Multivariable Calculus Lecture 3 - Oxford Mathematics 1st Year Student Lecture

This is the third of four lectures we are showing from our 'Multivariable Calculus' 1st year course. In the lecture, Sarah's focus is on Volume Integrals.
You can watch many other student lectures via our main Student Lectures playlist (also check out specific student lectures playlists): • Oxford Mathematics Stu...
All first and second year lectures are followed by tutorials where students meet their tutor in pairs to go through the lecture and associated problem sheet and to talk and think more about the maths. Third and fourth year lectures are followed by classes.

    It has been 19 years since I graduated from university as an engineer. However, I enjoy watching your lecture. You have a very clear and understandable explanation. Thank you.

    Dear Lecturer, This is a very refreshing introduction to vector integration. I would suggest really going over the Earl-styled examples of SWITCHING THE INTEGRALS and then appreciating in a practical way - perhaps mid calculation - what kinds of issues are going to emerge: how fubini’s theorem will not be applying somehow…. This is not specific to a deeply illustrious course on integration of great analytical mystique. This is more practical than anything - and this kind of phenomena is NOT REALLY GONE OVER IN courses, such as electromagnetism, that (1) rely upon the correctness of these computations (2) can’t afford to be analytical in a circumstance where responsibility for accurate integration is actually assumed ….. This is a refreshing lecture series!

    Have you seen my discourse for coding multiple inference problems in under-to-pressure circumstances and bomb removal-to-defense protocols?? I've worked in FBI, Detectives, & Executive to Research Roles in Genetics & Reproductive health, all these are quite considerable in terms of their velocity, thank you for sharing your personal insight into this domain.

    why isn't the theta angle from 0 to 2pi?

  • @adrianwright8685

    @adrianwright8685

    Because theta = 0 is pointing straight up - "North" and theta =180 is "South". So 0 to pi covers all space

    17:15 why are we allowed to say theta only ranges from 0 to π, instead of 0 to 2π?

  • @mdarifhussain1

    Because, if that was allowed then the 0 to pi part would cancel out the pi to 2pi part. And you would end up with nothing.

    You want theta to be 0 to π to make a 2D semi-circle, then you rotate that semi circle 2π to make a sphere.

    The lectures are given by the University to students from all of the colleges. In parallel, you attend weekly hour-long tutorials organised by your college with a fellow student and a tutor (who might be the lecturer or a college fellow or perhaps a PhD student with expertise in the subject. The tutorials typically start by handing back last week's work (marked) then briefly discuss problems you have with the lectures, if any. Most of the time is spent with you working through harder and harder problems on the blackboard, perhaps beyond the lecture material. Finally, you get set work to be done by next week - often, questions from past exam papers. So most teaching is done via tutorials. Cambridge works the same way but tutorials are called supervisions.

    Do you really have to refer to your notes, every 2 seconds, in order to cover such a trivial subject?!
