It takes it from a sort of happy jaunt to what effectively feels like something youd say to a terminally Ill person. Seriously go back and read the first few lines with that in mind and you'll get veeeeeery different feels from this song. To me it feels like someone trying to cheer up their terminally Ill friend on that once in a while good day

So, I'm a child of the 70's. I grew up listening to ELO, Mr. Blue Sky one of my favorites. I clicked into this sure that I knew what the song was all about. Apparently I was wrong. I listened to about two minutes, had to click over to ELO singing to be sure it was the same song, then clicked back to listen to it all, then again and again. Wow, what a musical and visual feast. Postmodern makes a great song come across new and fresh.

Actually, I've seen a few other Postmodern Jukebox covers, and I'd say this one is the best at rethinking the source material. It's SO different from ELO's version, and I think better. The others sound a lot like - though not the same as - their originals. This one just ... it's awesome, and yes, so much of it is due to the band, the setting, the performers, and the arrangement, but without Allison Young it just wouldn't work. She's amazing.

The ELO original is the last song I played on my Radio Shack (Technics) turntable with Optimus 1-B RS speakers the last day of summer before my senior year in college. It capped off a summer of transition in which I cut my long hair, shaved a Lasse Viren beard, got contact lenses and became a new young man determined to fulfill my potential as a runner at Luther College. This song's optimism with a touch of sadness was the perfect way to wrap up August and go get it the best I could. A week later I'd fallen in love at first sight with a green-eyed beauty who I met at an RA retreat. I rose from seventh man on the cross country team to second man and helped lead the team to an NCAA D3 second place at nationals. That love affair carried me through 800 miles of training, lasted another year or so and imploded after we tried to keep a long distance relationship going. But the innocence of this song sticks with me to this day, and this version captures an older man's appreciation for an earlier time. Nicely done.

I hope to god they never touch Smells Like Teen Spirit. That song is cursed; no one can even make a passable cover of the song let alone reimagine it in some way. This however I must admit I quite like. I would certainly categorize it as one of their better works. I wouldn't say it's at the level of Creep, or Thriller, but it's very good.

When a song has enough substance to be reinterpreted at this level you know Jeff Lynne wrote a great one. Scott Bradlee's arrangement is superb. It could be the first act closing number in a Broadway musical. For me, the setting and attire for the performers lends a comfortable formality to a shared moment celebrating the return of blue skies after a long period of rain. The instrumental performances are excellent and create a structure, texture, and space so lush that a singer of Allison Young's talent can take us on a walk through its verdant landscape as a fond companion and guide. Truly a great performance. Thank you.

The part where she sings 'Mr. Blue Sky please tell us why you had to go away for so long. Where did we go wrong?' reminds me of a post-apocalyptic era where a nuclear fallout covered the earth's atmosphere in dense clouds and the sky was no longer visible and people can only glimpse it very rarely. And when they ask 'Where did we go wrong?' Its rhetorical and satirical at the same time, as if they were begging for forgiveness for what they've done.

It is a most beautiful song! I didn't know this song before. All is important and actually now. Mr. Blue Sky is a symbol of peace of all the world. I want to see Mr. Blue Sky every day. Thank you.

This version makes me feel free and magical. Feelings I only have once in a blue moon. It made me cry.

While I’m not crazy about a slow version of this song, I think I’ve fallen in love with this girl

I can't believe I JUST discovered this phenomenon! I love, through Scott Bradlee's translations, that the lyrics of songs we all know and love seem to take on a whole new meaning and life. I really adore this version of this song. I am SUCH a fan!
