As mentioned by the Professor, if you don't get a job in the US for some reason, you can: 1) Apply for Australia or Canada PR and you'll get maximum points for education and this will balance out other factors like age or work experience which is not the case if you apply with Masters or Bachelors degree. 2) Still even if your points are not much but obviously above the threshold, still chances of getting picked up are more or extremely high with PhDs as these countries are facing shortages in universities, colleges and even industries which require tenure tracked positions and PhD is a mandate 3) UAE has introduced their ' Golden Visa' something akin to GC or PR and PhD holder is one criteria amongst others, so with PhD, one can get the coveted golden visa. One can earn even more than US / Canada or UK international UAE with PhD as there is no Income tax.

Also, under the new W-Visa (America COMPETES Act), a PhD holder will no longer be subject to the country cap with regards to the Green Card. You don't even need a lot of research papers published. All you need is a PhD! How crazy is that!?!

It takes 6 to 10 years for international students to graduate from Phd in USA. There is no fixed set of requirements to graduate that is common to all Phd programs. Its up to the department and school when and if to let you graduate. Most programs see international students as slaves or very cheap labour, so international students get abused and often dont get to graduate before 6 years.

Let me tell advantages of masters over PHD for who are all wondering, 1) masters student can also file for EB 1A (Einstein visa) it is possible many have done it. 2) 5 years of PhD u get more knowledge, but money u will hardly get any, young days we can't enjoy. Let's say me and my friend finished masters. My friend goes for a PhD for 5 years. After five years I will be a staff engineer earning more than him and saved more than him. But after PhD he will get entry level or maximum rare cases senior level job. But PHD is always premium guys, money doesn't matter. If u guys want to do research or want to become professor PhD is the only way.

Thanks professor for creating this video. I am wondering If I can get your thoughts on this: - I have been working for over 10 years and have been feeling stuck in my career. - During coffee chats, I was suggested to consider MBA or MS Computer Science (I don't have an undergrad in CS but saw there are some bridging programs out there for those who don't). Wondering what do you think about MBA vs MS Computer Science? - I think MS is usually for those who usually have around 2 years of work experience but may not be appropriate for those with more work experience. - I think with MS CS one tends to become a software developer writing code. Pays well but just writing code. - With MBA people usually tend to go into 3 buckets (consulting, IB/financial services & tech). My perception is that the work life balance of consulting/financial services isn't great and also getting there in mid 30s is tough but tech (product management seems to be the most popular role in tech post MBA, though the current tech economy isn't great with layoffs) seems more open with better work life balance. Would love to get your thoughts.

both are very different. How can one consider and compare between the two options. I would agree that MS is for a relatively young person. But it depends. Where do you live? Do you want to move to US/Canada? I think an MS in Information Systems give you the best of both the worlds, MBA and MS

@@DesiAmericanProfessor no thats not what I meant. Totally value your content and efforts but as lot of people from India consume your videos so they should know the other side of it too. For example if they choose a PhD over a masters they should be ready to just accept less than minimum wage for 5-7 years that has a direct impact on family life - finding a partner and planning babies (not cheap in the US). And finding a partner if you are single as PhDs are known for being not so social (Big Bang theory ....) other things you mentioned US vs Canada/Australia job market vs settling down. Look up Australian unemployemnt rates and the cost benefit ratio for these countries. Worst would be someone doing a PhD for all the wrong reasons and finding themselves alone in a US university with a Citizenship and house in a small town suburb :). Love you prof :)

My own uncle started his masters and then went for his PhD while he already had kids. When I decided to pursue PhD I was 25 and some said you will be 30 by the time you finish. Do you still want to be a student for that long? Well I still did it anyway and guess what? I had a PhD by 31. In my PhD program we all had proper social life.
