascus throwing stars? Might be an easy way to make a bigger production and more affordable so more people can own a piece of your work. Idk maybe it's not a good idea.

I worked in a copper smelter in my 20's, taking the molten 'matte' and refining it from about 40% up to 98%, then final refinement and casting. I think you would have really enjoyed the converter operation work I did, you would have been bloody good at it too. You're watching and reading molten metal as it blows and pours, reading the flame changes. There's a dark art behind the metallurgical science. It's very much like how deburring in the sharpening process has been quantified, but is still very much a 'by feel' art.
Çok güzel tasarım, ellerinize sağlık...👏🙂
The title should state does instead of tries because he doesn't try he does. Great job 👍👍
много я смотрел видео по изготовлению ножей, но вы уровень бог I watched a lot of videos on making knives, but you are a god level
I just found out that I live about 30 mins away from you! I can't help but wonder if I've ran into you somewhere at some point, considering the area we live isn't very big. I'll just say I live in the SPGF area ❤️! Me and my son love your videos, keep up the great work, Kyle!
I would love to come see the place where this goes down. I live in Springfield so it wouldn't take me long to get there
Очень качественная и красивая работа !!!!!
Anyone else catch him falling asleep? 😂
Love it
The one thing I've always wanted to ask, is how did kyle and his dad get into knife making? You've got a great workshop set-up, so was it something you've always done or did you make other things, then move into knives?

Surprisingly for the basics it isn't too expensive to start up, the most expensive plant there is almost certainly the press, but that can be done by hand if you have the time. As I understand they haven't been doing it for very long. The attention to detail and use of the plant will determine worth more than the cost of equipment.
That anneal tube is slick
This is the kind of video i like. I cant stand shorts they are totally useless to me . I dont watch them so I wait till these to show. You guys do beautiful work and I never get tired of them. Always be a fan.
he didn't just try he succeeded beautiful piece
lovely
Beautiful work Kyle!!! Do you think, that the damascus steel you make can withstand a blackpowder shot if a barrel of a flintlock or percussion pistol is made of it?
Your dad is crazy cool! 🤪😎😉
Nice Knife
That was amazing. Craft of an absolute master. The only problem is the video itself. This exact video could be edited to be less than 15 minutes without losing anything at all. That stops a lot of people from checking out the rest of the contents on the channel. ✌️
Nice commentary by Alvin and the Chipmunks towards the end of the vid ;)
Such a sweet little knife! How do we order from pops? Or can we talk all 3 of yall into putting together a knife maybe?
The blade of the knife is so pretty that I might have made a clear epoxy hilt for it.
The Tree - that the apple did not fall far from.
It is a bit misleading title, as I think he did make it and a very pretty one at that ;-) and again, he has a great voice for doing the voice overs, well done on both the video and the knife !
How do I heat treat stainless steel?
How do i purchase a knife like that. Its so sweet. My lady would absolutely love to have a piece like this as her kitchen knife.
The knife version of Frank Howarth!
Don;t tell Kyle, but I really like Dad making knives :)
