FYI, that Flamengo guitar solo at the end is played by Papa Gates (Syn's Father) at the first part, then Syn played at the second part, and then they played togheter for the rest.

Papa Gates also makes a few appearances in other A7X songs after City of Evil. Can't remember which ones off the top of my head. I think one was a B-side song and one was on The Stage.
Love the subtle "rattlesnake" feel that Rev does on the hi-hats in this song. He always found ways to be unique.

Fun fact: Syn’s dad, Brian Haner Sr. (aka Guitar Guy) performed on this track as well.

And almost every album at least one song. I was sad he wasnt on LIBAD
I believe the acoustic solo at the end is Brian Haner and Brian Haner Jr (Gates). Freaking tasty riff.

The drums are just out of this world. Jimmy always killed it on the drums. RIP REV ❤
Avenged has absolutely admitted they had waaaaay too much they were trying to do on this album 😂 absolutely nobody should have been shocked by Life is but a dream. Everything was already there
The most underrated A7X song. They've never played it live, basically for the reasons you said with how weird and hard the transitions are but it's definitely one of their more unique songs ever just with the fast acoustic second half and piano fills, it's really not similar to any other A7X song imo
Oh man this is one of my favorite albums of all time. Sidewinder is epic. I love M Shadows vocals on this album. I love Burn it Down, MIA, The Wicked End. The Rev’s drumming will be revered on this album forever.

Sidewinder is such an underrated song, as a kid I probably listened to it just as much if not more than Bat Country or Beast and the Harlot

"Game over" gave me a "city of evil" vibe since the first tmie, and I loved it! People act live A7X had never experimented with new things. On their traxx podcast they talk about the hate this album got at first haha now it's such a classic!

I remember when I first heard “Bat Country” when it came out. It reminded me of 80’s shred metal. It was different from “Waking the Fallen”, but I was hooked on it.
One does not simply underestimate City of Evil

This is one of those bands that have hidden gems spread out thru their catalog. This song is golden!
Jimmy's double kick at ~3:20 in the video is my favourite part of the song. It's just so fucking good.
An absolute masterclass in vocal harmonies.
They have never actually played this song live! Next suggestion from me, would 100% be Save Me! I am producer as well, and to me, that is a juggernaut of a song! Probably my fav from these guys! The Rev was my inspiration to learn how to play drums, but I still listen to this cool a$$ band!
Keep em coming, the amount of experimental melodical harmonic thingys happening in those old a7x songs are treats for my ears
This was the album that introduced me to A7X.. I used to play Burnout Revenge and Beast and the Harlot was part of the soundtrack. Home internet access was just becoming a thing here in Mexico, so I would search for this album on Limewire and Ares and spent HOURS downloading each song. Then I got in love with M.I.A. and Strenght of the World. Betrayed, Sidewinder, Blinded in Chains, The Wicked End.. THERE IS NOT A SINGLE BAD SONG IN THIS WHOLE ALBUM. Ever since then, I've been a MASSIVE fan of these guys. I know there are way more complex, more famous or more technical bands out there, but for me A7X will foREVer be the BEST band ever. 🦇💀👑
1:55 bro is moaning for some M. SHADOWS!! 🪬

I love seeing this song as recommendations because it is underrated
i you think city of evil is a masterpiece, you should check out the diamonds in the rough album.... that one is insanely good and underrated.
Such an underrated song and one of my favorites. It takes on so many twists and turns and is so catchy and makes me feel as if I’m a snake slithering around looking for my next victim. Then the acoustics and the drums at the end is one of the best outros from A7X. Glad to see you were grooving to the beat as I always do when I listen to this. 😁 Your reaction was everything!
you have to try The Stage, Trashed and Scattered, Save Me, or Requiem for the next!✌ keep your great work doing dude! i love your content and love your reaction too!🔥
7:20 my thoughts exactly! I was only 5 when City Of Evil dropped, so it was nice to witness the same kind of meltdown now that people notoriusly had when CoE dropped lol. I get it though, Waking the Fallen and CoE are miiiiles apart, so i can only imagine what it was like to listen to CoE for the first time as a fan in 2005

Maybe You're ready for Exist from The Stage Album, but i suggest Save Me from Nightmare Album first They're long, unique, catchy, and sending messages
One of my favorite songs of all time. Especially the guitar solos at the end.
I really like the way you do this! You clearly have a lot of knowledge, but it's still very accessible for beginners as well!
I love all of their albums cause all of them trow something new to the table, and it’s like listening to something different all the time, I listen to one of their songs and I focus on different things and it’s like listening to a completely different thing.
I LOVE your A7X videos - your reaction is like me when I first listened to them, and your breakdown is what I would like to do if I had your ear and gear!
Hoho this is what I'm subscribe for, this made my day, ur reaction also make me happy and i got some little part everywhere i didn't know exist in this song from this breakdown!
I love your genuine reaction
This was definitely the track in my album playthrough that pulled the rug out from under me and piqued my interest after all the singles wore me down in the first half. Wild that the song about being poisoned ends up being the most refreshing track on the album.
This album fuckin rules, no weak songs and the guitar work is stellar, city of evil and waking the fallen are both great front to back with no skips. The wicked end from the same record is awesome, killer guitar work. “Save me” is also a must, maybe their magnum opus song
Absolutely one of my favorite songs and so underrated I feel, awesome you loved it!
Dude I'm only 4:15 into this video and already I'm realising how much of a cluster fuck this song and the entire album must have been to produce!! There's so much going on with this song!
Just saw them live on Monday it was absolutely incredible definitely a highlight of my year.
Plese make a video on The Wicked End from this album! It's an absolute blast of a masterpiece and it's hard o see people with this knowledge in music like you reacting and commenting to this song. Much love from Brazil!
The acoustic solo is the reason this has become one of my favorite A7x songs, it's just amazing
This is the song that made me an A7x fan. Specifically the changeup at the end. It was like, if they're capable of this, what else are they gonna pull off??
Can't wait for you to react to other songs I also think people are too judgmental about their newest album. If you know their songs, there are a lot of fucky wacky too, just not as too cross-genre as the newest one
@DeadWirePromotions
Жыл бұрын
The new album threw me off at first w/ how much they crossed genres in it, but after a few listens, I’m diggin how it sounds. U can definitely hear Gates leaning into his jazz fusion background on several songs. A couple also have some Sinatra influences as well.
One of most underrated songs of theirs in my opinion, it’s a absolute masterpiece peice
This is one of their most underrated songs. I love jamming this
Hell yea! Thanks man, no one ever does this song always made me think no one liked it.
The best part about this entire album is I loved all the big songs shortly after it came out, then over the years grew to love the non singles far more than those big songs. Only song that feels weak to me anymore is Seize The Day and that was my favorite song 16 years ago in my sad emo boy days lmao

I've had this exact same turn around. My intro to A7X was hearing bat country on the radio when I was kindergarten age. As a teen, I loved Afterlife and Beast and the Harlot. As an adult, I've grown to love every deep cut on every album and I don't listen to the hits near as often (although they're always on the playlist because they're all great songs)

“Seize the Day” is pretty much A7X’s “November Rain”. Especially when u listen to Syn’s solo.
This is the album that got me into Avenged Sevenfold, which is no surprise, because it's an amazing album from an amazing band. 🤘😝
13:35 You say it's a tempo change but it's actually a Time Signature change. They go from a standard 4/4 to a triplet 4/4 (you could call it a 12/8).
Please do a break down of "Fermi Paradox"!!! It's Syn's best guitar work in my opinion.
omg his little dance with the outro was absolutely cute, it was worth a subscribe
Correct me if I’m wrong but as far as I know the last acoustic solo is a collab with Papa Gates🙌🏻
City Of Evil was and still is GOLD
This is my favorite A7X song and I so wish they had played it live

I remember the first time I heard this it basically takes you on a journey and probably sevenfolds best solo at the end
Thank you!!! Literally thank you for saying “and people were surprised by life is but a dream?”
queen have bohemian rapsody, greenday have jesus of suburbia and a7x have sidewinder. those are unique songs
sidewinder my top 1 in this album
Love the reaction and how you break it down, I am the same way myself. Gained a sub on this one
Seeing you so happy listening to this put a smile on my face
This song is special to me. I only listened to 80s rock, and hated 00 rock/metal. My sister had this song on her mp3 player and i heard it. I fell in love with the band. They were like a perfect modern mix of metallica and iron maiden. After looking through their other songs, they quickly became my favorite band.
just notice the audio ducks every time you change camera angles and now it's bugging the stuffing out of me.. great video and breakdown tho!

All of the music from Hunter x Hunter is top notch
“Strength of the World” is an awesome song w/ a Western cowboy revenge story.
I 100% agree with vocals on this album....I remember correctly, he burst a blood vessel in his neck touring after waking the fallen, and thats why he sounded different on city of evil....cas if you listen to self titled album, nightmare, and hail to the king his voice sounds the strongest like it healed and then the stage he had to start changing a little cas his age and stress on voice, but regardless I love all albuns and all styles
7:35 I think people were thrown off because it's not written like a metal song. The ideas are as weird and original (or even more), they just didn't arrange it like a metal album
This whole vid is me everytime I listen to city of evil
Hands down - best song ever created by Avenged.
7:22 BRO IVE BEEN SAYING LIBAD HAS THAT CLASSIC CITY OF EVIL VIBE WITH ALL THE DIFFERENT THINGS THEY DO, like city of evil compared to wtf is way different in the writing and composition and people shitted on it because of so just like the new album
This has been my favorite A7X song for the past 15 years.
Sidewinder, for meit's one of greatest songs of all time. M always love to listen to Strength of the world next to sidewinder
Strength of the world next! Amazing underrated song
