    I don't break. I start a horse. Sometimes I rope him in a round pen to begin. But most times join up and follow through in the round pen. Once he views me as the trusted leader then we go through the ground work basics. We take the time it takes. Sometime during this process he will accept the rope halter with confidence. The groundwork basics take care of many things without addressing those specific things. Again, it is a process. The horse will 'tell' me if I am communicating clearly, if I am going too fast, if I need to break the process down into smaller steps, if I am asking for to much in a period of time, etc.

    Once the horse focused his attention on the man who walked up and was eye to eye with him it made it easier for the other man to slip that halter oh him. Lesson learned, it might make the haltering easier if they find a distraction for the to concentrate on even if just for a few seconds. Ya think maybe?

    This facility is a BLM facility in Paul's Valley, OK. There are several long term containment facilities that hold regular adoption events. Check out the wild horse and burro section on the BLM website. Best of luck to you!

  • @morsmanh

    @morsmanh

    6 жыл бұрын

    AnžeStrnad it is both. The adoption fee is $125 for most animals. There is an application you must fill out and must get approval from the BLM. I brought a completed application to the adoption facility and they approved me on site. I was then able to choose the horse I wanted to adopt. You pay the adoption fee and you are then good to go.

    jose mendoza cardozo when you halter break an untouched horse leaving the horse with a halter and rope is one of the most effective, efficient, and least stressful ways you can do so. The horse will step on the rope creating pressure on the nose, the horse learns pretty quickly to stop and take a step back to release the pressure. That effectively trains the horse to stop to pressure
