My BEST Titled Arena (thanks to changing one simple setting)

In this video, I experiment with turning on Zen Mode for an entire tournament and end up having my best ever performance in a lichess Titled Arena. Zen mode is a setting on lichess that hides the opponent's rating and username. Timestamps Below!

Eric's top priorities, in that order: 1. funny stalemate 2. stalemate 3. pawn cube 4. pawn diamond 5. connect four 6. oh no my queen 7. funny lines 8. full stacked files 9. porked checkmates 10. ducktics (duck tactics) 11. just winning in chess

Best comment I've seen in a long while.
"I stopped caring who my opponents were. I just tried to focus on like playing good chess" Such a great analogy for life.
Can you imagine how much easier life would be if you can apply "Zen mode"? No competing against others. But just trying to make the next best move in life. If only there was an app for that.

7:35 Eric goed from ‘I have no idea what to do’ in a losing position to absolutely crushing opponent with enormous strength and speed. The draw doesn’t take anything away from that for me. I have rarely been more impressed by anyone. Hats off to Eric!

Eric, I love how you lose. You're my favourite chess streamer and I see you as an invincible (although I know its not the case) and its humbling to see you lose a few games and win the others. It's great to watch you whilst you stream and play. You're great, thank you for your content Mr Rosen!
I have watched a few other chess players on YT, but only for a little while. There is a big difference with you, Eric, and I think I worked out what it feels like: you play for enjoyment. I get a real sense of enjoyment from you when playing - esp when you "just had to do the 4 pawn wall coz it looks cool" kind of thing. Now you just need to have Zen mode off when OTB and play as if Zen mode is still on. Congrats on top 30 and rating upgrade.
49:51 "oh no my queen! Wait actually oh no" xD
32:07 Eric Rosen summaries my whole chess career in one sentence....
I really want to see how top GMs end up performing, see if there really is a "Magnus" effect!
At around 1:17:25, he muses, "... where did all my pieces go?" Priceless and such a down-to-earth and great player.
46:02 the "unavoidable" Rosen trap!
I think this is your most entertaining Titled Arena as well. It was really cool how you guessed their rating and the reaction to how close you were. Very cool and fun!
In Japan, people build "dojos" do&jo means "the practice of the way", a dojo is a place made to avoid as many distractions as possible while practicing your craft, dojos are the real life "zen mode".

Makes me think that for Japanese TaiKai, there should be a divider so the competitors can't actually see how well the other is performing their cuts.
Love this mix of titled arena and guess the elo
30:59 there was mate in 4 for white. b5+, axb5, cxb5+, if Kxc5 then Na4#, otherwise if Kc7 then Ne8+ sac, then after rook is forced to take Rd7#.
I love the classical chess streams from Eric, they're the best
I thought the title said, "tilted arena" and I was like holy same bro.
The HR monitor is nice touch that sets this channel above the rest. Definitely cool to see and helps people understand why chess players can burn thousands of calories in a match. These bullet games are like walk a lap, sprint a lap at the track. Do you study the graphs of your HR data you’ve captured?
@adrianali422
Жыл бұрын
they burn calories on par with any other sedentary activity, if they burn 1000 calories its bc the game was like 7-10 hours the stress aspect still only equates to a slightly higher caloric expenditure
Nice work Eric.
That performance rating is incredible.
Stafford ended with a stalemate has gotta be the most Rosen thing ever
Whenever I try to analyze lines and the engine suddenly starts loading forever, I lose my zen mode
Can you say what rating they had out loud every time next time, hard to read on mobile. Great video, well played 👌💪
you can toggle Zen mode on or off just by pressing Z letter on your keyboard 👍
Love that mug! Is it a Pendleton?
damn im impressed that u got most of the ratings down to the 100s.
Eric going into SVT in some these time crunches
eric rosen’s response to “guess the Elo”
"I spent all my time and blundered all my pieces" Rosen is stealing my strategy 🤨
44:14 Stafford Gambit ending with Stalemate - Classy!
Knowing those facts about the opponant can also be useful though. Certain winning tricks for instance only work on lower rated players.

How was the first game a draw when Eric flagged? Edit: noticed this happened more than once, does it matter what material is left or something?

Yes, 'timeout vs insufficient material (for checkmate)' is a draw
Thx for labeling all the games in your video! Was there potential to take a free pawn on d4 at 22:30?
@diamondshock4405
Жыл бұрын
I don’t think that’s actually free because if Qxd4 then Nb3 and any viable queen response allows exd5 cxd5 and Nxd5, or possibly an immediate f4 and white’s attack is just overwhelming
Oh that's genius
Has Eric ever won his first game in a "my best titled arena" video he has made yet?
I'm not a very good chess player but why couldn't the opponent go knight c6 at 7:03 ?

@@lkjlkjlkjlkjk1079 Nah, not even close. You don't know who Rey Enigma is, but he is consistently the same person. So while you can't put a name to the player, you do know the more abstract "the player" you are playing against - and really that is all that matters.
Good afternoon!
Eric's performance was 2882, which is the highest rating ever achieved by Magnus. Coincidence ?
At 13:04 doesn’t Ne2 just win the queen? Think you missed it!!

Now good sir, perchance tell me why the beautiful Queen (Greetings, m'lady) cannot simply take the knight, and thus dodging the ever-piercing glare of our royal queen? This is the conclusion of my comment, and I hope to have imparted upon you something of value, for we all should, nay must, value knowledge above all else, lest the world cast its eyes upon the abyss and tumble into anarchy, chaos, fire, ice, rage, jealousy, deceit, incest and above all others, make sure you have when it is come to be
