MUSIC TEACHER REACTS | 1998 | 5 BY: System Of A Down "Sugar" | CLEANING OUT THE SHED EP 30
Музыка
The only way to truly appreciate an artist is to listen to all their music, not just one song, so we came up with our "5 By" series where David checks out 5 songs by an artist.
The next artist of our "5 By" series is System Of A Down. On this episode of Cleaning Out The Shed, we go back to 1998. Check out David’s reaction to System Of A Down's "Sugar".

Pick literally ANY track and you won't be disappointed. Some are heavier than others but they all have that signature sound. 🤘🤘
Man, I hope Aerials gets picked.

It's not surprising that it reminds you of Frank Zappa, because he is Serj Tankians idol and clearly influenced the band. "I wanna play keyboards with these guys". The lead singer also plays keyboards in system of a down.
you gotta do ChopSuey, Toxicity, Aerials and B.Y.O.B. for the beginning of your System of a Down journey! greets from austria!

yeh, i like heavy music and i started at the first album. it threw me off with toxicity and dont steal, and made i hated mezmerize and hypnotize. after listening to a lot of other music and coming back, i love toxicity and dont steal, still dont know how to feel about the last 2.
"Question!" could be an interesting option!

We defo need Slipknot for this one!
S.O.A.D. is a band that helped a lot to form me as a person. I was growing up and listening to their music since I was 12 until and I still listen to it, now I am 31. It's a great band with simple but catchy music and with insanely deep lyrics..
So... John is from a jazz background. Good call on that. First record, Self-Titled: Savage and solid Second record, Toxicity: Sound and style perfected Third record, Steal This Record: A continuation of their second record (fun story how that record came about) and just as solid. Fourth/Fifth record, Mezmerize/Hypnotize: A double album where they got advanced as hell with vocal melodies and harmonies. They also pushed their signature sound further than it had ever been, and SOME fans didn't like that (I love it all equally personally). All and all, I don't think SOAD ever wrote a bad song. Their story is awesome, their message is stellar, and their work to raise awareness for humanitarian causes is inspiring.
Excellent drive by choice! SOAD harnessed the anti-war sentiments during that time period so well, a sentiment that unfortunately continues on today. Please check out Enter Shikari! They voice extremely relevant issues, and have a creative pallet/blend that will have you impressed! I recommend "arguing with thermometers" (others: Ghandi mate, Ghandi; T.I.N.A; and Radiate)

2 of my fave bands of all time!
This band has so many good and interesting songs!! Also check out Nothing More, God Went North. Great song.
SOAD were a band who got me into the genre, very unique sound. So many good tracks youre in for a treat buddy :)
Man, when you started to fiddle a little bit with the keyboard with some blues, I was like "mmm that is some good stuff right there" and got so excited. System of a down is one of my favorite bands and it is always a joy to find people discovering them.
I saw them live once in Amsterdam. It was absolutely amazing! The energy was palpable (that's how you write that, right?). From the opening, which was Aerials, all the way to the end the crowd was going nuts!
Just wait. I'm sure you gonna do Aerials and I BYOB, but this band is literally a genre of their own. NObody does it like them. Really hoping you do something like Holy Mountain or Forest. Also SOAD are all Armenian and write about their trials and histiry if their people including the Armenian Genocide.
Oh David you just wait this band will surprise you
BYOB, Toxicity, Question!, Aerials for the next ones
SERIOUSLY. Call them! They need to make an album! 😆
Yesssss I’m so glad you’re checking out SOAD. They are going to rock your world man, chop suey, toxicity, lonely day are all amazing songs. Even their smaller album songs such as tentative, solider side, dreaming . You da man!
SOAD and Ghost BC got me into metal, so nostelgic.
(Personal story below) Pick something from Hypnotize and Mezmerize albums! Violent Pornography and Hypnotize for example, very diverse and enjoyable songs. SOAD is the band that got me into more crazy/harder type of rock-metal music back when I was like 15 (25 now). Among other bands they sparked my love to music to the extent that I instantly bought myself a guitar and began my musical journey (which now led me to finishing my first instrumental album that I even put on Spotify, lol) in both metal, classical and electronic genres. I am eternally grateful for that, since it's their music that had major influence on me back then. I gladly come back to their works years later. You should definitely check out their guitarist's (Daron Malakian) solo project called Scars on Broadway. It has some interesting vibes You'd enjoy. :)
This is song is both insanely heavy and fun, awesome to see you jam to it.
we need more SOAD :)
Indeed, live was amazing, was raining mud everywhere, so much energy, one of the best i personaly saw
This is such a wild song lol - hope you keep doing more after the 5. They have so many bangers.
Yesss more system of a down
Man it's 4 a.m. where I live and I can't stop watching your videos, you do a great job I like how you appreciate al kind of music, again great job 👏
B.Y.O.B needs to be here man!
So f×cking great live. I saw them in 2018 outdoor festival and the energy was amazing, they're flawless
John..."The REGULAR name guy" Good one!! LMFAO!!🖤🖤🦇🦇💜💜🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I love the whisper part so much lol and they are AMAZING live!
I really really hope Holy Mountains is on your 5 By …
hell yeah been waiting for a new 5 by!
this was one of the selected 15 songs that fit on my mp3 player back in 1999. ALWAYS APPRECIATIVE!
Awesome!! One of the most original, unique and crazy bands of the last decades! One of the bands of my life too. I´m sure you´ll do the perfect trio: the astonishing "Chop Suey", the great "Toxicity" and their masterpiece "Aerials". Can´t wait!
Cannot wait to see what choices you make! Love SOAD and looking forward to the videos SOAD were very mixed live, some great performances and some very disappointing ones around the time of hypnotize / mezmerise
Ah yes here we go again lol. Super hype for all the system vids
hell yea, been waiting for the SOAD reactions. They're the greatest band of all time in my humbly subjective opinion
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
This channel is severely underrated! Keep it up, the algorithm has found you
Love them! SOAD got me in to metal, they are so unique and different and funny... Amazing
"You know that every time I try to go where I really wanna be, it's already where I am. 'cuz I'm already there". Ah, SOAD
Really sick man enjoyed it alot you should do there song suggestions
Just wait……. Loved the vid by the way!!!
I'm back for these guys for sure! Let's get more music theory in the videos tho please!!
Love that you are doing old System. They are truly gold! Especially their older music. Not sure if anyone has ever recommended you react to Leprous but they are so different and very very talented. I would love to see you react to them. Their drummer is out of this world! They have quite a few live videos but "The Price" live is absolute insane and so is "Slave" Lets see how you like this ensemble?! Leprous is an experience and it can't be missed by you David And you brought up Frank Zappa! Crank the Frank baby! Love Zappa. Joes Garage is my favorite stuff he did!
obsessed with ur energy and vibe LMAO
What am I doing here? As a metalhead from 90s this gets me in from youtube algo? Damn dude that was good stuff.

Love any of the Steely Dan intro! Especially when it’s my favourite track!
This 5 By is going to be epic. A lot of the lyrical content from SOAD is also extremely important.
Such a fun reaction! There's no going wrong with soad, any 4 songs you choose will be good or great. You could probably do their whole discography(which is not that big, unfortunately), and it is hard to find bad songs.
You have to listen to all songs of their album.. absolutely!!!!!! And you have to watch their live from 1998 or 2001

I mean their first album... The first two albums are amazing
Serj Tankian is one of a kind. I hope you do Deer Dance, Prison Song, B.Y.O.B., Chop Suey...hell, any of them are great. Starset - Bringing It Down
Really wanna see how he reacts to (the nice sounding piano in) Chop Suey
apparently serj got his strange vocal style from mike patton's song GENTLE ART OF MAKING ENEMIES (FAITH NO MORE) he changed it right after that album was released.
Brilliant
since you mentioned you like changes of styles and tempo during songs i'd sugest you check out Maximum the hormone, they are a japanese band that got popular in the early 2000 when their song "What's up people" was chosen as the opening theme for the anime Death note. my "go to" songs when it comes to them are : -What's up people -Zetsubou Billy -Buiikikaesu -Koi no megalover -Yoshu Fukushu -Let's talk about menkata cottelee the last one is a bit more recent so idk if it would fit the theme of the show tough.
Yeeees, SoaD 5 by!!
Please make a video of the other songs of System Of A Down Your react is amazing
between the buried - voice of trespass. you'll love it metal and jazz
I think that you'd love the song Question? by System Of A Down for the musical aspect. If I remember correctly, it goes through multiple time changes, which is quite cool to hear.
Oh man, can't wait to see what all they chose to do.

Hey man! Nice reaction! Please react to Radio/Video by these guys!! It's fun to dance to, and I imagine will bring a smile to your face. Cheers!!
Please check out their song “lost in Hollywood” wonderful song with great lyricism and meaning. Think it’s a song you could really sink your musical teeth into ☺️☺️

If you want some more swing-metal, check out Voice of Tresspass by Between the Buried and Me. That group is well known in the prog metal scene for blending all sorts of influences into a metal sound. Extremophile Elite by the same group is jazz fusion metal with a horn and string section, Ants of the Sky by them has the infamous bluegrass breakdown... It's a fun journey.
Need to check out Serj's live version of The Rains of Castamere from Game of Thrones. It's AMAZING!
Welcome to soad🤘
can you do any from korn greatest hits volume 1 please, love your videos and every song on that album your 5 by would be very much appreciated
Definitely next System of a down Question
You have to check byob and question YOUD love it

System of a Down = Queen Pt. II
"John, the regular name guy"
Rick Rubin produced them. I don't know if he has any Zappa influence, or if Serj and the band do, but that's entirely possible. I saw them live 2 days in a row once years ago. Love this band too.
Noticed you liked the way you liked Sam from Architects switching from cleans to screaming, definitely recommend Beartooth. Specifically something from the Album disgusting like "the lines" . Caleb does everything himself for the album then for touring and music videos he has the other band members. Another strong recommendation is The Amity Affliction, "Soak me in bleach" is one of their newer songs.
System Of A Down will be regarded (in time) as the "zeppelin" of my generation

I think you should take a look at Snuff and Vermillion pt 2 from Slipknot, both great songs. enjoyed the vid :)

David I want you to react to this song called "Return from eternal ruin" by Black tongue. I feel like you'll see the depth of that song and how big of a song it really is. I'd love to see your opinion of it and it's structure. I feel like its something entirely new to you. Pull the lyrics up, and sadly there's no music video, but listen to the studio version to get the heaviness of the song.
