10th Generation Dairyman

My name is Eric, I'm a dairy farmer in southern Pennsylvania. We have a 200 cow milking herd along with 150 or so young stock. We farm 250 acres where we grow all our forage and a little grain. I'm making videos of what I do day to day. I hope you enjoy.

I’m very impressed by the connection you have to neighbors. It’s so important to look out for our neighbors, and is really a biblical command to watch out for them and certainly care for the widows and orphans…. But your farming coop efforts isn’t just smart, it’s a blessing for all and I love to hear those stories. Maybe you could talk more, in the future episodes, of how you share with neighbors and rent/borrow/loan tools. Love it Eric. One of my favorite channels, and it’s because of who you are Eric. Blessings.

I didn't know about the slug bait or how it was applied. I'm having issues with moles and groundhogs, I know how to take care of those critters. You got a good deal on the tires and rims. Thanks for sharing, I hope all goes well, have a nice evening!😀

slugs. am having major infestation this year also 😠. thin Diatomaceous earth scattering helped one area where it was spread last year (strawberry's) but seems its gotta be repeated season after season. Slime barsts dont like the super- sharp edges that cant be slimed over. to humans and animals/ its safe and included in feed for horses or any worm type parasite sufferers ... try it @10thgenerationdairyman61

Silos look good, Sorry to hear about the slugs. I think potash was a good choice, as nitrogen is either prescription, and or you don't want to burn crop. Now i know what you can put on the field for a farm. Back in the garden I would put plastic frogs with a top, and in the chamber i put beer, it was great until you clened it up. PBR or Pathmark no frills, Cheap as possible. I'll drink a cold one for your farm for a good crop, cheers!

Eric, I am a Philadelphia suburbanite. I am so often blown away by the nuances you MUST attend to be a successful dairyman/farmer. I had no idea what you must attend to ( from grubs to silos to cost of what seems to me like every tidbit of what you touch every day, etc., etc., etc. ) to keep your head above your expenses and labor. Seems to me that I would have to be on fire to move and think fast enough to do all you do. You (and your dad )are awesome. So good to know people like you are caring for the soil and grass and critters we depend on for our existence. God bless people of the earth.

Time to do some ground hog hunting. Sad to see your hard work messed up so soon in the year. The new silos look really impressive. The construction process is really interesting. Hoping the slug bait works well. Amazing how much damage the slugs have done. The investment in the bait might pay for itself by saving the plants. hopefully the bodies of the slugs will add some fertility to the soil. The new tires and rims make the skid look sharp. Thanks for another great video Eric. I always look forward to them and enjoy them.

Awesome video Eric. Hey I've heard you can cook and eat those slugs. Hmmmmmm. Guess you could do a garlic alfredo sauce with them 🤣. It's impressive as to the amount of knowledge farmers have. Not only are they knowledgeable on crops, but livestock and equipment as well. Then most have an education to further their knowledge on other things as well. 🚜🚜🚜

Tweels are a lot more expensive, but I wonder if the downtime saved from flats, etc would be worth it. Only the hubs are steel and supposedly they work in manure that freezes on the vanes.
