The dance of the fire dragon (稻草香火龍) has become a unique identity associated with Mun San Fook Tuck Chee, which is one of its kind in Singapore. This art form originates from Guangdong and it was brought to Singapore in the 1980s. A painstaking process that involves the making of a core using natural materials such as rattan and the plaiting of dried rice stalks to form the body of the dragon. Lit joss sticks are inserted into the body prior to the dance and traditionally, the dragon would than be left to rest, to be consumed by the flames, ascending to the heavens bearing wishes of the devotees.
In this episode, Master Craftsman Meng Chye wants our viewers to know he is doing his best to impart the skills in constructing the fire dragon to those who have the interest to learn so they have a legacy to stand on and live out.
