I really don't think Sevenfold get enough credit for just how musically varied they've always been. They've never quite fit directly into a single genre, and while Waking The Fallen is one of the best Metalcore albums ever recorded, it's so much more than just a Metalcore album. They've always been so musically diverse, and I genuinely think that aspect of their music just isn't talked about enough.

That's a dope top 5! All those songs are bangers. Mine would look something like: #1. Second Heartbeat #2. Buried Alive #3. Beast and the Harlot #4. Save Me #5. A Little Piece of Heaven But it changes all the time. Except for Second Heartbeat which is my all time favourite A7X song and it has been since high school so 😅

I'm so glad you mentioned how the solo fits into the narrative! That's one of the aspects I've always loved about this song because a lot of the time solos are just added to a song for fun, but I love how in this song the solo is integral to the song!

Everyone reacting to this song at the beginning is like.. “Oh, this is very different from your typical Avenged Sevenfold stuff.” -strums as it transitions to a heavier instrumental- “They’re they are.” 😏

For me, this song is a fkkn masterpiece man. Such a good song with that theatre-like western vibes

Every riff and melody on this album is so damn catchy its really impressive for a metal band.

This is my absolute favourite avenged song. And the “seeing the killing in the solo” is also what I’ve always imagined 😂

I still amazed with how good they are in making the music tells the story. The ending make it more GRANDE imo

Fuck yes, great track. City of Evil really is such a belter of an album. Once again, and with this track done we're one closer, asking for Betrayed! Some great guitar work and Matt's best vocals imo.

I always believed the vengeful hero was actually a woman. Towards the end you can faintly hear Matt say "that's all she wrote" as in the whole story was being read off a note that was left behind. That being said, it is hard to hear so it could very well be " that's all he wrote"

“That’s all she wrote” is also a very famous quote, and phrase. While it refers to a Woman, it’s been used in many different types of stories and sentences that may not be portrayed by a woman. But, if it is in the perspective of a Woman, it’s pretty cool!

@@BP21_ smart take, I wrote a comment way later than you about even if it's a nod to the Murder, She Wrote TV show, that still implies it was a woman, considering that show's protagonist was a woman. The careful writing and sinning on it heavily implies that too.

@@argenis2 yes but it’s been used outside of that context frequently when not referring to women or having a woman say the line. Many blue collar workers use “and that’s all she wrote” when completing a task successfully.

I might be wrong, but the official lyrics say "she". I always interpreted it as being sung from the pov of the killer, reading the note left by the vengeful woman, which would mean she failed her vengeance and joined her family in death.

Ive seen all of your A7X reactions, and ive been a long time fan of them, listening to all of their songs several times. What i wanted to say is, you still bring something intresting to the table, seing all these layers of music, it helps me get the song structures, and what going on even more, and that is what i look for with my favorite songs, to get a new perspective on the song, by what the reactor got to say and break down, yeah just wanted to thank you, for doing so to the songs, great job!!

It's the solo for me...this song as a whole is great, but the breakdown/solo is what does it for me🔥🤘🏼🖤

If braveheart had a metal/hard rock soundtrack this would definitely be part of it. Certain symphonic parts of this song remind me so much of the music in that movie.

​@dillzilla4454 100% agree, Not Ready to Die is definitely a close second for me but it is such a great song. Cod, and more specifically zombies, is where I learned about the band so songs like Not Ready to Die, Carry on, Shepherd of Fire, and more recently Mad Hatter all hold a special place in my heart. Sherwood is one of the best metal song writers/players and honestly I'd love to see Alan react to some of his stuff, speaking of zombies maybe 115 or Beauty of Annihilation those are always a good starting point, but that is probably just wishful thinking on my end lol.

Based on how this song is written, this song is actually about a woman, especially since taking out the "murder, she wrote" reference at the end, they switched it to "that's all she wrote", heavily implying it was a her that wrote that story before dying, keeping in topic with the murder she wrote protagonist being a woman.
