Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

thanks for watching ✨ For the 3rd year in a row, we sit down and talk about my money goals for the new year! I think this might be one of my fave videos to film... it is so grounding and refreshing to set these goals, know that they will take time, but that they are achievable. This year, I wanted to focus on PRACTICAL and REALISTIC goals that will motivate me and that I can stick to. They all surround saving, investing, debt repayment, lifestyle creep, sinking funds and more. I hope you enjoy!!

It warms my heart hearing you excited for 2023. My first video I ever found of yours was your “I Lost My job” video (right when it came out). I remember your Florida trip at the top of 2022 was refreshing for you but you felt like you didn’t deserve it or that you couldn’t do it. Your journey within the last year has inspired me and it’s so great to know that this upcoming Florida trip, you do feel good and you do know that you deserve it. I got dumped the last day of 2022 and you really are my safe space for just a cup of coffee and a chat from a friend. Thanks for always cheering me up! ❤️🙏. Cash envelopes are king 😂

You're absolutely right about money/budgets being a personal thing. Everyone's circumstances are different. Some people have more money, some people have less. We just need to do the best we can with what we have.

This was so fun!! And it's so soo lovely seeing how excited your are for 2023. My financial goals for 2023 have the overarching theme of finding a balance between saving and purposeful spending. In 2022 I had a lot of big purchases, but they were important things like getting another pair of work shoes or going to the dentist, and then I recently started allowing myself to have a treat day where I go book shopping. So I want to mainly find a balance between those areas of my life, lol but specifically: 1. Pay my dentist bill of $2,188 by march 2 so I can schedule my wisdom tooth extraction 2. Save $2,210 in my emergency fund 3. Have a sinking fund for mental health days/ treats (lol mainly book shopping XD and I want to go horseback riding this year) 4. I want to find various charities to regularly support (like sponsoring an animal at a rescue, or during Christmas time I usually will buy a basket of books to donate, and I would just like to allocate more to giving to my community, and just people in general year round) 5.I want to take time to better educate myself on money (mainly investing, and just any questions I have about money I want to take more initiative to find answers) 6. and this is/isn't a goal I suppose, but I want first shop small and support artists and creators (like buying books from more local shops, or if I need clothes coffee etc seeking out more businesses to support) 7. I want to start a savings account of at least $1,000 to start saving for moving abroad (it's been a big dream of mine and I'd like 2023 to be the year I start making small steps toward it) lol Sorry! My comments are always sooo long! But I wish everyone luck, and I know we will reach our goals this year

I would take your emergency fund now and completely pay off your LOC, then focus on getting that fund back up to 4k and go 50/50 between that and the car afterwards. The LOC is just burning money for interest when you have the money sitting there. Just my opinion lol

Zoe, I'm so happy you've found a budget method that you love! EQ bank just launched in Quebec, and they have a 2.5% interest on savings and higher on GICs, so it could be a good option for your emergency fund. It's also great because you can open 5 buckets within your account so you can keep sinking funds separate and set goals for each if you want to.

I am 1000% with you on writing goals (and other things) down on paper. It makes them more concrete, and it’s also helpful for my cluttered mind to get them out of my brain and onto paper. One of my goals for 2023 is also to be completely one month ahead on my fixed expenses. I’ve been trying to do this for many months, but I’m hopeful that this year is gonna be the year that my husband and I achieve this goal. I love that you’re embracing cash envelopes and sinking funds. They’re such helpful tools for working toward our money goals. I’m excited to be on this journey with you.

Those are some pretty awesome goals for the year. Another easy but rewarding one you could add is opening up a new FHSA (The new first home savings account) account and put w/e you want it when they come out in April. The reason why you wanna open it this year is because the yearly 8000$ max contribution only carry forward once the account is open. Also, if you like the feeling you get when you see number progressions in your different goals, your net worth could be a fun one to track. Keep up the good work with your financial videos - they are solid and I'm sure a lot of watchers benefit from them!

Hey Zoe! You mentioned having a tendency of going hard at something and wanting to be more balanced *I have the same problem*. It might be helpful for you to take the amount you want for your emergency fund and divide it by the number of months to make sure you can achieve your goal by the end of 2023 and then you can see what you would have leftover to put toward your debt or vice versa. This way, you are putting something toward both and can see slow progress in each category without feeling like something is lacking attention. I learned this from working with a budget coach and still struggle with it. You mentioned they are both equally important. Love your videos :)

Hello, I’ve just stumbled across your channel yesterday and have watched 3-4 videos on finances and love it! One of my goals for January was to learn more about personal/household finances. I had searched quickly for Canadian sources but didn’t find anything great and yesterday I opened KZread and one of your videos popped up, I didn’t even search. I love the idea of having designated accounts for each thing you’re saving for. I learned the term lifestyle creep and really need to cut it. I have to work on that and pay some debt off and then focus on building those savings. What’s a sinking fund?

  • @ZoePritchard

Hey!! That is amazing, I swear the KZread algorithm reads minds 🙈 A sinking fund is an account with a certain amount kept in it at all times (ideally). So if you take money from the account you aim to repay it quickly.

Loved this video and your money goals for 2023. I actually just uploaded a video on emergency funds - and from the research for that video I can tell you that almost 1/3 of all Americans want to finally fill up their emergency fund this year. And I think the numbers are similar in other countries as well. It seems to be the year for it. So, good luck and hope you achieve your goal 💸 Regarding your dilemma of paying off your debt or building up your emergency fund even more, I actually agree with you - My personal opinion is: You already have 4k saved up (which is already an achievement so congrats! And I suppose there is no one else dependant on you for your income at the moment, just you). If you feel pretty comfortable with that and not super stressed about not having more money in your emergency fund - I would also pay off the Line of Credit first because of the high interest and because it's a pretty low amount that can be tackled in a couple of months. After that I would also split between the car payments and emergency fund. 😊

I think choosing between your Debt and Savings is hard. I'm in the same boat. Personally, I think as long as you have a little money put away for a rainy day, you'll be ok. Like for medical, tires for your car, a phone....ect. You never know what could happen. So as long as you have a little savings like that. I say pay off your debt. 🙂🌻

Have you considered using your emergency to pay off your whole credit card now? Then do the $750/month to your EF for 3 months to get back to $4K saved, then you could focus on your car/both Just an option since you'll save on interest! Awesome goals though Zoe, I'm looking forward to watching your year!

You can get a better HISA rate in Canada but maybe not in Quebec. EQ Bank is at 2.5% right now but they don't offer in Quebec, Tangerine has a 5% promo right now until end of April. Simplii was also like 4.85% last time I checked. I would definitely shop around for a better HISA than 1.5%

Money never ever comes to my mind when I adopted my dog 2 years ago, and it broke the @ss up of my savings for Law School 🥹 I was not happy but I'm happy that I have a baby, well a four-legged baby. I was impulsive on buying her toys, things she really didn't need plus she's a raw fed--- we're doing fine then until her health scare 💸💸💸 bi-weekly vet visits and the need to put her on therapeutic diet + her nutritionist (monthly). So, my 2023 financial goal is to replenish everything that is gone from my savings and save up for her emergency fund! 😂❤

Genuine question: do credit card perks exist in Canada to the same extent that they do in the US? I never use cash and I'm always that friend that is like "oh I'll pay and you can Venmo me" so I get the credit card points. I like the idea of cash envelopes, but also getting anywhere from 1.5-5% back on every purchase is really nice.

i feel that! we dooo have credit card perks but not the the same extent US cards have. My american express card does give me some good perks, so i will use it for big purchases but in the end, for me, because I can’t control my spending as much with card its just not worth it… for now at least

And it doesnt mean doing those things I just mentioned are bad, just means you wont benefit in terms of saving from your new salary. Enjoy you dance classes - you deserve it 💖
