Laptop not turning on after battery was unplugged/plugged is a feature to protect from static electricity. It will reset after plugging the adaptor and pressing the power button for 20 seconds (depends on how the manufacturer implements this). Anyways, the way you handled the upgrade was awesome enough if not perfectly executed. You definitely followed some precautions like removing the batteries. And if a heatsink is provided, always make use of it as electronics will degrade over time due to heat... so the heatsink will always help whether you are gaming or not, as long as it will still fit in the laptop (profile is not so tall to create a bulge in the casing/cover).

Just got a GF65 myself, I didn't let the first boot go without doing a memory and SSD upgrade on it myself (laptop is for my wife, I got a G15 with 5900/3070). First boot also required power, and took a good second to post with the new memory. It's been booting fine without since and super quick. This is a great laptop for the price.

FYI, that "factory seal" its not a "Warranty void if removed" seal, what it means is that factory approved to be shipped and has not been tampered with since shipped. In case you think that you upgraded your PC and warranty is voided that is NOT the case, just make sure to keep your factory hardware in case you need to test and discard 3rd part hardware issue, if the issue is still present you can still contact MSI.

It's like putting a timing cover on bro, screw size doesn't matter! But seriously, I'm a gearhead and computer geek. You did a great job. The "heatspreader" you put on the m.2 drive, helps to spread the heat better. You had 3 chips that heat up, putting that heatspreader on helps to evenly pull the heat from all the chips and spread it to a larger surface. The not booting up til it was plugged in was already explained below. But this is also an old video, I just wanted to give you props because I wasn't sure myself of what needed to be taken apart as I strictly work on desktops. I would have left the top part on and probably broke sh!t!! lol

Great video - many thanks - Keep up the good work. Please add links to the upgrade parts you bought in the description :-) Probably I'm an idiot but it took me a while to feel confident that these systems use 2280 (size) NVMe's. I'm still confused whether a heat pad should be used between the SSD & motherboard, though. Having a drive which came with a heat spreader for its other side is probably a good thing. For what its worth, I don't think the hinge cover *needs* to be removed for this upgrade. I plan on not removing mine because it looks like a right fiddly b***h to get off & even more so to get back on. Particularly good to know about the PSU needing to be connected before it would boot :-O That would sure make me sick XD There's a tiny (reset?) switch underneath which can be pressed with a paper clip or similar - or possibly by hand even when the bottom case is off. In only 1 of the 5 KZread vid's I've watched on this model, they pressed it. Maybe that would have made it boot 1st time without the PSU? Anyway not only was this vid the top KZread result, it has excellent A/V quality, a clear & charismatic host who manages to be both not an IT nerd but handles the components with care & gets the job done well so I thought I'd give this longer-than-usual comment :-) Again, many thanks, man!

Hello there! Just a question. I was thinking about buying a second SSD drive for my MSI GF65 Thin Gaming Laptop. It has 16 GB of crucial ram, and 512Gb of SSD. I was thinking of maybe getting between 1 and 4 Tb of space, or maximumly, 2Tb. I also saw you yourself had to watch a couple of videos to get the extra space ready by formatting the SSD, and hope maybe you can help me with that in the future if you can. I was be careful with this one, cause I got it at a super duper good price and know if i wanted to get another 16Gb of ram, it'll have to be crucial since I am kind of on a budget, haha. Hope you can help me out though! 😁

Hello i got a Msi gf65 thin 10sdr with 8gb, not sure what kind of ram should i buy, going to go for 2nd hand ones. is any of these two will be compatible to my laptop ? I dont dare to buy anything cuz not sure if it gonna match or not... feeling frustrated with just 8gb ram but rest of parts are decent gtx1660ti and i7 10750h... need high ram to run multiple instances of d2r.. currently got these two options, 280eur each.. will try to bargain them Thanks in advance. option1: Corsair Vengeance SODIMM 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4 2666MHz C18 (this one is used and about 2 years old) option2: Crucial SODIMM 64 GB (2x 32 GB) DDR4 3200 CL 22 (this one claims to be unused) both from local ebay, which should i buy ?

@@TylerPotter That does make you wonder, doesn't it? Most laptops these days appear to come with small amount of RAM and equally small SSD, where for gamers, an upgrade is a necessity rather than a luxury. At the same time, if you upgrade through the vendor, they charge you 2-5 times more for the upgraded SSD/RAM you are getting. So, most people end up upgrading themselves - thereby voiding the warranty. In other words - it all feels a tad like a scam, as far as warranty is concerned.
