MUSIC TEACHER REACTS | 1998 | 5 BY: System Of A Down "Sugar" | CLEANING OUT THE SHED EP 30

Музыка

The only way to truly appreciate an artist is to listen to all their music, not just one song, so we came up with our "5 By" series where David checks out 5 songs by an artist.
The next artist of our "5 By" series is System Of A Down. On this episode of Cleaning Out The Shed, we go back to 1998. Check out David’s reaction to System Of A Down's "Sugar".

It's not surprising that it reminds you of Frank Zappa, because he is Serj Tankians idol and clearly influenced the band. "I wanna play keyboards with these guys". The lead singer also plays keyboards in system of a down.

yeh, i like heavy music and i started at the first album. it threw me off with toxicity and dont steal, and made i hated mezmerize and hypnotize. after listening to a lot of other music and coming back, i love toxicity and dont steal, still dont know how to feel about the last 2.

S.O.A.D. is a band that helped a lot to form me as a person. I was growing up and listening to their music since I was 12 until and I still listen to it, now I am 31. It's a great band with simple but catchy music and with insanely deep lyrics..

So... John is from a jazz background. Good call on that. First record, Self-Titled: Savage and solid Second record, Toxicity: Sound and style perfected Third record, Steal This Record: A continuation of their second record (fun story how that record came about) and just as solid. Fourth/Fifth record, Mezmerize/Hypnotize: A double album where they got advanced as hell with vocal melodies and harmonies. They also pushed their signature sound further than it had ever been, and SOME fans didn't like that (I love it all equally personally). All and all, I don't think SOAD ever wrote a bad song. Their story is awesome, their message is stellar, and their work to raise awareness for humanitarian causes is inspiring.

Excellent drive by choice! SOAD harnessed the anti-war sentiments during that time period so well, a sentiment that unfortunately continues on today. Please check out Enter Shikari! They voice extremely relevant issues, and have a creative pallet/blend that will have you impressed! I recommend "arguing with thermometers" (others: Ghandi mate, Ghandi; T.I.N.A; and Radiate)

(Personal story below) Pick something from Hypnotize and Mezmerize albums! Violent Pornography and Hypnotize for example, very diverse and enjoyable songs. SOAD is the band that got me into more crazy/harder type of rock-metal music back when I was like 15 (25 now). Among other bands they sparked my love to music to the extent that I instantly bought myself a guitar and began my musical journey (which now led me to finishing my first instrumental album that I even put on Spotify, lol) in both metal, classical and electronic genres. I am eternally grateful for that, since it's their music that had major influence on me back then. I gladly come back to their works years later. You should definitely check out their guitarist's (Daron Malakian) solo project called Scars on Broadway. It has some interesting vibes You'd enjoy. :)

They have quite a few live videos but "The Price" live is absolute insane and so is "Slave" Lets see how you like this ensemble?! Caleb does everything himself for the album then for touring and music videos he has the other band members. Another strong recommendation is The Amity Affliction, "Soak me in bleach" is one of their newer songs.

David I want you to react to this song called "Return from eternal ruin" by Black tongue. I feel like you'll see the depth of that song and how big of a song it really is. I'd love to see your opinion of it and it's structure. I feel like its something entirely new to you. Pull the lyrics up, and sadly there's no music video, but listen to the studio version to get the heaviness of the song.
