Real Muay thai fighters have awesome standing grappling . They will control ,throw and sweep your legs . The only thing a skilled Thai fighter needs to learn is ground fighting and then all the lower weight classes of mma would be rule by thai dudes

Thai grappling doesn't work because most of the center of gravity is on the upper body. As soon as a person with a wrestler's stance went against a thaiboxer, sweeps would stop working. The same goes for Thai clinch.

  • @hukit0

@@janl4062 Thai clinch in Thailand often looks pretty similar to Greco wrestling (underhooks, overhooks, body locks, etc.), which is a major component of freestyle. They might be missing the element of leg grabs, but there is a huge amount of overlap between Thai grappling and western wrestling except with the added element of elbow and knee strikes. People call the double collar tie "Thai clinch," but you very rarely see it used in Thailand unless there is a big skill/size disparity.

The reason BJJ has become cult because it reinforces the belief that fighting is just like making the right move in chess and you can beat anyone. This isn't how reality is. Seen wrestlers dominate BJJ guys and especially catch wrestling all the time. Then Muay Thai kicks are so insane BJJ guys can barely grapple after that. Plus sheer strength with little bit of fighting knowledge can be game changer.

Wrestling better than bij because more takedown/throw focused. Works great on concrete and keeps you standing up. Also people tend to stop fighting back if you throw them on the curb lol. Best thing is to learn everything and specialize on 1 thing. Most (if not all) MMA champions are at least decent at every aspect, but amazing at a certain thing. Like Stephen Thompson. He's decent at wrestling and takedown defense, he has to be to survive grapplers. But he's amazing at striking. Or Khabib, who is a grappling God but needs some decent striking to not get straight up KO'd

I understand Jocko’s point at the end about getting close to a guy to strike, consequently giving the grappler an opportunity to take the other guy down, however if the striker knows how to strike well he can maintain some distance, throw some vicious combos and have the grappler on the back foot. In fact, if he’s a proficient striker he will likely knock the grappler out before the fight ever goes to the ground be it a leg kick, elbow or punch.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth In him should not perish but have everlasting life." Grace is that which is not deserved and yet given anyway. Mercy is when God gets in front of what you do deserve. God is fiercely protective for that which he finds to be his own, and will requite them that are faithful unto he, yea, those who have not begun negativity, pessimism, and resentful natures and spew not a copiousness of uncaring selfishness, the workers of iniquity who see it right to do wrong in the sight of the Lord and change not their ways, who say none shall see my wrong and Love is of no importance. Pray for wisdom and treasure God with all the heart, read the KJV and study diligently that none of you be deceived. Read even this. Isaiah 28:9-10 Matthew 4:4 Proverbs 4:7 Psalms 1 Hebrews 11:1 & 6

Fighting a real muay thai, there's a good chance you either die or broke your leg, nose, ribs, jaw. Those mofo kicks is like getting beat up by a baseball bat.

Just like SAKURABA toying around with the Gracie BJJ Brothers. Beats them in their own ground game. Lost an arm after. Gracie even Surrenders. Watch youtube fight Muay Thai vs BJJ, how useless BJJ becomes on a kicking battle. You will literally lost your leg if you're not being careful with real Muay Thai(Thailander) fighter. BJJ us useful to ground fitghs esp. if the opponent doesnt know how to do ground fights, but to a striker kick or punch, goodluck. Just like Joe said, a fight started at standing far apart.

If you think BJJ will save you in a street fight then you need to practice it on the ground. Next class From standing position have your students train takedowns in the parking lot parking lot..And please have a ambulance ready. Right now I"m eating a joko Bar.

Muay thai destroys bjj all the time, unless bjj learns striking. But if muay thai learns submission too, then its back to muay thai beating bjj.

Was Thai sparring last night and was in a clinch and was .2 seconds away from locking my grip (as much as I could with 16 oz gloves) and dumping him but I remembered it was Thai sparring not mma, I woulda felt so bad if I did that with out thinking, glad I was able to keep myself grounded, I really did need a take down 😂my partner was simply better than me on the feet in jjst about every way, I did not have answers bar my front teep and a side kick, maybe bar my side kicks (nobody seems to use em or defend) and my power as I’m naturally bigger. A takedown woulda been nice, I’m convinced I’d sub 99% of the dudes in my sparring class but they never come to mma sparring😂but on the other hand I routinely get my shit kicked in Thai sparring by the more experienced guys, but to be fair to me, mma sparring is way more complex than thai, my wide stance and lower hands are great in mma but a wider stance in Thai just gives them way more chances to eat ur legs up

You can lock grip in Muay Thai, just not throw them with it, just dump instead. Next time go for it, as Muay Thai fighters should be trained for that
