    I have the exact mower in the vid. I did everything covered here and aside from having a clean carb now, it still won't start. I bought a spark tester and the spark appears weak and kinda yellow. You can barely see it. What should my next step be.... replace the coil(s)? I sanded everything so that there would be good connection....w no improvement.

  • @IndRepair

    @IndRepair

    2 жыл бұрын

    I would test the coil with the kill wire disconnected (spark plug held against block, unplug small wire to coil, turn engine over and see if you get better spark) to see if it could be a safety switch or ignition switch issue. Many times the ignition could do go bad though, so that could very well be the issue

    @@IndRepair Thanks for the reply. I have it at a repair guy. Is it reasonable that after I replaced the coil to no avail that it would need: a magneto and the valves "fixed", then finding that the valve stems are worn down and the motor is throwing off "right-side compression"?

  • @IndRepair

    @IndRepair

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@powerswv1 The Magneto and coil are the same thing but if you used an aftermarket then I would replace it with OEM. It could have a stuck valve or other valve issues, maybe bad valve guides? • @shermanpup

    @@IndRepair I have the diagram , after the engine starts the key puts 12volts on the yellow wire which connects to the primary winding of the coil when the engine is running? The seat switch grounds the yellow wire when you get off of the seat and stops the engine . There is a test point on the yellow wire I assume that will be 12 volts with the engine running . I have the seat switch shimmed so you can get off of the mower without it shutting off . I saw a video that goes over the resistance measurements of the coil . Where do you find the space for the coil and flywheel ?.Thanks for any other response

  • @IndRepair

    @IndRepair

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@shermanpup there should be no voltage to the ignition coil attached by the flywheel. This should only have 1 wire running to the coil, which is a kill wire. Spacing of a standard business card will do just fine. It should be .006 to .010 Inches gap. If you test without the wire plugged in at ignition coil you should get spark. If not getting spark with that disconnected then the coil is bad (assuming you checked out the spark plug). Be sure to have unit in neutral and follow safety protocols to make sure you do not have an accident while doing this. A helper in this situation makes it a lot safer. The unit will not shut off with the key if it starts with the kill wire off. You will have to pull the plug or run out of gas.

    Battery can be charged should be over 13 volts when fully charged. Clean the carburetor and flush the fuel system, really the only things that should be needed at this point! Transaxle on these you cannot check, change or add fluid to but they are pretty well bulletproof with normally only issues I find are belts bad. Good luck! Hope it all works out for you!!
