The only way to truly appreciate an artist is to listen to all their music, not just one song, so we came up with our "5 By" series where David checks out 5 songs by an artist.
The first artist of our "5 By" series is Linkin Park. On this episode of Cleaning Out The Shed, we go back to 2000. Check out David’s reaction to Linkin Park's "In The End".

Choosing just 5 songs is a pretty tall task for Linkin Park honestly, given they pretty much have more than 5 eras of their sound. I would've made sure every song here was from a different album but this is still a pretty good showcase of their sound :)

Hybrid Theory was the first album I ever went out of my way to get. I showed no interest in music as a kid aside from stuff my parents had on the radio but I'll never forget the day as I was hanging out a friend's house as a 10 year old kid & him turning on a boombox and saying "hey man, check this out." From that point on I couldn't get enough of that kind of music and it sent me on a journey of going to concerts, touring with bands selling merchandise on summer breaks in high school which lead me to meet my wife and even to this day the path it set me on keeps going on and on. That album and that band changed the course of my life and I'll forever hold them with the highest esteem.

I've been a massive Linkin Park fan from the beginning. Chester is a Legend. Mike is a Genius. He plays so many instruments. Writes most of their music along with Chester and other band members. Joe the DJ, Produces and directs most of their videos. Linkin Parks sounds change album to Album after the first 2. I personally love it. To see the difference you should check out- Breaking the Habit Given Up New Divide The Catalyst When They Come For Me. I think you would lose your mind on this one. Lol Waiting for the End. A must listen Wretches and Kings One more Light. This was the last album they released. This song and video became a tribute to Chester when he passed. Heartbreaking. Castle of Glass

They could bring on an extremely talented vocalist, maybe even make it on the top charts again, but it won't be Linkin Park anymore. It will become something else. Always thought Chester had such clean vocals with enough timbre/resonance to make him stand out. Then when he really shouts, his vocal fry has such power that can only be energised by the raw emotions in the lyrics. You can BELIEVE he means what he says. He gives the emotion to Mike's rap lyrics. The way they switch from one to the other (rap/ singing, rap beat/ chorus guitars) is effortless & so pleasing to the ear.

What is that? It's nothing That is EVERYTHING Aww man that gives me chills, it is so inspiring and beautiful. Touches my soul man. From 2013 to 2017 ish i wrote legit hundreds of songs. It started as wonderlust in to music, and became inspiration, then it felt like riding a wave, like surfing, then eventually started to feel like a responsibility, then an obligation... Then a chore. I felt like i had wringed all of my creativity and passion out. like you might wring out water from a sponge. I felt so sad, so hollow. Like I had lost my soul. But most of all i just felt so exhausted on a spiritual level. I love music and listen to so much, so many new things as well and they make me so happy, so excited, but hearing you talk. You make me want to pick up my guitar again, set up my keyboard again. Thank you

My senior year of college, I had to take a class called Integrated Review, that was supposed to summarize everything we'd learned in 4 years of math classes and show how it all fit together, or something like that. There were two of us in the class, because it was a small school and we were the only senior math majors that year. Most of the time what it felt like was that this class was showing us we hadn't learned anything at all in the past four years. So, this was kind of our theme song for it. We played it for the prof and he told us we were morbid.

I love the "5 by" idea, and it'll definitely be interesting to see how different musicians have evolved through their careers. So often when bands/musicians change musical style or switch things up a bit, it's met with backlash from fans. It happened with Linkin Parks last album before Chester sadly passed, but I personally love when bands experiment and evolve. Even if my personal preference is to a bands older style of music, I still always appreciate someone trying something

Chester has a great voice. He could literally sing anything. You should look at some of the stuff he done live with Camp Freddy. Covering Guns N Roses, AC/DC and he done a killer version of Live’s I Alone which is a really hard song to sing.

Can't sum up Linkin Park in 5 songs! Love the series though.

Please consider making a 5 by: Evanescene. I feel like they defined the 2000's nu metal along with Linkin Park. I'd recommend: - Going under (Fallen, 2003) - Hello (Fallen, 2003) - Lithium (The Open Door, 2006) - My Heart Is Broken (Evanescence, 2011) - Better Without you (The Bitter Truth, 2021) Honorable mentions: - Bring Me To Life (You already did that) - My Last Breath (Fallen) - Imaginary (Fallen) - My Immortal (Fallen) - Call Me When You're Sober (The Open Door)

One thing to have in mind, (in my opinion) David: You have a great precious gem over here and I think you could dedicate yourself to react over great part of their videoclips, because every song they made is a masterpiece (and I'm not lying). The dynamics, the riffs, the lyrics... everything was made with emotion, we can FEEL the music in us. Chester is one of the best and greater singers of all time for sure and Linkin Park made history! Here's some songs you could react: - Faint - From The Inside - Numb - Breaking The Habit - What I've Done - Heavy - One More Light Thanks again for reacting to them. Linkin Park is my life and I'm very emotional when someone is talking/reacting about them.
