Same thing with Dale Earnhardt and NASCAR. 3, yes, 3 drivers died in 2000, Adam Petty, Tony Roper, and Kenny Irwin, Jr. Hardly a damned thing was done to safen the sport, but the minute we lost Dale, meetings were put together to try and make the sport safer. Not trying to disrespect Dale in any way, but I’m saying that, IMO, NASCAR disrespected these three drivers. If you’re interested in this subject, check out Brock Beard’s video on it: “3 Before February.” Fantastic watch for sure.

On the contrary, people remember Roland only because of what happened the day after. Roland gets remembered much more then he ever would if he had been the sole casualty. Nobody remembers Stefan Bellof when f1 comes to Spa, nor is Riccardo Paletti ever commemorated in Canada. Not even acclaimed drivers like Ronnie Peterson or Jochen Rindt who died in Monza are ever remembered when f1 gets there.

Possibly the saddest weekend in F1 history, since March 1977 when Tom Pryce & a young marshal lost their lives from the same incident. The whole events of Imola 1994 greatly impacted me, a 21-year-old man who had only recently gotten into watching F1 at the end of 1993. This weekend, though I didn't see the Friday events in which Barrichello crashed live, in a momentous way changed my view on life and how things are important and are not. On Dutch television, following Senna's death, a documentary of Senna was shown. That Saturday marked for me the first time ever I had seen anyone die in real-time. I had experienced death before but never had I been a person looking at the event in real-time in which any individual died. I experienced the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, but only in a replay in the news. Now... I was watching the F1 live of the qualification and someone died. It didn't matter who he was, this was someone, regardless of anything, anything, who lost his life while I was simply watching it at home, on Eurosport, and it was tragic, it immediately affected me. Ratzenberger's death affected me, and Senna's the day thereafter just added, immensely, to that feeling. I applaud Max Mosley's decision to attend his funeral over Senna's, but in the end, there is no difference between them at all, as both died doing the same thing, drive F1 cars. I've seen Jules Bianchi's accident too real-time, but it remained (literally) in limbo until he succumbed to his injuries. His death is the last of F1 drivers I've seen in real-time. 2 people died due to F1 in between (Graham Beveridge and Paolo Gislimberti) which are both horrific to think about. To end this on a more positive note, we can all rejoice in the survival of Romain Grosjean who literally walked away from an accident that should, if not for F1's relentless quest to improve safety measures constantly, have ended in much greater tragedy. And his survival can be traced back to this day, where Ratzenberger lost his life. The FIA, who has been criticised often on terms of how F1 is guided, sanctioned and such, but we can since a week say, never, ever relent on protecting their drivers, have proven their merit in the way they intent on protecting drivers. Imola 1994 must never be forgotten, but so should Sahkir GP 2020 never be forgotten.

And when Senna died 24 hours later, they found an Austrian flag tucked in his car. He had planned to honor Ratzenberger on the victory lap after the race.

Possibly the saddest weekend in F1 history, since March 1977 when Tom Pryce & a young marshal lost their lives from the same incident. Ayrton Senna was devastated after Roland’s death, and planned to honour him the next day, by having an Austrian flag in his car. Unfortunately everyone knows what happened on race day, and Senna crash and death overshadowed Roland’s passing. RIP to all fallen heroes.

Was you around in ‘77 when pryce died? If so can you tell me what happened please, That incident is what got me interested in the world of f1 and I want to know how the public reacted to pryces death since it’s not much about it online cause of how long ago it was.
That weekend😢😢, and Murray bless him
