I don't imagine that a borderline underaged chorus girl *Christine* who is a lyric soprano/possible coloratura would have much "depth" either. I think she's perfectly appropriate for the role. Not everyone can belt an E6 like Sarah Brightman, if that's what you call "depth".

@@joshdobs9772 Christine is 21, so not underage, and the necessity of the performer being the same level or representation of the character ('depth' wise) would be applicable to the movie, but not in musical theatre. On stage you give the impression she's a 'chorus girl who is a lyric soprano/possible coloratura' but the performer themselves need to be top of the range - Scherzinger is (currently) not. I think the difference between Brightman and Scherzinger is that, although both classically trained, Brightman had operatic coaching just prior to (and during) her original run as Christine. Whereas Scherzinger would've had her coaching early on in education, and then been put into the pop star box (which Brightman also did, but had the benefit of the later coaching). But this was just a one off performance, I'm sure if Scherzinger received operatic-centric coaching she could easily land a theatre role somewhere.

I don't think people realize just how hard it is to sing this song properly. I've seen many versions of this song & have to say MANY kudos to Nicole S for doing such a fantastic job with this song, I agree with others, she's an underrated gem.

However, while her voice is perfect, there is something about her that she is just not right to play ingénu Christine. Nicole is beautiful but has never looked particularly innocent. In the musical these large men are meant to be a threat to the innocent Christine, but with Nicole she could hold her own with any of those blokes, probably slap them all silly.

@@lisastenzel5713 I don't think she is underrated at all, she has received plenty of plaudits for her singing...her problem was the "dressing up" of the Pussycat dolls and her being the frontwoman for the sleaze look they chose to fit the pop mold. Makes it harder for her to be taken seriously as a soloist afterwards in any other genre but she has done fine. Another example of this is Lady Gaga, who also is a great singer when she chooses great material to sing :D

squeek or scratching is also a hard technique in singing and combination with whistle sing is phenominal. only morisette amon perfected this technique but nicole performed also excellent in another technique.every singer make a technique to be unique from other singers.there's no comparison between morisette&nicole.both have philippine blood.morisette has own technique different from nicole but both are excellent singers.

Even harder when you know that E6 note is so hard that most singers don't do it regularly, but mime a pre-recorded E6 because of the strain it puts on the voice. e.g. the footage of Sierra Boggess hitting E6 at the Brit Awards 2012 is a mimed "here's one that I prepared earlier"

Perhaps that explains why her low range was so weak.

That voice of hers is just out of this world. Near the end her voice is up in the stratosphere. She hits notes that could shatter glass. I’ve watched this at least 50 times and each time cold chills and goose bumps. The woman is amazing, and so highly underrated as a singer.

I'm so mad that the industry just put her in the box of "the hot girl", and not exposed how truly talented she is

This gave me goose bumps. I know she had a hell of a voice but I never thought anyone but Sarah Brightman could pull this off and for a non opera singer like Nicole to do it is truly fantastic. We'll done Nicole....

dozens of actresses have pulled this off better than sarah brightman imo - her voice was always very thin, and declined quickly - but nicole def does very well to switch to this kind of style so easily after so long singing pop.

Sarah Brightman would have to mimic "The Good Place" and say - not an opera singer...plenty of people have pulled it off. Floor Jansen did it with a real Phantom for a tv show and she is a heavy metal singer, albeit probably one of the great female voices of our time...I see you K C ;)

Sarah B's background was musical theatre. She wanted to become an opera singer. I don't think her range has the depth and range of Nicole's. Very different singers. I have heard Nicole singing other more operatic material, and she is amazing.

I have a new found respect for Nicole. She may not be opera singer but her voice is amazing. Only needs just a bit of operatic training and dang. She has a powerful voice.

Apparently “The PussyCat Dolls” were “The Nicole Scherzinger Show staring Nicole Scherzinger.” She wrote the music, the choreography, she went out and hired the other members, etc… and then when they started getting big, the other members started getting inflated egos. But that’s just what I’ve heard from around the internet. I have no sources.

I didn’t realise she has such a beautiful voice,she is amazing.

OMG!! That ending! WOOOOOWWW!!! Her powerful voice! Was always a big fan of her, but never heard her do opera music like that. I am mind blown.

Wow, I had no idea Nicole did this. She did a great job. Unbelievable talent she has. All the past Phantoms are just glorious in their own right. The songs for Phantom of the Opera are very hard to sing. They all did a magnificent job!

Never been much for opera, but this piece was awesome. I've got to see the Phantom now. The rock vibe with the gothic music.......was anticipating the high note. Nicole crushed it!

Oh yeah, she can go into the whistle register. People are surprised about that because she never did so on her solo albums or during her Pussycat Dolls days. However, during her days as a member of Eden's Crush, she made more use of that part of her voice. She used whistle notes in the Eden's Crush songs "Let Me Know", "I Wanna Be Free", and "1000 Words (Mil Palabras)".

it's all in the original key! the first verse is that low in order to maximise the drama of the high E6 at the end - the song covers most of a normal soprano's range.

I honestly cant believe how beautifully Nicole sings....from the first moment she opened her mouth i was truly captivated...i will never forget this performance for all my days....well done everyone ❤ you have my upmost Respect 🥰🥰🥰

I just came across this video about a month ago, and I am now obsessed with it. Nicole Scherzinger's voice is incredible, but I'm really enthralled with the men and their voices, especially Simon Bowman. The men aren't just singing; they are performing the role of the Phantom, which is why the atmosphere seems tense.

Nicole is great, but those men! Love them.
