1967 Pontiac GTO Restoration and Unveiling V8 Speed and Resto Shop - www.v8speedshop.com/contact
This 1967 GTO complete frame off restoration started with a car that looked like it had been dragged out of a swamp. It was originally Tyrol Blue with a black vinyl top, a black bucket seat interior, the Pontiac 400 for barrel V8 under the hood, and was coupled to a turbo 400 automatic transmission. The car was built with factory installed air conditioning, power brakes, and power steering. However, over time, this 67 GTO badly rusted and deteriorated and was in need of a total restoration.

Once the car arrived at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, our team evaluated the car and disassembled it, and started building the restoration plan. The GTO frame required repairs on the body mounts, and a few other places, and the chassis was restored with Epoxy primer and industrial paint finishes. The V8 crew installed a complete BMR fabrication tubular suspension system, similar to what would be seen on Chevelles, Oldsmobile 442s, Buick GS's, and other GM A-Body platform cars. The suspension system will allow the car to handle and perform better than originally, without sacrificing a comfortable ride.
The body was media blasted, and the V8 Speed and Resto Shop fabrication shop went to work, replacing the quarter panels, installing a new trunk floor, replacing the cabin floor, repairing the dashboard, building a custom, firewall, replacing rocker panels, and much more. Once our 1967 Pontiac GTO’s rust and damage repairs were completed, it went into our body shop where all the panels were fitted perfectly, and sanded to perfection.
Meanwhile, our mechanical team refreshed the Pontiac 400 V8 and topped it with a FiTech fuel injection system for improved performance and reliability. The V8 Speed & Resto Shop paint department sprayed the GTO in a fresh two-stage Tyrol Blue, creating a show car quality paint finish with clear coat a mile deep.
The V8 Speed & Resto Shop’s Interior department was busy restoring the bucket seats, stripping the seats and repairing the frames, installing new seat foam and wrapping them with new reproduction seat covers. The V8 interior shop also refurbished the door panels, the dashboard, headliner, and all the various elements inside the car, and installed a new carpet.
Once the new fresh paint job was wet sanded and buffed to mirror perfection, the interior shop, crew installed a new vinyl top and began reassembling everything inside the car. This included a dashboard filled with gauges from Dakota Digital and a sound system from Custom Autosound, air conditioning from Vintage Air, and reproduction dashboard trim and console details.
The crew installed a Magnaflow stainless exhaust system to make the Pontiac 400 V8 engine, sing, and new wheels and tires were installed. Trim pieces from OPGI or use throughout the car to make everything crisp and new. The V8 Speed & Resto Shop team did amazing job restoring his car from start to finish, and you would not recognize it as being the same car and looking at the final product.
But perhaps one of the greatest satisfaction of this restoration was presenting the car to the owners at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Chicago! The team unveiled the car to the owners and their family, and then the MCACN judges took over and scrutinized the car. It was judged in the Street Modified class, scoring 997 out of 1000 possible points! Our team is grateful for the opportunity to restore such a cool car for very nice people, and the Blue Ribbon was a nice touch.

First-time viewer. Extraordinary car, extraordinary craftsmanship, and extraordinary video. I believe this is the best automotive video I have ever seen. Super photography, great narration, and superior music. Thank you, thank you, thank you for using some other than the stereotypical louder-than-the-narration-mediocre-screaming-electric-guitar that is generally inflicted on viewers. Truly a professional video.

I've been restoring "Muscle Cars" since the mid '70s and from experience I appreciate all your hard work and care in what you do. I call this kind of thing "rolling art" and it truly is!! I'm currently restoring a '69 Mustang Fastback for it's original lady owner who's daddy purchased it for her back in '69 from Pasadena Ford. It's all stock and number's matching in Aztec Turqouise with stock black bucket seat interior, 351, AT, PS and PB.

This car has a special place in my heart. I was born in 1967. When I was little, my mom had two cars in a row with a similar color. First, she had a 1964 Chevrolet Corvair convertible. Next, she had a beautiful 1966 Pontiac Bonneville coupe in a silvery blue. Her next car was a green, 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix. The Bonneville was a 389, I believe, and the Grand Prix was the same engine as that GTO...a big block 400 that would roast the rear tires off the wheels. I guess I have always been a Pontiac guy.

First, '67 is my personal favorite GTO. The entire production is the best I have ever seen, starring of course, the restoration. Much has changed in the automotive paint world since I left it 35 years ago. The supplier for whom I worked sold DuPont and Ditzler and we stocked factory pints of Spies Hecker for our Benz dealers. Seeing that only one name of the three remains surprises me not a little.

Great show no doubt when I was about 13 years old. My brothers friend had a 67 GTO red with a white vinyl top and white and black interior and they found the total Trans Am and put the 400 drivetrain in it and air-conditioning and I’ll tell you why I always wanted one of those cards when I grew up. I never got one, but I still appreciate them like I did then.

When I was 15 years old (back in 1989), I was given a '67 Pontiac Tempest. It was in pretty rough shape. Not quite as bad as this one was to begin with but, it was rough. Originally, it was the same color as this GTO. It had the original 327. All matching numbers. I wish I would have had the resources at my disposal to have done a proper restoration on it and enjoy it. Sadly, though, I ended up selling it. It had a blown head gasket. My dad and I didn't know if it was a bad head gasket, warped heads, or a cracked block. There was oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil. Turns out, it was, in fact, just the head gasket. I love auto restoration videos (in general) and I especially love seeing GTOs, Tempests, Bonnevilles, and Catalinas restored. It always takes me back to a happier time. Thanks for sharing this video. You guys did an AMAZING job on it!

Out of high school in 1974 my buddy swapped cars with his older brother. My buddy wound up with a 1966 GTO with about the same color blue, white interior, 389, 3 deuce, 4 spd. I got to drive it once; what an experience.

I bought a '67 GTO new. Plum MIst, biggest engine I could get, 4 speed, no power steering, No air con, white interior and 4:33 gears. That car was a rocket, I wish I had it today!

I had one too when I was 16 in 1976. I paid $500.00 for it. I sold it two years later so I know how you feel. At least we can say we had one and got to experience it.

Phenomenal job! As much as I love these fabulous restorations (on worthy cars, such as this), I’m not sure the expense could be justified without some serious sentimental value. That being said, I’m sure many, many people will be asking to buy this car!

Awesome job and color! I've seen a few of those in high school, but the ones I loved the most were that burgundy red color with a black vinyl top. Two seniors who were friends then. One had a 66 and the other a 67. They were both burgundy/black vinyl and polished in the school body shop. One had a 389 engine and the other a 400. Both beautifully done, inside and out!

Nice car. I was impressed that it had the Hurst His n Hers shifter. I installed one of those in a 1967 442 after converting from a 4 speed car to a T400 auto. Thumb up for the resto.
