Not sure if I'm a typical audience member, but I think the way you actually address the acting component is what sets you apart from some of the other vocal coach channels. I appreciate your attention to this and think actors can learn a great deal listening to your commentary!

Overreacting?? That climax is phenomenal and heartbreaking and gives it the emotion that befits the character's state of mind... It represents a complete and total breakdown, realising that she's lost her life, and the last stanza is indicative of being totally empty and gutted.

Exactly. You know how many failed aspiring musical theatre actors/singers become grifting “professional coaches” and “professional master teachers” just because they just couldn’t make it themselves? I’ve seen it countless times myself lol. Musical theatre is a heightened art form. Just as it should be. Would you criticize a classical Shakespearean actor this way? Or an opera singer? Or ballet dancer? Didn’t think so. The jealousy is palpable lmao.

He's perfection and his wife sings so much better than she did when they were first together. I think I have seen every video of JJ singing on KZread. His wife and him used to sing a lot together at the concert shows, little venues. You can tell over the years from when they started singing together to now how much better she is. Yes that could be with more practice and performances but having JJ as your husband I believe has to have something to do with it. They just had a baby well a little less than a year ago, did I mention super fan lol. I just discovered your Channel after watching Hamilton on the Disney network and crying through the whole thing. I had to look up who played his wife. Then I found your channel. You deserve more subscribers your very good. Thank you.

In one audition I was in, my friend, who is a boy, sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from “The Wizard of Oz.” He did amazing and got a lead role. The director and music director both even mentioned how cool it was that he had the guts to sing a song originally sang by a soprano woman. They also said it really sets him apart from the other people who auditioned.

I think that Jeremy's performances have been greatly improved by his time on Supergirl. I have always loved his voice and enjoyed his acting but I agree with you that at times I found he overacted on stage. His time on Supergirl really gave him something meatier to chew the scenery with and with a steady job onscreen allowed him to mellow and add more subtlety to his work.

I loved this, and thought it was a terrific performance. Jeremy always seemed so connected to the song, and he's willing to throw away beautiful singing for those little emotional moments (it's so great that you point that stuff out -- that sometimes perfection is not best for performance). I also am always a fan of people who are willing to play a song more internally and quietly, to allow it to build, but without letting it overtake them (which I felt happened on Shoshanna's take, that you also reviewed). This was lovely and a pleasant discovery for me. Thanks for the analysis!

Been obsessed with this song and been looking for male covers to inspire me. I love his rendition and your react! I agree with you that sometimes he overacts a tiny little bit. This song is so beautifully written by Sara that I wish he had been more honest to the melody, especially in the end with the high elongated notes. My favourite performances of this song are by Jordin Sparks and, out of the musical context, Nicola from this year's American Idol. Thanks for your videos! 🙏🏼💚✨

Thank you for your content. I adore musical theatre and I appreciate having someone to break down for me why. I love learning from a professional what it is about the vocal moments and acting decisions that can wrench genuine tears from me, even in the anticipation of it. I think of Lea Michelle singing “Rain on My Parade” at the Tony’s, maybe? And her gut-wrenching camera stare that makes me fill with emotion when I only moderately enjoy her as a performer. In this video you really get at my own mixed feelings about JJ - undeniably a master in conveying emotion through his vocal range, I feel uncontrollably moved by a lot of what he sings. But as you point out, a lot of the physicality of his choices is just cringey. So it’s not “Do I love or do I hate JJ,” it’s - what do I love about him, and what do I wish he did better? Keep making great content. Would love to see you dive into a lot of the 25th anniversary broadway films, or explain to me how the F Sutton Foster could ever perform “Anything Goes” 8 times a week because WHAT.

It took me some time to warm up to Jeremy Jordan because I didn’t care for the accent he did in Newsies. I thought it was a little much. Plus I was pretty attached to the Christian Bale version of his character. But once I got over that and started listening to him do other stuff, it turns out her can do ANYTHING. He has crazy range and rarely ever hits a false note. I could agree that he might over-act when he’s singing sometimes: sometimes I wish he would just sing as himself rather than playing a character. But he can really sing any piece and the quality of his voice is so lovely. I’ve seen bootleg videos of his performance in “Waitress” as Dr. Pomatter was really, really impressive.

@@MarcDanielPatrick He's perfection in my opinion, and his wife sings so much better than she did when they were first together. I think I have seen every video of JJ singing on KZread. His wife and him used to sing a lot together at the concert shows, little venues. You can tell over the years from when they started singing together to now how much better she is. Yes that could be with more practice and performances but having JJ as your husband I believe has to have something to do with it, I would love to know your thoughts. They just had a baby well a little less than a year ago, did I mention super fan lol. I think it might be fun if you reacted to "Theatre Fail" performances and give advice on how to recover from an unexpected situation and keep going. One example I can think of is a high school rehearsal of Les Mis, during Little Fall of Rain, Eponine's blood bag squirted directly upwards and poor Marius and Eponine were cracking up for half the performance

One of the best performances I’ve seen live was Jonathan Price as the Engineer in Miss Saigon on Broadway with the original Broadway cast. I’d love to see a reactions to John Cameron Mitchell singing something from Hedwig (Wig in a Box, Wicked Little Town), which is also incredible (on Broadway or in the movie). And then there is Larry Kert as Tony in WSS - Something’s Coming or Maria, though I don’t know if there is video. Also a huge fan of Anthony Newly.

Full disclosure: I'm only just becoming familiar with Jeremy Jordan, and my experience is mostly with straight plays rather than musical theatre, so take the following with a grain of salt... :) In general he seems more focused on his own performance than on the story, or what the character needs moment-to-moment. Gorgeous voice, no argument there. Some great choices too, again no argument. But it's like he's commenting on what's happening to the character (from the outside), rather than living what's happening to the character (from the inside).

It’s interesting that you didn’t like Jeremy as Jack in Newsies. Have you seen him as Clyde Barrow in Bonnie and Clyde? That’s an interesting performance. He replaced the original Clyde when the guy got poor reviews. I’ve seen footage of the first Clyde, and I think Jeremy is much better in the role. He brings life to Clyde in a way that Stark Sands did not. I’d love to see you react to: When I Drive, Bonnie, or Too Late to Turn Back Now. ‘Drive’ and ‘Too Late’ are physical-acting heavy songs. While ‘Bonnie’ is an intimate moment.
