Thanks for taking your time looking at this. Great work 👏
I have the MXR Vintage Bass Octave - a fairly faithful reproduction of the classic Boss OC-2 - and I *LOVE* it! I've also got the Bass Envelope Filter, which is awesome as well. Keep up the great work, excellent video!
Nate & Lee are just the best combo for us bass players! Love their vids!
I love my MXR Bass chorus deluxe pedal - love it for 80s synth sounds.
I really like the sound of the MXR bass pedals, the fuzz, overdrive and distortion are great staples as well and the envelope filter is great for some cool, funky stuff
Thanks, this was really helpful. I just bought a Tech 21 Bass Fly Rig 2 that has an Octaver/Envelope Filter/Fuzz section and I am still playing around with it to get the best sounds. Going through the pedals one by one, really helped to hear what a dedicated pedal for those effects sounds like and then the jam at the end, when combining them. So definitely gives me a better understanding on how to use those three alone and together. Also helpful with to hear the Fuzz, Overdrive and Distortion side by side. I've always been a little confused on what the difference is between them, so hearing them one after the other gives me a better understanding of their subtle differences. Thanks!
I love running the envelope filter sub octave and overdrive together
I only watch these videos for Lee and Nathan. I am not ever in the market for bass gear, you guys are awesome!
M87 compressor is the only pedal on my board that's always on.
Nice video. Great work guys! My only comment regarding the pedals’ order is that you should have begun with the Octave right after the Preamp; and had the Env Filter after the distortion. So many sounds could’ve been done mixing & matching them in this order. Cheers guys
The fuzz with the rest is top notch!
I’ve had a lot of great luck with MXR. I use their OD, octave and envelope filter. Only improvement they could make is putting into the jacks in the top to save room. Other than that, I love em!
I've owned all these except the Thump. Big fan of the Overdrive and the Envelope Filter (plus the octave, but on guitar more than bass); the Distortion isn't really my sound, and didn't get on with the fuzz at all. The M81 Bass Preamp is a really useful pedal, but I gave mine to a friend when I got my Tech21 DI-2112.
Love my MXR Sub Octave Bass Fuzz.
MXR - still the goat! Can’t live without my M87/M76 🔥
I just love the Pre Amp
The overdrive is something that could get used in my studio, and possibly the pre with the DI out
Bass pre and filter are still tops!
I'm the fan of Fuzz, Overdrive and Distortion. I recommend to get the Bass Fuzz Deluxe for Spit Out The Bone bass solo
The MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe was also really awesome. Another bonus shout out to the Compressor… Cheers, all!
Gotta get the m81 and distortion for me passive Basses 🔥💯🔥
Why did you have the MXR Thump at the end of the pedal chain? I would think it would be before or right after the Bass preamp pedal.
Ive listened to a few base reviews on this channel, and i must say, Lee is a very talented base player, but sadly didn't play on this review! Both players are awsome
Where are the MXR Bass Compressor and MXR Bass Chorus? Those would be my first two purchases for Bass effects followed by the overdrive & the octave.
Enjoyed the video guys thanks, one wee thing, maybe just maybe the knob twiddler could do with a wee hand from Pete's knob twiddler. 😂😂👍🥃Respect to you fellas.
Rubarb and Custard theme music? Amazing tune
The little nubby green one on the end reminds me of that sausage on that cartoon movie where they were stuck inside the grocery store.
oh yeah you can't beat a bit of that Roobarb and Custard sound

Haha! Well spotted! 🤩
I have the M87, it’s good. Unfortunately I didn’t hear much I liked in this demo.
The Octave and fuzz should be running into the filter, would sound so much better
I have the distortion and it's amazing for delightfully disgusting metal bass tones. That almost endless sustaining growl when it rings out makes it worth it alone.
No, I bought the MXR Bass Distortion. It sounded terrible (just as it does in this video) on bass, it did sound good with a Les Paul but since I am a bassplayer it had to go.
I thot I wanted an envelope filter, but that one just goes up, like an auto wah. I want to go down. I guess it doesn’t do both. Nope to mxr. Thanks for the info.

I've kinda learned that the MXR bass lineup is rather disappointing. I'd definitely point you in the direction of Aguilar and Darkglass though
A classic never dies
What no compressor?

Ironically, that's the only pedal I want from MXR's bass lineup
So... Anderton's Music and Jewelry Exchange?
I´d would have really liked to see the bass chorus :/ but anyways nice video
Bass effects have come a long way in s short time, which I think is thanks to companies like Darkglass really making good bass effects that made companies realize that we wanted cool effects too! They all seem to really be well geared toward bass frequencies. I didnt feel like any one of them were just guitar pedals but with bass in the name

Darkglass are VERY late to the party and cater to a very limited audience - so I'd disagree with your statement. EBS, MXR, EHX - hell - even Markbass and Ashdown - waaaayyyyy ahead of Darkglass on the bass effects train.

Maybe just personal preference I guess but I just never felt like bass effects were great at preserving bass tone until after the popularity of Darkglass became evident to pedal makers. Darkglass definitely focuses on the more gainy side of bass playing, but the quality seemed to increase across the board after that. All of those companies I felt like they were more of a novelty for bass players rather than serious tools. Just what I felt though. Obviously not how everyone feels

@@DarrenSMusic lemme guess, you think they're just for metal? And none of those others make bass preamps that have the zing of darkglass
@DarrenSMusic

@@ileutur6863 Not at all... Darkglass are MARKETED towards rock/metal for the most part but we know they aren't a one trick pony, but the more 'modern' sounding bass tones are the ones that people look to Darkglass for even though they have vintage based offerings. That 'zing' I believe you are referring to is just a modern type thing - top end, grit etc.
Did you really have to slap all through the Bass Thump.
I think the Bass Envelope Filter is great, but I took it off my pedalboard--it's only applicable for funk and some house music (octave pedal required). I'm not a fan of the fuzz, overdrive and distortion--they sound fizzy to me. I feel there's better stompboxes on the market in the relatively same price range.

no bass compressor... come on, MXR

That mxr compressor makes a universe of difference
Turn up your volume, I have my phone up all the way.
All their drives sound really muffled, really ugly high end that I feel kinda kills the point of using overdrive in the first place
The overdrive, distortion and fuzz are horrible
you WILL listen to me know the knowledge -the voice of my reason - you must stand up when you jam ( digress at times ) the new bass color must be red apple shiny ass hell - the dual pick ups on the bass guitar is going to be shiny silver not black plastic - can u imagine it ? and when rebea M. plays blues he must use a fender type plaid looking guitar cable THINK steven tyler uses scarfs to decorate - rabea needs a pastel plaid type colorful chord when playing blues -

Oh god, not these idiots again….
Being a classic country/M.O.R./classic rock/Blues Bassist, to me there is absolutely no need for distortion/fuzz/overdrive on a bass at anytime, ever. They all sounded like garbage.

I like a splash of overdrive here and there and it definitely has it's purpose, but MXR's overdrive sounds like a crappy distortion pedal. I get what you're saying about heavy distortion and fuzz on bass though, really just sounds like poop. Not my cup of tea either
