He also was in a position where he would have seen the hydra being taken down and the crystal start to crack upon it dying. So rudy healing himself, standing up and walking over was the final confirmation that his job was finished. He finally got his family back. Our man at least got to see, he won.

@@tarkeax Ik he died with regrets, thats kinda obvious he left a lot behind, but he sees rudy heal himself after he is fallen and even thinks to himself. He realizes the battle is over. And realistically even if for what ever reason paul didn't know the crystal would break after the hydra's death. He would have figured rudy would get her out, esp with his massive faith in him. The hydra was his final "vicotry/part" he really could play even if he stayed around. Helping Zenith would always land on rudy even with paul there.

"Save your mother, even if it kills you!" He isn't saying that just to Rudeus. He's telling himself that. Paul's mother died when he was 11, and she was pretty much the only person in the family whom he loved and felt loved by. When he started getting closer to Zenith, his image of her started blending with the memory of his mother, for they were similar in appearance and demeanor. He fell in love with Zenith because he felt the same kind of kindness and warmth from her as he did from his mother. So by rescuing Zenith, he'd be saving his mother.

Paul's second sword is special, the harder the object, the sharper the sword becomes. It can cut through any object except soft ones like butter, bread, etc

Yeah, it was a funny little scene that has been described, when they acquired it: The merchant thought it was just a trash sword since it couldn't cut anything unless one put some effort into it. Fortunately Paul (or was it someone else? I don't remember that point) realised it being a magic item and got it for really cheap. That sword was useful in the whole labyrinth.

@@CircaMoon It's not really a 'reset' it kills off part of your brain, and it can't grow back, other parts may be able to take over some of the functions but it won't work as well as it did before.

In my opinion, Rudy doesn't see Zenith as his real biological mother is because he directly crossed over with his soul. He still retains the memories of his previous life's family, so Paul and Zenith don't quite feel like his original family to him. Even with Paul, Rudy only began to acknowledge their some kind of father-son relationship after Paul's death. Before that, he just thinking him as 'Paul' instead of 'Father,' considering that, in terms of psychological age, Paul is even younger than him.

​For the special day that it is on the date aired... Context bro, it's right there ​@@grauciomarx7710 In Japan and many other countries it is the day to celebrate your father. That's the irony in the episode just like Kirisugu's final moment. It's like on other shows in Winter or October, you expect a snowy or spooky episode for the theme which usually happens, so in a way, this was Mushoku's way to tell you happy Mother and Father's day respectively (as TP3 happened in that day too)

8:17 actually Sefy the healing spell is not short, its that Roxy managed to make a methot to make the chant smaller. This is a rare skill that not many ppl ever managed to pull off, but Roxy can do it.

I was already crying, and I cried even more when you said that Paul reminded you of your late father. One of the reasons why Paul is one of my favorite characters is because he feels very human. i mean, most characters in Mushoku Tensei are. They feel real. But I think more so with Paul. He's very flawed, but also has a lot of goodness in him. That's why he's so relatable. I saw a comment long ago that Paul is like the Boromir of Mushoku Tensei and I tend to agree with that.

A little more background on why Rudeus was just standing there needing to be saved by Paul. The Hydra ended up squirming around so much that it bugged out his magic eye and he couldn't tell what the Hydra was doing so he froze up when he didn't know what direction to move in.

Hello Stefy, as someone who's father is also gone and who was also a huge mixed bag, I feel for you on this day and hope that there will always be enough happy memories to bring forth whenever you think of your dad. Mine was such an ass, but he also loved me and my brother very much. I don't think he was a good husband, but I know for a fact he tried so hard with us. I found myself crying as well, first for Paul, then for my dad, the Mushoku crew really know how to make a gut punch resonate. I read the light novel about 2 years ago and knew exactly what was going to happen... and it still blew my expectations out of the water. What an episode right? Them showing his corpse specifically, I think it was far more somber here, so powerful. In any case, I loved this episode, loved this reaction, and send some hugs your way, hoping you have a good day today.

The reason elinalise can’t cut is because the hydras scales are extremely rough. The only reason Paul could cut is because the sword on his left hand had a special power where it can’t cut through easy things like butter, but on the contrary the stronger and tougher something is to cut, the easier it does it

nope, it doesnt explain in the anime but in the novel, Paul found this SWORD that has this odd magic which cant cut through soft stuff like butter but can through steel and such, The harder the target the better the sword, he rip off the merchant cos the merchant didn't know it was like a legendary sword lol

Rudy has to be going in a major mental depression like the last 2 times. His dad died to save him, his mother probably has some major mental issues from her experience. He maybe worried about Norm, she probably going to be angry at him and blame him for his dad death. I think he will need the help from someone to get him out of this hole.

Happy Father's Day, Paul Greyrat. You were not a perfect dude, but you did your best to be a good father to all your children and you went out like a boss saving the lives of your son and your wife.

This scene hit me so hard in the LN, and seeing it animated hit even harder. Rudy loses an arm -> Let's be positive that it's just an arm and hydra has been killed -> Paul gets chomped in half -> F&ck, they had to double down but let's still have a bit of optimism that at least we were able to save Zenith -> Zenith has either severe dementia or amnesia -> Goddamn they really had to hurt me thrice!?

The reason why Paul can cut it is because he got a special sword. It becomes sharper the harder the object it is trying to cut. He got it for super cheap in the market because the vender thought it was a dull sword that couldn't even cut bread but it was a rare sword.

If you want to go an extra step in seeing how hard the scene is, there's the drama CD. It has Roxy's rescue from Rudeus' POV and the hydra fight from Paul's.

In part thats kind of why I loved Paul, far from perfect and kind of a mess, but trying his best to be a loving father and husband, a father not as perfect as we wish they could be, but as flawed, complicated yet still lovable as most fathers often are.

"this was a real turning point" Turning Points ≠ dramatic moments. When you'll fully understand the turning points, you'll understand why ep 18 and not this one is called Turning Point 3. But what a episode! A real rollercoaster.

9:12 for some reason they never explain this in the anime. But in the Light Novels they explain that one of Paul's swords is enchanted in a way that makes it so the more armored something is, the sharper it cuts. So basically the weapon is super good against heavily armored creatures but useless against creatures that have no armor.

Some kinds of hydras, like a lernaean hydra, will regrow two heads for every one you cut off.

As it is said in the novel, "Paul was as much a father just as the ones he had in his previous life...", please, PLEASE read the novel, people need to know paul´s POV in the last 3 episodes and the deep realization that Ludeus has reach in relation with the figure a "father" is.

The reason Elinalise can’t cut it is because Paul can’t either. It’s _his sword_ that’s doing the cutting. And no, I’m not just being a smarta$$ when I say that. I mean he has a special sword that cuts things no matter how strong they are, while Elinalise doesn’t have anything like that. So it’s his sword, not his strength. He just provides the speed and skill to swing the sword at the target.
