DIY genius. What this dude does with a drill, soldering iron and salvage gear is beautiful and inspiring. If this was college, I would take all of his classes.
Sam is both vintage and garage while still staying on the crest of the wave that is what we call electronic music. It's fantastic to watch

While a little less elaborate than this, people were doing similar things when this and similar software were the easiest ways to get into music. It wasn't completely out of the ordinary for 2 people to bring their family PCs to a rave and just jam all night.

Steve Reich on ReBirth! LOVE IT! Man, so much fun was had back in the ReBirth early days - still remember when new skins came out! Great video, as usual.

Either that, or maybe one or two of those old iMacs desperately need to be recapped :D :D. I expected at least one of them to blow a cap at any moment during that video! ;)
Man, I remember my ReBirth days many, many moons ago. I also owned a number of those original iMacs as well. Now, as of Tuedsay, 13.06.2023, I will be purchasing an M2 Ultra Mac Studio. Even in it's base configuration, it is one hell of a powerful computer.
Look Mum 3 COMPUTERS!! This sounded so cool, I loved how the different computers wen tin and out of sync with each other. Thanks so much for showing this off!
Rebirth and Reason changed my life back in the days. Long long nights making music instead of homeworks for school.
I've got 4 of those bloody iMac G3's knocking about, this looks like a well fun use for them!
Talk about breathing life into an old dog! Rebirth never sounded so fresh! Nice one ❤
I first learnt to use rebirth on the original G3 iMac I bought from a friend. He had Mac OS 8.6 installed with the original version 1.0 of rebirth, this allowed the iMac to run up to 3 Instances of rebirth to open and play all at once. It was so cool. Just had to hit play on each perfectly to get them all in sync. I miss that old machine.
This man is a wizard and you can't convince me otherwise.
Absolutely love the polyrhythmic experiments! Just speaks right to my heart! ❤
rebirth has a unique sound that can't be replicated with new tech.
I love you taking what is essentially trash and making it work... Out. Joan's organ, these iMacs, the whole darn museum. Brovo! I just love it.
Sam, if you'd done this back when those machines were popular, you'd have been all over American tech press, and might have even scored a shout-out from Jobs himself. This has the makings of a new-retro orchestra, with people manning the machines, and you on your console, conducting. My old iMac has been sitting in a dusty closet for a while now -- maybe I should see about fixing its power supply finally. 👍
Back in the day, I used Rebirth to teach synthesis and sequencing in an after school music program , along with an ancient program called Freestyle. This led me to be a beta user for the first version of Reason, which I still love and use today. I love that you built an analogue controller for Rebirth, a digital clone of analogue Roland 303,808, and 909. Brings me totally back to see and hear Rebirth after all these years- keep it going!❤
This man deserves to go back in time to blow people's minds. Very cool project and lovely chill acid, thanks. Have you thought about replacing Imacs with something simpler that would run rebirth? It could be something cool, not really cheaper, but more reliable, maybe.
It's not scraping up old crap and making it good. It's catching things at the right stage of entropy, and making the best thing it could be. You're remaking the thing before it is history. Extra time for beauty.
Simply AMAZING!!!... I have no words, This brought me back to when i first watched the movie "hackers" we all know it!!!... man your awesome!!! and THANK YOU!!!!
@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER, you're so totally creative! It's like someone spliced together Bob Moog's technical and engineering skills with both the synthesist and vocalist of a 1980s synth pop duo with a post punk band. I love it so much how hands on you are with your music. You basically DESIGN an instrument, BUILD IT and then PLAY IT. Wow!
Imagine being a club where the six channels (three stereo outputs) are fed to individual speakers around the audience with synchronised lighting and visuals. On perhaps a section of museum dedicated to retro multitrack audio formats
I know you are primarily into the audio, but it seems that this type of setup is perfect for adding light. Possibly each note to a light and each type to a combination. Have you ever thought of expanding in that direction?
I used a virtual midi device to slave Acid 1.0 to Rebirth and ran each on their own sound card. Such a wonderful program your doing justice.

And yes get quick on those hot keys. I’d make my own acid tapes for my car I’d play on drives. The keys are really you can get very fluent on
I feel privileged to have seen you on this journey since you started it, and the livestream on Sunday. This is sounding incredible. Kind of a mellow feel to it. Trippy. The seeds of a new album!
I would have loved this back when the software was released. I used to have to record the tracks I wrote onto cd then DJ with early CDJs.
Oh man... the sound of disk activity on those really takes me back...
The groooove! And the sound is so warm. Brilliant!
Brother you are one of the most interesting people on You Tube and I mean that as a very big compliment. You are very awesome. I love all of you ideas. You would be so fun to spend time with. All of your work looks very fun! Thank you as always
I was playing with Rebirth a lot in 2003 alongside Reason 2.5, and you've made the memory of my 13 year old self so damn stoked! I would have had my mind blown by this set up back then, and it's no less amazing now
Well this saves me the trouble of making the Macintosh Symphony Orchestra, well done good sir.
This now makes sense. All the hard work to build the controller for one machine seemed harsh, for multiple computers its a fabulous idea. Sam you never disappoint us... If ever the museum business dries up I reckon you could always drive a supertanker or control a nuclear power station instead...
bada$$....esoteric, unusual, and super cool as usual - you spoil us with this kind of content - TY!
dreams in and out of my 57 year old synthelctic brains! Cheers you mad lad!😝🥰
Those three iMacs sounded almost as cool as my old Amiga 500!
Wow. I can't help but be so impressed with what this guy is doing here. He is definitely giving viewers a chance to see as an example how far the classic discontinued Propellerhead Rebirth software could be taken.
Awesome! Some reactive lights in the clear imac cases would look dope.

Beautiful when something comes together like this truly beautiful use of e waste
This jam session today sounded unlike your usual music. But I thoroughly enjoyed this!
Sam, what a creation! That flashed me the most (so far) compared to your always creative things you do. You’ve got so much talent. Thanks for sharing this!
9:15 reminders me so much of gigging back in 1986
I swear down you are third aphex twin removed at rebirth.
I love this guy, it is amazing what he does with old tech, and what he creates and the end part. keep it up. look fwd to the next.
This was bloody brilliant! The look was so cool and artistic, it sounded amazing and had such a cool otherworldly retro feel and vibe to it.

still sounds amazing to this day, rebirth is timeless :)
This seems like a lot of fun to figure out. As someone who is bored playing Ableton on a laptop, I've bought some synths. This is just next level to me. Simple in idea, complex in execution but brilliant and usable on stage.
This is like the coolest computer lab at school ever. One thing you could exp with for the other two computer drums repacks is use sweetener samples or chords if it allows long enough sample length. :)
Surreal how pleasing this was.
Lack of space in my apartment is the only thing stopping me from grabbing an old iMac & digging out my ReBirth install CD. Can't wait to see the mods.
Looking forward to seeing more! I’d rather put old computers to work than put them in a box. Once I get around to replacing the capacitors on my 2004 iMac I’m making it a dedicated Reason 3 machine and just deleting all other previously installed software from before it died.
The beast starts drifting . Organic tech .
9:40 Love it, sounds so organic for a bunch of computers
Love this tons...you are too fuckin' great! The old bubble-macs are my favorite, the most stable/dependable/enjoyable computers I ever owned.
20 years ago, when I was studying at the Umeå Institute of Design, one of the computer rooms were full of iMacs. "Wow, how cool" I thought - they did look very, very cool then and they still do - But when I had a try on one I quickly came to the conclusion that they sucked as hard as they looked good, and it seems the rest of the students felt the same way. Soon, the institute got newer, better computers and the iMacs were put in a room in the basement. If you wanted to be sure you were working alone, you could go to the iMac room, because it was always completely empty... Good to finally see now, 20 years later that they actually can be useful beyond looking cool - this was 100% awesome! Briliant stuff!
You so cool and efficient❤ it's is briliance in being efficiency is all about electronic components
This brother has it ALL going on..... man oh man ......
Super impressive, artistic, & clever. Well done man.
This sounded really good, really quickly!! Wow! At the end where talking about drums, maybe add some breakbeats!
You are an unorthodox uncanny touch of genius!
I miss my teal eMac, I miss MacOS 9, and I miss Rebirth. Thanks for the memories
Mate! Got a Yamaha EMX 200 8 channel that was supposedly the foldback mixer for Midnight Oil back in the 80's according to the old guy who owned 'Instumental As Anything' in Lismore 20 years ago ... they had cool gear. Those old mixers have reverb/delay to die for 👂
God this makes me feel slightly old... Awesome job though! I wouldn't mind a Rebirth synth.
That, was, epic! The changing chords tune hit all the right bits for me. Great sound.
i freakin love rebirth.
Those iMac's bring back memories. My first computer was exactly like the number 1 imac. Also ran rebirth at some point
Awesome Sam, quite the set up you mad bugger! Respect to ya!
Very Steve Reich like - brilliant and rogue Sam!
9:40 - Sounds like a Feverray song. Very nice.
Most excellent! The polyrhythms where pretty cool, especially with the reverb it’s got something mesmerising about it. Glad modern computers have fast SSD’s in them, those old mechanical harddrives always sounded like coffee grinders to me. Maybe it’s possible to mod the iMacs with compact flash HDD replacement adapters for a permanent set-up.
do this in a an abandoned warehouse, invite us, few lights.... awesome soundsystem... and partyyyyyyyy
man, a live with this set up... god yes
Fun Watch! Thanks for all you do!
I'm pretty sure Jean-Michel Jarre he would be absolutely livid and Proud to hear this😄😄😄😄
That's a freaking sweet setup! Beautiful Rebirth Magic!
This is absolutely incredible!!!!
Indeed a REBIRTH! You are killing me man. Let's take old obsolete stuff and... ... ... proof that it is NOT obsolete. Impressive on mutiple levels. Actually, what impresses me the most, is the MIDI standard, which is soooo old and still the backbone of electronic synthesizing music. Modern systems are not that much advanced as one might believe it is. Man, my deepest respect!
Oh man I remember that Rebirth demo mode so we'll! 😅. Used to mess about with that for hours!!
Look mum no computer... (but i use 3 old imacs as signal) I love it !
Another amazing production - not to mention the music! LOVE IT
Your getting so much better at sound engineering/live djing
All of these projects just make me smile even before I hear the tunes! Lovvvve it!!
You're a beast! Shout out for giving one of the most important piece of audio/music software its always well deserved 27th re-re-re-re-birth. That thing is immortal, you're just proving that... Roland should team up with Propellerhead rather than shutting them down....damn greedy frogs...
3 imacs....that looks suspiciously like our setup back in the late 90s. We were triggering two(?) one which was running ReBirth, with a poly800 and a 3rd running something called Tokyo9000. ...and I think the we ran ReBirth sometimes and other times something called Back to Basics. They were all networked. When it worked it seemed like magic, when it didn't, it was a technical nightmare. You know how sometimes you get something to work but for the life you you can't explain it or know why or how it's working. lol
Great! Thanks for this interesting and highly entertaining experiment, Sam. This is what keeps me coming back to your channel.
The greatest stuff ever achieved with rebirth. I guess the propellerhead guys are crying tears of joy for you, while watching you creating the y2k dream setup of the usual computer software techno producer.
RB-338 never sounded like this before. Now it found it's REAL purpose through decades. The Time Has Come.
So happy to see your livestream, seeing your ideas slowly (and sometimes painfully) taking shape.
Incredible beautifull signals passing into all these wire. Fantastic 👍
Dawless jam with three computers 👍
This was one of my favourite vids for a while Sam. Gave me a bunch of ideas for sequencing tricks on my modular. Cheers for the inspiration!
Brilliant mate, love your experiments!!
