While also having a 5000USD camera
I went the 2nd hand enterprise workstation route. HP z600 - £80, dual Xeon x5675 CPU - £20 for both, 96gb ram from a blade server - £60 and an NVME SSD - £35. The case has all of the fans and even has a ram cooler. Designed to be ran full tilt 24hrs a day. Dual CPU and triple channel ram with an NVME for astro is 👌 and really doesn't have to cost much
I recently got a pc for astro editing too, starnet went from 7 mins to complete to about 30 seconds
Good choices, and you really kept the cost down, well done. I've gone the same route, actually I got the same case, but I've spent €5000 and went all in (at that time) and got the Rizen 9 5950X, Samsung 980 nvme's and 128GB of RAM to name. This pc was a huge boost for my processing, I used to work on a 17" laptop so you can imagine the difference... CS
Do you think M2 chip in new Macs will be good for this?
I have the PC but what about free software for someone who cant really afford adobe software? What would you recommend
What monitor? Thanks.
Why Windows and not Linux? Considering it’s a Pixinsight computer..
Hello. Need your advice . How about best laptop for astrophotography editing ?
Damn son, you got a 5000USD camera but only had 1500 for the pc
There is no reason for not buying a M1 macbook pro nowadays. Just gamechanger. And I've been on PC my whole professionnal life before that (25yrs)

A lot of it is honestly just personal preference but my experience is that you can get more bang for your buck with a pc, however a lot of people simply prefer the way that Mac OS works and flows with their programs. Having said that I use both professionally and while there are clear differences they both have their merits
