I'm 41 years old and I've just bought a 2000$ Bodega. I think the amount of money you are willing to spend on a knife is very much a floating target. It can go up and it can go down. It all depends on your current degree of knife interest and how much money you have to spend. A while ago I never thought I would spend as much as 500$ on a knife. Now I own four knives worth more than 800$. One more "problem" is that when you get this expensive knife you will reassess your limit. I mean "if I spent 2000$ on this knife then I can spend just 500$ more on this other knife." I have to say though that in order to buy this 2000$ knife I sold off almost half of my collection of cheaper knives. So the value was already in my collection. Great video and awesome knife by the way. Have a nice day and greatings from Sweden to all knife lovers!

I'm 17, the most I've spent on a knife thus far was ~$130 on my Manix 2. Most I could ever really see myself consider spending is probably the $300-$500 range. That's mostly due to having other hobbies (primarily keeping animals) that are costly and interest me more.

+Markov Algeroth only because you are 19, and you should know better, I'm going to call bullsh*t. Tungsten carbide? The only thing you do with that material would be making drill bits, and knife sharpeners. And they rarely cost that much unless you're looking in to oilfield bits. If you're telling the truth, post a brand and model.

+Markov Algeroth I stand corrected, but that also brings up another question. What kind of person wants a knife that ugly, and the brittle? I mean, of course you know, the higher the hrc, the more brittle it becomes. Just sounds like a very expensive gimic, and they found a few suckers like you.

  • @hermaeusmemer7839

    @hermaeusmemer7839

    7 жыл бұрын

For it being ugly, that's completely opinion based. You think this knife is ugly? That's your opinion. I think tanto knives are ugly. That's my opinion. How ugly you think it is doesn't matter. For it being brittle, yes. It is brittle. But brittleness is not the only relevant property. The tungsten carbide / cobalt alloy used is also really damn durable, meaning you're going to have to cut something with more power than a human being can muster. On the Sandrin site it states that the TC they use has a Rockwell Hardness of 71, whereas standard TC is normally 75-82, so the knife isn't going to be as brittle as drill-bit grade TC anyway. It'll break or chip of you abuse it by bashing it or prying with it, but that is the same as with any other knife that is hard enough to hold a decent edge for a while. sandrinknives.com/faq.html Don't call me a sucker until you actually R E S E A R C H what you're tying to sound smart about.

As far as how much I would ever spend on a knife... I have no idea. I guess it depends on how successful I am in the future (and how much I like the knife, how potentially collectable it is, etc.). I buy and sell collectables that I find at auctions on the side (which is how I support my collecting of all sorts of things).

18 years of age here. A BM 940 is almost 300 bucks here in Sweden, which I found worth it. I've been let down by it twice, so I changed the omega springs to home made ones and now I trust it fully. I bought it as a tool, and I'll use it as one. It's seen everything from gutting and killing fish to sharpening pencils, opening beer bottles and stripping cables. It's worn and it will be worse.

Now I'm looking into getting an XM-18 Ideally a slicer grind or Wharnie.

30 years old as well and the most expensive is my large sebenza 21 with the rain drop damascus it was 575 from BladeHQ. However, I also own several in that range and a ton of mid to lower end knives. With a collection totaling around six to seven thousand dollars. Its a true addiction and i love it. Any one looking to- buy or trade hit me up. Oh and i dont have a limit. If i can make it happen i would prob spend 10,000 on a knife if i wanted it bad enough. **EDIT- I forgot to mention my most recent purchase! Ganzo 719 auto for a whopping $19 off amazon!! Its honestly a great knife and for that price would recommend it to anyone.

I am 21. I have around 1500$ in knives, maybe a little less, maybe a little more, some of the more expensive ones I have are vintage, nowhere to be found on the internet, not even a picture or mention so it's hard to say. Have other weapons/tools. My most expensive knife (that I know the price of) Is probably the Buck Marksman tanto stonewash version. It satisfies the 'high end' feel for me, because it is probably the smoothest action ever made on a knife, absolutely zero resistance while opening or closing due to the very weird design, and because of that satisfies the 'crazy new inventive design' ' gimmicky sorta appetite for me as well. It's also very tactical looking, a pretty nice knife for any of those three purposes. Also just got a Case Kickstart Trapperlock, about the same price.

But I'm 22, and so far the most expensive knife I have is a WE Double Helix, and it's a $285 knife. But, I would be willing to go up into the $400-$500 range. 26, Male, Most Expensive - ZT 0350. Sharp, solid and reliable. I would never spend more than $400. Knives can be (and usually are) incredibly beautiful... but my cash is more useful in other places. I hardly use my ZT enough to justify its cost to be honest, and only paid ($120.00 CDN/$92.00 USD). I really look for that perfect balance of comfort, weight, strength, quality, style and cost. I would rather just own one incredibly well rounded knife for a long time that I get a ton of value out of. I'm not a hardcore enthusiast but can appreciate quality craftsmanship and materials. I'm the same way with all of the consumer items I purchase.

I had a JAFROTC field trip and during it we ate at a small mini mall at Robbins Air force base, everything was tax free, and me and my mom had just 16 dollars left after a shopping spree and eating. I always buy a knife and spoon whereever I go on a field trip, I sadly couldnt find a spoon. So my mom made it up to me and surprised me with it. Its just a cheap Gerber and I have aspirations to get better more expensive knives. But this one is my favorite that I will never get rid of.

The top production knives are over a thousand. We are not even talking customs. Knives that are made for you. If you love the hobby and you want the high end knives you will end up paying over a thousand dollars. At the moment I’m into Rockstead knives. The one’s I have all cost over a thousand each. It's nice but I have experienced it personally and I still love production knives just as much... 21 years old, college student. My most expensive knife currently is a Bear & Son Kodiak Series Barlow (About $45-50). I did have a Cold Steel Code 4 (About $65-75), and I loved it. Unfortunately I lost it last Thanksgiving. Dream knife: Protech Godson with (Mastodon Tooth scales and Gold inlays) or a Cold Steel Pendleton Custom Classic.

This guy is brilliant. He got all of you to comment on how much you're willing to spend on a high-end knife, some $500-1000+. Now he can shop his channel to the highest cutlery sponsorship bidders. Well played sir.

Lucas here, I'm 19, and I've had multiple Bear and Son balis, one being their standard $40 version, which broke, and the other was their bear ops version, at around $90 when I got it, which I enjoyed but was unfortunately stolen when our house was robbed. That was probably the most expensive I've bought, though I'd be willing to spend more if I had the money. My end game for my edc bali is the BRS AlphaBeast 3.0, which is around $370 depending on where you buy it.

35yrs old. I spent $600 on a custom knife after saving for a while. as beautiful as the high end knives get, I've never had or seen a knife that would make me happy except for one with sentimental value. i'd spend 2K on a gun without question, but for knives there must be a 'soul' to the knife. Since i have never seen a knife 'good enough' i'm considering starting making my own instead of buying them

23 years old. My most expensive knife is a $250 fixed blade forged by one of Murray Carters Journeyman smiths, Jamison Chopp. I carry it almost everywhere and use it like it's a $50 dollar knife. It's amazing. I also rather love my handmade friction folders by Hiroaki Ohta for when a fixed blade isn't so appropriate. I have two of those. $80 and $60.

18, recent high school graduate. Most I've ever spent on a knife was $25 for a Victorinox Hiker. I'm not necessarily frugal, but that and my Mora Companion and I'm good to go. Most I would spend is $80 or $90 (I'm looking at the Ontario Rat 7, so tempted). I was gifted a Buck 110, and a really nice William Henry folder, though. I know Buck 110's go for about $40, but this one's beyond price, very sentimental. The William Henry I refuse to look up the price for out of respect (it was a gift, after all), but I know they're up there.

Boy did I love this video! I got my first knife when I was 7 by my grandfather and ever since I have had a passion for knives. I'm 20 now and working full time while going to school so I don't have money to throw. Just like you I'm into expensive stuff like cigars and guns and you're absolutely right it's all about sacrifice. My most expensive knife is a 120$ tanto folder which is my favorite style of blade. Usually if I'm getting bored of my edc I'll drop no more than 100$ and I'll try to spend that on a couple of knives. it's hard for someone like me who doesn't have alot of money but you're correct I have such a passion for knives even though most of my knives are 20$ Gerbers lol thanks so much for putting out amazing videos my man I'm such a huge fan!

I'm 13 and my most expensive blade isn"t just a knife itself, it's a Leatherman Wave multi-tool. I believe I remember buying it off the website for around $99.

I'm 42. I have a collection of knives. Ive loved knives since I was a kid, looking at my Father's knives. He gave me my first "swiss army knife" when I was about 12. I've given my 13yo daughter a small folding knife, and a good sized fixed blade. She loves them too, and treats them with respect. I'm cheap. My most expensive knife cost me $30AUD. Its a crocodile Dundee sized bowie. Its my go to for beating on and processing fire wood. Aside from a couple of tiny chips on the blade from missing wood and hitting rocks, its in great shape. I have smaller knives for bushcraft type projects, and for when carrying the huge one isnt practical. If I like a knife, I'll pay between $20-30AUD. Several of my knives cost under $20. I use them! I beat on them. Never had one break, as I know their limitations and wont deliberately torture test them. They're pretty much all Made in China. If I found an absolutely indestructible knife, it would have to be fixed blade, full tang, never need sharpening, I'd pay up to $100, or there abouts, give or take. As far as folding EDC knives, wouldnt pay more than $10-20AUD. They arent used for anything more than cutting cords, or opening boxes. You just cant do with them the same as you would do with a fixed blade. I have a bunch of them too. I just couldnt justify $1000 on a folding knife, and if I did I'd never dare use it to process fire wood.
