Our neighbors barn went up in flames from wet hay. The amount of heat a wet bail will put out is staggering. Hot enough to cause spontaneous combustion. Smart move, letting them air out and cool/dry down. They say it makes a peculiar smell before POOF! it's ablaze. If your hay smells funny, it's too wet. I don't know for sure but I believe it's 20% moisture or above is danger zone.

Your weather is superb! Up in a small mountain range at 5300' in Arizona we get to 32F at night but it's sunny and pleasant during the day. It only gets to about 60F this time of year. I'm guessing but it's probably a 1/2 hour drive to the desert floor which about 10-20 degrees hotter. There are farms here but scattered here in the southeast Arizona in this area. They obviously need irrigation and I think they use mostly well water.

For your post spinning issue, could you drill a bolt hole through the pipe and put it in there diagonally? That way the bolt goes across the square in the floor and more or less locks it into place. Just another thought, not sure if it would be strong enough.

I would not just put a square piece of metal on the pole to stop it from twisting. I think it will be too shallow and it will simply just "jump the curb". A better option would be to weld some long, but not wide plates on the side of the pole and then cut slots for it in the concrete to stop it from spinning. It's basically all about surface area in my opinion, and vertical plates will do a better job of it. The reason I said "not wide plates" are so that you can still use the same plate to stop bedding from filling the gap and the pipehole. They just need to be deeper than if you were to use wider plates.
@timothymbonham4453

Yes, rather than a metal plate, weld a 2-foot square metal rod to the pole, such that it fits into a corner of the square hole. Maybe 2 of them, on diagonal corners. the square rod will be solider in the hole, and being welded up and down the pole, will be very secure.

Great idea of staking the bales loosely so they can breathe, you don't want any fires. Good thing you took the bales outside to let them go through a sweat like the one you saw steaming, you could of had problems. We had 2 flat racks like you were using to gather round bales, we made them out of 2x6 so we could put 14 bales on a load at a time and with both racks we hauled 28 bales and 1 for the skidloader at a time. Your barn extension looks great and is working well for you by the looks of things. How much do your bull calves bring at the sale barn, last time I was at the sale barn the ones going through were selling for up to 200.00 dollars for day to couple days old that's ridiculous as I used to buy them for 50 dollars for day old up to 2 weeks old. But I had a friend who owned the sale barn and he always got me some good deals on baby calves and I would bring them home and put in my domes,I only lost 1 out of hundreds I bought from him. I love the barn you built last year I wish I was still raising calves as it is my blood and it was kinda a family project as I could depend on the kids doing chores at night if I was still working on the other farms. Can't wait to see your daughter helping you out or riding in the tractor with you.

Keep us updated on those wagyu calves. I’d like to see how they turn out.
Can you tell us how your neighbor feeds those calves out an time frame
TELL US NOW.. please. i said 'please' so you have to do it lol. on a less silly note, Thanks for another vid. I know it's just mundane day-to-day stuff, to you. Many of the rest of the planet live in cities and dont know. their will always be somebody that does something better than you. whether brain surgeon or street sweeper or anything. It doesn't have to be the top most interesting stuff ever by your standards. Just your farm/ your cows/ your machines /your stuff... whatever. thats what there is and thats the channel. ands thats what people love. you can't publish enough content to satiate everyone. Thanks for keeping trying though. never stop :-)
It's snowing in Iowa

Hiya, Great video, I've been binge watching and loving every one. One thing, do you not ship to England in the UK, it was impossible to change destination from USA to UK? Stay safe, Steve...

It's interesting but we only have 85 acres of land at the home farm. Would have to downsize majorly.

@@10thgenerationdairyman61 Oh, as far as I understand you can do it with very little land, for example the land where you are already grazing your livestock, or am I missing something?
Good luck with Senator Fetterman. I sure hope he doesn't make life hard on you with new industry measures. I'm sure I am just as stunned as you are. Will be praying.
