Honda has just released the 2021 NC750X. With a lot of updates on the table, the NC750X now becomes more of an onroad tourer than a do-it-all adventure-touring motorcycle.

I have owned the 700X for 5 years now. On the showroom floor it had a Honda tag designating it as an "Adventure" bike along with the dual sport Dunlop tyres. There are no bikes made that satisfy everyone's everything but this one bike is as close as it comes. I've been riding 57 years, owned 64 bikes, ridden multiple more and on 4 continents. I have an FZ09, Thruxton 1200, F800R, F800ST and the NC. What this bike is capable of, the handling, braking (non ABS) , and practicality is nothing short of superb.

I own a 2020 manual (no abs in U.S.). I was really hoping they would go in the opposite direction and provide more travel and a 19” front wheel like the did with the cb500x in 2019. My 2020 is such a blah uninteresting bike (which is why I like it 🤷‍♂️) that I really thought they’d move forward instead of backwards. No the 2020 and older isn’t really anything you’d take off road anyways, it is capable enough to get into obscure places on fire roads and I paved rougher roads in national forests to find a good campsite...

Yep - Right On! I agree 100%. As soon as you said they'd completely dropped the suspension, I thought it might be to differentiate it more from a baby AT. However, the bad news is that probably means the Baby AT will be based around this engine and frame, which means we won't be seeing a Yamaha T7 slayer from them, probably just a dressed up, low powered, super heavy commuter bike in Adventure Bike clothes. We ride cross country a lot so the fuel mileage and maintenance was easy. I hear the new bike has a redesigned seat so looking forward to sitting on one. Also, is it possible Honda is using a better suspension up front to make up for the lowering? That would be nice!

The new model's ride by wire is exciting, but dropping the seat height makes me think this is slowly morphing into the CTX700 which is a bike I'm not a huge fan of. I love my 2016 nc750xd, but do not see the need to upgrade. I lowered the footpegs on mine and am worried that on the new model my legs would be cramped even more. A nicer seat though may change my mind. The DCT suffers from it being called an automatic... the latest lamborghinis and ferrari's have the same style of gearbox. But no-one says those cars are automatic because that doesnt fit with the sportscar image. Those cars have flappy paddle manual gearboxes. The same as this Honda. So for people that balk at this great bike being an automatic, just think of it as a flappy paddle gearbox instead. Wouldn't the cb1000rr be great with a flappy paddle gearbox, a box that can change in 60 milli seconds while you stay on the power ? Because that is what the manual mode of the dct gearbox in this bike can do.

Shame they’ve lowered it still further, not so much because of the lack of off road ability but because for taller riders it’s going to make the cramped feeling worse. Sadly it doesn’t even look as though they address the one main issue of the desperately uncomfortable standard seat. Given there was always the nc750s available for the lower seat height I think you’re right that this is a cynical ploy to remove any off road ability ahead of the launch of a much more expensive 850 Africa Twin. Glad I have the earlier version.

Not a fan of DCT. You can't cut engine power immediately during an emergency brake. You must time your downshift precisely (can't hold the clutch, downshift to the correct gear and hold while coasting down)

I don’t like that they have reduced the suspension travel , for light off road or poor asphalt road conditions long travel on any bike ( well not sports bikes of course) the extra tank size and HP a bonus , it’s a shame that they didn’t make the baby AF.

I like the new speedo display. The outgoing speedo is hard to see in bright sunlight. It would have been further improved if they had made the display "tiltable" to suit the rider. The rest of the bikes changes are not enough to make me consider trading my 2018 NC. The idea of shorter gears 1-3 get a big thumbs down from me as they are on the low side already. The dark wheels are good as it will help hide the crap from the chaindrive. Pity they did not fit a shaft as that would have made me want to buy one immediately.

I just grabbed a 'new, old stock' 2018 NC with the DCT this past summer for a great out the door price of $9200 CDN...but, yeah, I really don't like the display or the silver wheels either. Nor do I understand shortening the gears. A shaft would rob too much of the already relatively low power, but a belt would be a nice compromise. You meet the nicest people on a Honda...and me.

So basically the 2021 "upgrades" are all about improving that low-speed DCT handling you'll encounter quite often in the towns and cities (lowering gears 1-3 to make low speeds easier on the DCT and lowering the center of gravity for more "stability" at lower speeds (and overall)), which is expected seeing as how low speed handling and stability are the main challenges for any automatic single track vehicle...

I own a 2020 750x, and I think honda nailed the design. But missed the oportunity to improve the biggest flaw the NC has. Front brake is simply not up to the weight of this bike, a dual disk should've been included since it already comes on the xADV.

I belive its a great bike for what is is. But it would be fantastic if Honda could make a real Overlander edition of this bike with bigger wheels, more suspension travel, bigger fuel tank etc etc...

I think they could had put a little more power. At least 65 hp. Then it would be almost perfect. I own a 2019 one, travel edition, and i was thinking jump to the vfr or versys but i can't give up that front luggage. I think all motorcycles should have that. It' so clever and practical!

Owned the 700X, took it off road too. Lack of highway performance and serious off roading (sand/mud) turned me to the CRF1000, despite the 700 being a generally fun bike. Lack of technical support and loads of trouble suspension wise as electronically pushed me to didge the Africa Twin and get a heavy CrossTourer which was the best deal at that time. It has massive performance, more torque than a freight train but not really having that "oompf" feeling of being fun at B roads, let alone off road for it's waaaaaay too fast for it and WAAAAAAAAAY too heavy to take off road, except hard packed fire roads. Oh Honda, if only you'd scout the forums and listen to our cries would you finally... *Puts on Cyberpunk 2077 voice*... "Wake the F up"..., and give us our much needed baby Africa Twin and not shaving of more suspension travel of the 750 AND LOWERING THE SEAT... This bike is already cramped as is. If you want to focus on 4ft short, 26" inseam Asians, then pull the plug in the Western world and stop torturing us! Why must we always struggle with you Honda... either we gotta pick a 450/500cc underperforming "adventure bike", or ride a 50 up to 100kg too heavy road biased bike and pretend to be riding a full blown dakar rally in Africa. *Table flip* Congrats Yamaha, I guess your T7 has now already officially won the battle of affordable mid range adventure bikes of 2021 after already dominating 2019 and 2020.

Waiting for your post regarding the NC750X.... This upgrade by Honda it is like you want to compete with Tenere 700, Ktm 790 Adventure, 850GS but you had a hangover last night and you wake up and say to yourself: We could have overpassed our competition, but we actualy overpassed the previous version of NC750X....but definitely NOT BY MUCH ! 😀 Nevertheless, the upgrade it is a dissapoitment for me, but the NC community its devided between loving the new bikes upgrades and staying loyal to the actual version. Hopefully 2022 will be a much more interesting year when it comes to Honda...
