Themi favored I love 4c natural hair. I think it’s beautiful. I’m just in awe of how tightly curled it is. It’s silky when straightened but I’m a fan of curly. There’s just something about big hair. I straightened mine a couple times and I don’t think I look right. It changed my facial features.

@inkenhafner7187

I'm not PoC and not a native English speaker... maybe you can help me? Why is extremely curly hair called "kinky"? To me "kinky" means something that is kind of nasty and doesn't belong into public and I just can't imagine why anybody would use that do describe hair (as long as it grows on your head, that is). Especially their own...
@Cluckhead2
3 жыл бұрын
@@inkenhafner7187 : The definition of Kinky is as follows : in small tight curls. There is no attribution to any thing remotely 'nasty.' Your doing so, speaks to the influence of racism/white supremacy that you are apparently under.
@inkenhafner7187
3 жыл бұрын
@@Cluckhead2 First of all: if I offended you or anybody with my question I'm really and seriously sorry! When I take a look into my dictionary and put the word "kinky" into three translation machines I get ONE and only one translation: Pervers (perverted). I'm no native English speaker, I only know the word "kinky" for very curly hair from YT-channels like this. Names for things don't fall out of the sky, someone chose them. And maybe there is another language in which "kinky" means something totally different and positive. I wondered and that's why I asked. Here some people call 4c hair "kraus", which can have a rather harmless meanings but in many situations it has a very negative edge... then it's used to describe unkempt appearance, unironed clothes, hair frizz, referring to things people think or say it even means insane or stupid. And racist people here actually use it as an insult towards Afroeuro and African people... So I won't use it. Then again we have minorities that were once offended and outcast with certain names... and they started to use those names themselves to tell: "you can't offend us with this anymore!" Which rocks. White supremacists are all over the place, on both sides of the pond. And I've been questioning, pondering, rethinking habits and language "that is just like that" for decades to NOT be a Nazi or White Supremacist. And when I wonder why Afroamericans are calling supercurly hair "kinky" I ask. And if possible I ask Afroamericans about it and not some right wing white old men. Seems to be the wrong approach and offensive in a way I do not understand.
@inkenhafner7187
3 жыл бұрын
@@Cluckhead2 you are probably just rolling your eyes or think I'm stupid. But being called a racist more or less really hit me hard - and I needed to see if I'm biased in a way and have to work on my views and ideas. I found this, it's right at the start of the abstract: racism.org/articles/basic-needs/employment/7862-who-told-you-your-hair-was so I'm not the only one who wonders and ponders. And obviously the first person who ever had 4c was not born with a tag saying: "This hair is called kinky now and forevermore! Jehova/Mother Nature" Whatever, on the way to that abstract I came across quite a few other good reads and learned a little bit more about US-history, from the view of enslaved people and those who were part of the civil rights movement of the 1960. And about the great art of hair care in Western Africa in the 19th century... which closes the circle to this video and channel in many ways, because this is the heritage...at it's best. And now the stupid white supremacist bitch is done with writing what probably nobody cares to read and reply to anyway.
