- Oud & Lute - King of Instruments -
The origin of the oud belongs to the ancient times and similar instruments were used by the Babylonian and ancient Egyptian. Until today, oud is played as the "king of instruments" in Arabic culture.
The oud found his way to Europe in medieval times and it became "lute". During the Renaissance the lute was also regarded as the "king of instruments".

Oud playing in baroque style? I wrote this piece in a modern style. But, I used many elements from the French baroque style in the 17th and 18th century - e.g. Marin Marais or François Couperin. It is indeed very unusual, but I would be glad if you like it! For the constructive communication, please follow these rules when posting: - Before you ask, read the video description. - No hate comments or baseless criticism; they will be blocked - Let's be respectful of each other

Oud can be used for flamenco, blues, baroque or medieval music, even asian traditional music. It's a lute. The sound mastering is beautiful, with a cathedral reverb and delay, some parts make me think about Afghan rubab or tanbur.

I listened to this last night, the first night home with my first newborn child. While my wife and baby slept I listened while I cleaned and tidied the house into the late hours. I sat quietly in appreciation of all the beautiful people and things I have in my life now, after experiencing much trauma and loss. I felt this music deeply and just wanted to share my experience and express my gratitude to you for making this and contributing to a special moment; one I am sure will be a lifelong memory.

sucks horribly. can't imagine how that must feel.... try to remember that its all a cycle... cycles within cycles.... death is necessary for life to exist, and, personally, it isn't _the_ end. Doesn't make sense to me in both scientific and poetic manners, when you really go down that rabbit hole.

I’m posting this for you also: Do not stand By my grave, and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep- I am the thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glints in snow I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle, autumn rain. As you awake with morning’s hush, I am the swift, up-flinging rush Of quiet birds in circling flight, I am the day transcending night. Do not stand By my grave, and cry- I am not there, I did not die. - Clare Harner

I think of David playing a song for King Saul when I hear this. I'm playing this for my students as they work on their assignments. The room is calmer and they seem more focused. 歌おありがとう! 1 Samuel 16:22-23 (KJV) And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight. And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

As I mentioned in several videos, this is an ordinary instrument, and you can buy the same type of oud from varisous stores. Mine was an used one with the bad condition. I repaired it and made the sound the way it sounds today. And as you can hear, I create very variable sounds for musical expression. This is my playing technique, and you need meny years to master it. The instrument alone cannot do it... Please watch my welcome video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/c2eD1ceYnZawhLA.html

The past 18 hours have been a roller coaster and this popped up on my feed. I'm now sitting here listening to this and sobbing. I'm on track for my Bachelors of Science in Psychology and I thought I was graduating next year, so all the planning I have done for where I go next is built with an extra 365 days in mind, and I received an email stating I could walk at the commencement ceremony this year. I had two panic attacks while searching for information. My advisor helped me immediately and explained what I still need for my degree, so I am still on track to graduate next year. I was prepared to move mountains to shift my goals to right now and not 365 days from now, and now I'm coming off of building up all that energy. I'm a fighter, I'm a planner, I make things move and I would have made it all move, and I'm so grateful that I don't have to, but also so absolutely weary. This journey is long and hard, and this music is singing to my soul and providing a relaxing space to acknowledge my own resilience. Thank you. I have immense gratitude for this space you're creating and the comfort being here provides. Your music is healing medicine. Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you.

Your comment speaks volumes to me. Listening to this after some traumatic injury resulting in broken bones and crutches. It's been a week now, and I just feel the Universe just wants to cradle me and get to know me better, for me to know myself and the Universe better. I'm learning I'm an omnist despite years spent as an atheist, and I think I am just beginning to learn "be still and know that I am God." To trust, to accept, to surrender - it takes so much strength, faith, and resilience. Especially in this polarized world. I hope you have a very blessed day.

It’s 2am and I’m laying next to my mom, a 64 woman with metastatic breast cancer. I didn’t see her in 9 months because I live in Canada while she lives in Algeria. At the time I left I didn’t know that she had cancer again. When I knew I tried my best to come to see her again and I did. She lost about 15kg or more. Tired and in pain. On chemo but it is not stopping it. I feel so much guilt cuz I’m only here for two weeks, I have a husband and I’m trying to build a life in Canada. I feel guilty that my sister in law is the one taking care of her cuz I’m not there for her. I had hope to try a genetic test to get more chances to find a medication for her but it is more expensive then what I can afford. This music is the only thing that can calm me and connect me with my feelings, and they are very tough feelings. Please pray for her , I love her so much and I can’t imagine life without her although I know life without her is getting close. Please pray for her 🙏 and for me too to get the resilience I need. Enjoy this masterpiece everyone

i just found out what happened to me when i was 5 years old...my brother was nine at the time and remembers everything but i remember nothing....we were were both damaged in different ways...and have had very challenging life as a result...no wonder i spent my adult life scouring all relegions and spiritual paths in search for liberation...at least i am at peace now knowing why all my intimate partners had been abused and i ended up playing a support roles...it sucks to be part of the group of kids in humanity that were fucked with...but i guess some of us had to go through it...and some of us need to express to the world what it took from us...i am learning to love people again after all the hurt and holding others in life...slowly ❤ thanks for the music that allows me to cry and release this pain. Every small thing counts 🙏

Thank you for your valuable words. In this piece (and many other pieces) I consider the function of a work of art as "catharsis" (purification) created by the ancient Greeks. Tears may flow, but our soul is purified and strengthened as a result. This gives us more strength to help other people, for example. I feel honored that my music may accompany you.

Fascinating and rich tapestry of musical styles. The instrument is the vehicle, and the heart of the composer is the wellspring of beauty and art. Quasi improvisational if not entirely improvised, hence the natural flow of the pieces. A satisfying fusion of diverse musical material, the flowering of human gifts … Bravo!

This music was able to calm me down enough to work. I have been so anxious and perhaps depressed for a few days that I couldn't do much. I am at a crossroads that I am sure many young adults face. A lot of changes are coming. I decided to leave my religion, and have no idea what my family's reactions will be. Work is demanding more and more from me, and everyone has high expectations. I simply haven't believed that I am capable of everything that needs to be done, in spite of having many people on my side. But it will pass, with each rising and setting of the sun, days will pass with their joys and sorrows... the ashen food in my mouth will find its flavor once more. Thank you for shedding a bit of light on my day!
