I beleive the same thing! correct me if im wrong, but i heard that there wasnt any spellcard system in the pc-98 era so the battles were more brutal (like when shinki destroyed the whole city of makai)... You dont have the comedy and the brutality in the windows cannon sadly

Tenshit the masochist celestial Yes, I heard that too. sad thing I can't play that era... my laptop is way too weak and old for emulators... But yeah, I heard smth about that. The spell car system was brought in Gensokyo right before the Scarlet Devil incident. there are some theories that it was a pact between the youkai not to kill and eat any humans from the human village. In return, Yukari would gap bad humans from this one for the youkai to eat. This is probably cus the youkai need the humans to exist, and the humans need youkai to exist too. The last one was explained in a Manga called Forbidden Scrollery, I think it was Marisa that told Kosuzu about it.

Wait i didnt even knew Yukari would gap bad people into youkai... but who are the bad humans?!? Like Kosuzu or Sumireko? I dont get it -_- btw dont youkai live because humans believe on them? Like the gods, if no one believes on them (the youkai) they disappear (and thats the reason they came in gensokyo in the first place) so why do they need to eat humans? O wait, now that i think of it they do that to get scary for the humans and survive right? Oh and the latest chapter of forbidden scrollery shows us that Kozusu was possessed by Yukari or something and she had a youkai aura, maybe thats what you meant by saying that Yukari gaps bad people idfk

Tenshit the masochist celestial It was just a theory but the people Yukari gaps, are people from our world. The youkai still think that its their duty to eat humans(this is what Rumia believed). But indeed, if they ate all the people in the human village, there will be no one to fear them and they'd disappear. Yukari simply wants everything to be balanced and as the gatekeeper of the boundary between the world of Gensokyo and our world, she came with that solution. In the end, idk how much of it could be true since its all just a theory. But maybe it'll all become clear some day. I hope... And maybe we get to answer more questions about the pc-98 era which seemed to have disappeared as if it never existed, yet we still encounter some youkai from there like Yuuka and Alice.

Maybe it does make sense that Yukari gaps people into Gensokyo for that reason but not necessarily bad people, but only the forgotten ones because you know, everything forgotten goes into Gensokyo.... about the pc98 era being missing i have heard two theories: the first one is that everything that happened in the pc98 era was just Reimu's and Marisa's imagination since, you know, they were just kids at the time and had a wild imagination... and the second theory is that there was a war between Yukari and the pc98 characters (because they didnt agree in the spellcard rules, i dont remember....) and that the war was so intense that most of the land was destroyed. Thats why there are only 4 survivors, Reimu and Marisa were on Yukari's side and they were protected by her, Yuuka was strong enough and made it but her mansion and servants were destroyed and because of that she became more calmer(?) and didnt mock as much as she used to, and finally, Alice just had the grimoire and used the "ultimate magic" ... wow thats too deep and dark man

ZUN's stated in an interview coupled with Silent Sinner in Blue that Watatsuki no Yorihime will never appear in the games because you're supposed to be able to win in video games and you wouldn't be able to win against her. He's never said what the strongest being in the universe is (it's pretty obvious from texts like Cage in Lunatic Runagate that it'd be a major deity like Amaterasu or Tsukiyomi, not a character who actually appears in-game.)

Bogu dzięki żem Popciosław 1. Two is not a quantity greater than ("over") two. 2. Nobody dies in Touhou, except the ones who are already dead. 3. If the number of times the character appears as a boss is the gauge of their power (which it isn't,) then there are a whole bunch of other characters who qualify as stronger under your logic. Using real logic, the only possibilities are Watatsuki no Yorihime or the Dragon God of Gensokyo (en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Perfect_Memento_in_Strict_Sense/Dragon) Incidentally, the Dragon God Ryujin is also known as "Watatsumi," and has two daughters.

I absolutely can't get over how epic it is when the music syncs perfectly as she unleashes her ultimate attack here in 2:10

(Usual disclaimer : this comment is from 2013. I was 13 when writing it. It was written before translations for PC-98 games were available. It is full of completely wrong information and teenage cringe. Proceed at your own risk.) This truly is a dramatic battle. Shinki burnt her entire world down. Her power dominated her mind. She couldn't control herself anymore. She realized what she was doing, but there was no way to stop. Her true nature - the demon goddess she was - got back to the surface. She thought of every single one of her demon creations. Especially Yumeko, her biggest pride. She thought of them all as the demonic power unleashed its destructive force in vain, at the pathetic creature in front of her. Her whole creation, her whole world, she destroyed it. And when she finally regained control over herself, she didn't rebuild it. No, she ended the battle with that last attack, in the middle of the burning Pandemonium. Her daugther...she knew what her daugther had done. There was no purpose in rebuilding Makai. She didn't. And then, she vanished away, forever ashamed of what she had done.

Headcanon: When Shinki used Devil's Recitation, she destroyed not only Makai, but the ENTIRE PC-98 canon. All of the PC-98 characters except Reimu, Marisa, Alice, and Yuuka were wiped from the timeline. To the other characters, it was as if they had never existed. And the battle against Lolice takes place in the void of the destroyed timeline, that is, before the Windows canon came along and rebuilt it. ...Quick, someone make a PC-98 version of Concealed: The Conclusion with this concept.

Well, you know, then why does Makai exist? I'm fairly sure she just destroyed the capital, which she could easily just poof back into existence.

One of my favorite final bosses of all time. Everything about this fight as perfect. The scenario (fighting the goddess of all demons and shit), the imagery (let it all burn), the fight itself was snugly in the middle of heart-pounding challenge without being ball-breaking, and this song. Not only is the song itself amazing, but I'm still floored by how the song was actually kind of timed to the battle, as each part of the song lasted just long enough for one of Shinki's phases, so while the fight built itself to a climax, so did the song. That's friggin' genius. And of course this gains one additional bonus point in retrospect for being the last battle of the entire PC-98 series, a true finale to the end of an era (not counting the extra stage, of course).

fun fact: the cheeto lazer phase does a cirno due to how the cheeto's turning radius is. you can just stay right above her and nothing can hit you, and the phase will pass eventually even if you don't shoot her since, iirc, phases in MS do indeed have a long (and invisible) timer

There's also a rare glitch with the Cheeto lasers. If you end Stage 4 with one of those bullets on the screen, you'll be killed by an invisible one in the final stage before the fight.

When you're going to battle a god but you don't know how to beat her

Scary beginning, motivational, and sounds ominous as heck. It’s actually pretty good, not going to lie, I guess. 0:25 reminds me of a Touhou 1 or 2 track that I can’t remember (I think the track that i was thinking about is Touhou 1 music #04, lol)

Shinki never burned her world down. When you beat her she concedes defeat and promises that she will do something about the tourist agency. Reimu goes back to her shrine and demons are still coming out of the portal or whatever it is. If anyone can find canon (NOT fanon) information about Shinki destroying everything, feel free to link me to it.

Chances are, if she even did cause ANY destruction, it was only the location the battle took place, rather than the entire dimension of Makai.

Fanon always exaggerates to extreme degrees.

While I do love the new touhou games. There are just something unique about fighting Shinki at collapsing Makai while this theme blares on. Gives me a mix of nostalgia, sadness, and hope. I think that is because PC-98 Touhou have a much more serious tone compared to Windows-era.

2:03 Maple Wise... ;-; It's like she's trying to remember the good times but can't beat the rage.

lasers and balls. oh and more lasers... and lots of bullet lets not forget about those. imo shinki is best 2hu

Her design is impeccable. Eye-catching, beautiful, and yet commanding attention and respect. Just LOOKS like she should be the final boss. You know that fighting this girl will be anything but short or straightforward. And then you hear what she's capable of doing and you wonder what you've gotten poor Reimu into.

"Well, well, well... you've come far. Not only did you beat my dear Alice and my right-hand lady Yumeko... you've slaughtered every single one of my other children, that makes me mad. Le me fighting against Shinki:- her theme is good *hits the **1:14** mark of the theme* ..... I'VE HEARD THAT PART BEFORE---- after defeating her I decided to search for the song that has the same rhythem on that part and I found it. Its Parallel Universe composed by VK

*[God of Makai]* SHINKI Shinki (神綺) is the creator of Makai, a world of demons whose entrance is located near the Hakurei Shrine in a mountain cave. She describes herself as a god. During the events of Mystic Square, Shinki allowed a Makai tourist agency to organize trips to Gensokyo for Makai demons, which caused problems for Gensokyo's residents. Reimu Hakurei, Marisa Kirisame, Mima and Yuuka Kazami traveled to Makai to put an end to this intrusion, defeating a number of Makai natives and Shinki herself. Actually this is false. Alice does not have a pure heart not even close. The Grimoire is an object that has no known origin, and it could have been created by Shinki herself. Of course I'm not saying your headcanon is kinda bad, but no that is exactly what I am saying.

Sounds really melancholic and powerful to me. This shows an another way to perceive Mystic Square and Shinki's viewpoint.

For me the song is full of feelings like shinki is angry and sad and kinda want revenge for the rampage the player has made in her wold

I've thought of this crazy theory. What if Makai is Gensokyo in the far future? Bear with me here, the resemblances are uncanny. Byakuren's backstory lines up closely with what seems to be happening to Reimu, and although they're different religions Reimu might convert if something bad happened. Shinki resembles a more grown-up Remilia, complete with maid. Yuki and Mai closely resembling Marisa and Cirno is widely noted, and although the latter two hate each other the former are at best tsundere. Alice is widely accepted to be a former human, but so is Yuyuko, and their powers are similar. And Yuuka could be her own past self, not inconceivable for her.

+alienspacebat 1. Gensokyo and Makai coexist 2. Alice remembers Reimu in PCB. So does Yuuka, implying MS took place in the past 3. Reimu and Byakuren are almost polar opposites. Reimu is a professional youkai exterinator, and shows no sympathy to anything remotely related to youkai (read Forbidden Scrollery). Also, they coexist in the same time frame, which would create a recursive paradox in the future 4. Alice and Yuyuko's powers aren't similar in the slightest. Alice = Magic. Yuyuko = Invoking death, whatever that means. And I don't know how Yuyuko fits into your theory 5. Even if Remi and Shinki look a bit similar, their abilities set them completely apart. Remi is nowhere *near* being able to create (or destroy) her own dimension parallel to Gensokyo.

Makai is not hell, that's Jigoku (the second route of Touhou1). If you go to Makai, you will get instantly eaten by a demon XD Responder

WOW You have dreams too?! Me too except everyone is some kind of character from the original games, sometimes follows the gaame plots but with our own humourous twist!

ZUN made the game and the characters by himself with little help from fellow students. He just used the "Amusment Makers" name in his works like everyone did in his small group of peers.

Power metal as hell, from 1:14 onwards until the end of the loop...

I like this strong theme She has a shocking resemblance to *Marisha* a cleric from Mystery of the emblem. Like Marisha straight up looks like Shinki but young. Marisha happens to have a friend named Yuliya who also kind of looks like Alice. Funnily enough Yumeko looke like Lachesis who's daughter Nanna kinda looks like Alice. Zun is def a fire emblem fan.

I never played the PC-98 era of Touhou. But I can't stop feeling the story behind this part of the game (I never played). The fact that the she destroyed Makai just to get Reimu is just *ugh* I don't know anymore. I just wish Shinki would make an appearance (even though I don't know her character that much).

Reminder Mima and *Yuuka* were also there, and went on quite a rampage. The infamous 'Genocide is just a game~* quote came from Yuuka in this game after all. It's entirely possible that background is Yuuka's doing

Infinite Being... That reminds me of Father Rodin, the EX-boss from Bayonetta, who is known as the Infinite One, and was the most powerful of all the heavenly beings next to Jubileus before being cast out and forgotten, spawning a hypothesis that he is actually Lucifer himself. Connection?

Her fight would be a good final boss in a Sonic game (not the crap of today) in my opinion. For destroying her world because of so much power used would be awesome. Also, her fight was so intense that maybe it's the reason of the Spellcard rule existence.
