Hi Zdenka, I'm getting phenomenal battery life out of the M50 with stills, in fact it matches my 80D (which has a much larger battery). I don't shoot video, so no idea about battery life there. I have image preview turned off. We see the image before we capture it, so no need to see it afterwards (unless you feel you moved the camera or misfocused for some reason). I have my trash can button set to alternate between LCD screen and EVF. I always shoot using the EVF and use the LCD to move my focus points. I get a minimum of 1200+ shots consistently and more commonly 1600+ shots on a single charge.

That would be solution but since I have all canon lenses... I like to continue with it.... it is great camera only had to figure some things here and there... 😉

Thank you 🙏🏻 The display shutting off when my hand went near the viewfinder was driving me nuts 😵 When I first got my M50, I even thought it was defective and almost returned it to Canon. Nice tips. I've got an alternative to the quick release plates to get around the really annoying battery/card door problem. I use my M50 in a Smallrig cage. It's specifically designed for the M50 and the door opens fully. Because the whole of the bottom of the cage is the right size for an arca swiss plate you can put it on a tripod head with an arca swiss mount and be able to get in to the camera with it on the tripod. ...and yes, that screen off thing really got me annoyed before i found the setting. ...an even cheaper solution to the quick release straps that sort of works well, is to get some really small lobster clips and put them on your strap. ...also had the issue with the lens cover (especially if you have a circular nd filter on the 15-45). I found a small silicon food container cover that fits over the lens like a kurvd cover. Not as thick, so won't protect it from knocks as well, but it's doing the job ok. This one has made a massive difference.

They're terrible for their intended purpose of protecting food but are doing ok with my 15-45 lens so far: www.kickstarter.com/projects/542106477/seally-cap-set I'm still looking for a readily available version after my current ones rip/break.

Do you know what I can do if I cannot get pass the "rotate message?" My lens will not rotate into full and I can no longer take pictures

I have the Peak Design Cuff as a solution for the strap. I prefer not wearing my camera around my neck

Get the M50 housing. It’s made by a company called Smallrig. I got mine from Amazon and it allows you to add all sorts of external devices to it and also allows easy access to the battery and memory compartments without having to remove your camera from it. 😉

Quick question. I have been loving your videos. Would you recommend the m50 over the 80d? I have a tight budget so not sure which to go for. Are they're any image quality benefits to the 80d? I solely only shoot photos and do not shoot video and have no intention to. I do not vlog either. I am mainly a hobbiest but want the best quality I can get for my money. I started with a bridge Lumix fz82. Then moved to an Eos m100 which I still have and intend to keep as a backup no matter which new camera I go for. I just can't decide. Any advice would be really appreciated.

Hi Zdenka. I appreciate how you answer so quickly. I am trying to make videos with my Canon M50 by filming my tv with a firestick connected. Some will have me in the picture. Some will just be the tv with screens changing. If I use auto I have squiggly lines on it. If I go manual the print gets blurry as I shift. Do you have any videos addressing this? Thank you

I am very sorry but I don’t have experience with that at all. If you see lined out it’s probably that you need to change shutter speed

I have an M50 and a Rode Go mic. When you record video remotely via the canon camera control app on an iPhone or iPad you get terrible audio feedback making the footage unusable. Have you noticed this issue. It doesn’t happen with other mic I tried and I read that it is a problem with this mic. It looks like you have that mic as well. Have you come across any solution to this major problem. Thanks.

Thank you for your comment. If you are getting full frame cameras like that then I would slowly save up for good lenses with the lowest f stop you can get... it is worth it.

How would you rate the m50 4k video quality after you solved the problem? Is the 8bit 4:2:0 too low for colour grading plus video noise reduction ?

I dont really film much in 4K because of the massive crop and no autofocus .... otherwise I think the quality is good.

Any opinions on how to fix a banding issue with the Canon M50 with an Godox AD200 HSS, when I take photos? Or is there a way to switch from Electrical Shutter to Mechanical Shutter?

Zdenka, Love your comments and tips. Question, i have a Lavier Lapel Mic and trying to make it work with my new Canon m50, it will not work even when I set the Sound Recording to Manual mode. I have tried various adapters including mono (single pic up adapter), but nothing seems to work.

Thanks for the video Zdenka! If you were to recommend an additional lens other than the EF-M15-45mm for videography on the M50, what would it be? I want to invest in both a wide lens and a telephoto lens for my camera.

I'm recording a video at 60fps so when i play it back later at 24fps, it will look smooth. I notice that, within the M50, i can play the video on slow motion to re-watch it and it looks great. But is there a way to save it as a slow motion video file? I only see the ability to edit the length of the video and re-save it.

Unfortunately yes there is a cropped sensor. Basically you will get smaller picture. 😊🎬📸🎥

It is great for beginners. You can surely do some professional work but it however you will struggle in a little light…, To start it’s good eventually you might want to upgrade

hello, is M50 mount is strong enough to hold canon 24-105mm f4 or 24-70mm f2.8 on a tripod? i just scare it will break the lens mounting. or do you think thats mount is quite strong to hold it? thank you...

You attach your tripod to those lenses directly if they have attachment ring. Otherwise it is a strong enough yes. I don’t think they would release it if it was not strong enough. 🎥🎬😊📸

Great helpful video! I am having trouble getting an external mic to work. I have tried two different mics and one provided a loud 'white noise' sound and the other provides no sound whatsoever. I have set the audio recording setting to 'Manual', but I still get nothing. Have you had this problem as well?

I’m sorry to hear that. I didn’t change anything and I keep everything on automatic when it comes to sound. Take it to a store to see if everything is OK with the camera. 😊📸🎥🎬 Or do a factory reset.

Zdenka Darula I’m waiting patiently for an M50 version of ML to access Shutter lock. I don’t like the way the M50 uses up on the directional pad to change from shutter to aperture. Thank you for your kind reply! ❤️

It is the way it works. Canon only allows 30 min with this camera unfortunately.... have a great weekend. 🤔🌅🌞

Thanks for this. I am finding taking still photos in low light condition with AF very difficult. The camera refuses to click! I tried MF but that's not a great option. Any tips?

Use flash light to focus.... half press... remove flash light and click.... if you shoot in very low light sometimes it happens with any camera. You should hear me sometimes when I have the problem at wedding reception when people dance and lights go dark.... I always get frustrated... even wigh my DSLR... try that... I'll look into it though. I haven't tested M50 in low light yet... but video will be coming very soon about it.

Which flash do you recommend for use with the M50?

I have subscribed to your channel, cos I love your style. Have had my M50 for approx 4 weeks, bought the canon adaptor. I have a tamron lens 28-300mm suitable for canon which I use on my Mk 111 dslr, but it does not seem compatible with the M50 using the adaptor. Do you know if it is only canon lenses that can be used?. I am also interested in a fisheye lens particularly for the M50, even though I know it has a designated fisheye setting. What would be your thoughts about it.? Many thanks for your helpful videos, I shall be watching more of them.

Thank you very much for your comment. You can use other lenses with this camera. I have seen users sharing their experience with Nikon, Sigma lenses... it works. If you like fish eye look and want the lens, why not? Have fun with your camera. 🤗🏖

Make sure it is all the way in if it is not working test the microphone with different camera to see if the mic is broken 📹📱📽📽
