My 2004 Toyota Celica VVTI - What's it like?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is just a little video I shot "on the hop" to show you my 2004 Toyota Celica 7th gen with the 143bhp VVTI engine. Not a review.
I love this little car - granted, it's nothing special, but you can have a lot of fun in it because it handles well (30mm lowering springs), sounds nice, has a nice interior and a brilliant driving position. Plus, you know what they say - it's better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slowly....

It's a nice place to sit. It's a bit plasticky for some people but I've always liked it. Some cars have a "feeling" being just right, this is definitely one of them for me.

Beautiful cars. I’m after one of these as a first car because I can get insurance on it (190HP model) for cheaper than an Ibiza etc. I’m guessing it’s because it’s a more obscure choice for a young driver

Nice choice for a first car - they're reasonably quick, handling is great. Just make sure you watch out for rust on the sills (easy to take the plastic covers off and flush them out as they get tons of dirt trapped inside) and the rear subframe tends to go too. If you can get one that's been undersealed previously... no worries. Just check the MOT histories for corrosion advisories before you buy, and take a torch. Age of the cars that's all 🙂 There are plenty of decent ones.

@@BlackLinesI’m hoping to find one without rust. Old jap cars love to rust unfortunately. If i do find a nice one my first job will be a fresh under seal. I think it’s worth every penny on these cars

I really liked the styling of these at launch. I think they still look good but as Toyota never made a GT4 I doubt they will ever be held in as high regard as some of the older models. As a fun and stylish FWD sports coupe though you could do far worse. Cabin is nice and I really like that instrument cluster. I think these are one of the cars that look far better with that boot spoiler too, like the MK2 MR2 they look a bit odd without one. This one was a real bargain and shows that you don't need to spend a lot of money to get something interesting.

totally agree about the spoiler - in fact I've only seen one that I liked without a spoiler and it was on this video watch?v=gi2wv3MCfSo (at 5:20)

They are such cool looking cars. Still tempted as my next project. What's it like getting in and out? My back's getting a little stiff now i'm the wrong side of 50 🤣

I reckon if you can get in and out of the MR2 you'd have no problem with the Celica. Just leave your dignity at home and it will all be fine I'm sure...

@@BlackLines J-Spec is just up the road from us so spares are not an issue. Andy there recons rust is the only real issue. Fancy a 2ZZ (190bhp) to see what its like compared with the 1ZZ in the MR2. Roof down you just step in and out of the 2, simples 😀

@@midlifemotors5050 yes - rust was starting on mine (I had to get the sills welded) so I had it all treated and undersealed so it should be good for a while yet - MOT in a month so I'll get to know for sure :) .. mine is the 1ZZ and it is what it is as I'm sure you know with the MR2... seems to open up around 4k rpm but is by no means powerful. Just enough to feel quick enough though. I would love to try a 2ZZ - I've heard that they're a bit tricker to keep in "lift" compared to VTEC on Hondas. Seems that the power band is slightly narrower so it's easier to fall out of it when shifting up.

no idea what happened to it, but it's rivetted in so a bit of a ballache to change out - not that I've tried heh
